Mining
Mining is the process of retrieving ore from the ground. Currently, most places known for mining are inside dungeons or mountainous regions. This skill is not available at trainers. To use, have a pick with mining ability equipped. Find a fresh ore vein and right-click your pick to start digging. Mining Picks are available at Smithing vendors for new prospectors. Deepmetal ore can only be mined using both the pick and the satchel
Mining veins are areas where the skill works. They are good usually for about 5 attempts (+/-) before becoming exhausted. The refresh time is around 30 minutes.
Items that assist with mining
One pick and the satchel stack even if it appears as though they don't on your skill sheet. Your skill checks will include both items boosts.
Anti-Macro Bot
Occasionally, you will get a message to pop up in a color (Red, Blue, White) that will prompt you to enter a statement in order to continue mining. The following text will appear on your screen:
"!**You are being checked for unattended macroing. Enter the COLOR of this message into #passcolor within 3 minutes. Possible colors are RED BLUE WHITE.**! !**Syntax: #passcolor COLOR**!"
At this time, if the proper statement is entered, you will be blessed (unless already under the effects of a mining blessing).
Types of blessings are:
- "You do not feel blessed this time" - Nothing happens
- "You feel blessed with luck" - You will harvest ores more frequently while under the effects of this blessing.
- "You feel blessed with a very agile mind" - Your mining skill will increase significantly faster while under the effects of this blessing.
- "You feel blessed with unusual talent" - Not sure, possible temporary skill increase, allowing the harvesting of more advanced ores?
Blessings last approximately 3-5 minutes.
Raising the Skill & Experience Gains
Every skill-up grants you 4% of a level worth of experience, regardless of your level.
How to mine
Mining Picks are available at smithing vendors for new prospectors. To mine, equip a Mining Pick, find a fresh ore vein, and right-click your pick to start digging. Wait until you get some sort of a result message before using your pick again. You will either mine some ore, get some loose rocks, or ruin the ore you were trying to mine. As your skill increases, you will get less ruin messages and gain the ability to mine more advanced ores. Mining veins are areas where the skill works. They are good usually for about around 5 attempts before becoming exhausted. The refresh time has been lowered to respawn every 30 minutes or so. There tend to be many ore veins in each location, so spend some time moving around after getting the "this vein is exhausted" message.
Required skill | Ore type |
---|---|
0 | Iron Ore |
53 | Copper Ore |
80 | Silver Ore |
120 | Dalium Ore |
150 | Mithril Ore |
220 | Obsidian Ore |
235 | Ghostmetal Ore |
235 | Warpmetal Ore |
258* | Deepmetal Ore |
Helpful hints:
- Mark mining spots on your map if you easily forget their locations.
- Mining spots are often concentrated together. If they haven't been touched in a while, you can retrieve tons of ore and earn easy experience/skill in a relatively short amount of time.
- Save the loose rocks you dig up and use a forge to turn them into Minerals - 10 Loose Rocks make 1 Minerals. Then combine 6 Minerals in a Forge to make a Mineral Dust (you can also buy from smithing merchants), a component of Temperings. You can set it aside for future crafting or sell it to a vendor for a bit of platinum.
- Ore is heavy, but a stack of 60 ores weighs the same as a single ore.
- If you don't like repetitive right-clicking, just click, hold, and drag your primary slot into your hotkeys.
- Be nice to your fellow miners, work out areas you can mine without mining on top of each other. If not, you'll get the "Someone stole the ore you were working on" message.
