Mana

Mana is the measure of magical power available to a caster such as a wizard, magician, or paladin and governs how many spells may be cast in succession before rest is needed to continue. The total mana pool is determined by an algorithm using either the character's Intelligence or Wisdom, depending upon the character class. Each spell that the caster uses consumes mana. Mana replenishes naturally at a very slow rate, enhanced by meditating, certain Alternate Advancement bonuses, through the use of mana regeneration spells such as clarity, and from item bonuses provided by the Flowing Thought modifier. Regeneration is capped at 30 mana regen from spells and 20 mana regen (40 when out of combat) from items. Some spells, such as the Necromancer Conversions line, ignore the regen cap.

Classes that use Intelligence to determine their mana pool:

Classes that use Wisdom to determine their mana pool:

Monks, Warriors and Rogues have no mana pool and thus gain no mana benefit from either Intelligence or Wisdom.

The formulae for the base mana pool are independent of character class and depend on character level and the applicable statistic value.

The base mana pool value is further modified by mana gained from direct item bonuses and other sources.

The above demonstrate that the benefit of additional points of Intelligence or Wisdom is significantly reduced once the appropriate statistic rises above 200, which may increase the appeal of direct mana bonuses on equipment once this soft cap is reached. The table below illustrates the actual mana bonus per statistic point gained at various levels:

Level Mana/Point Pre-200 Mana/Point Post-200
1 0.200 0.078
5 1.000 0.388
10 2.000 0.776
20 4.000 1.553
30 6.000 2.329
40 8.000 3.106
50 10.000 3.882
60 12.000 4.659
65 13.000 5.047
