Ylek
From SoDWiki
Jump to navigationJump to searchTwo forlorn refugees in the camp in the dreadlands have asked me to seek out any sign of their son and return to them with the news, good or bad, of his well-being. They sold Ylek into the claw when he was much younger. Perhaps I will find more about him at the Citadel.

Find A Forlorn Refugee (Dreadlands at 425, 8920, 1067 • Refuge camp, Southeast building.) .
You say, 'Hail, A Forlorn Refugee'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'Hello, you must be one of the outsiders?'
You say, 'I heard you were from a village on the outskirts of Ikild.'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'Yes, that's true. We profited much from the trade that passed through on its way to the city, and the protection of the city's militia and Claw garrison.'
- You say, 'What did you do there?'A Forlorn Refugee says, 'My husband worked in the Imperial Ironworks inside the city. I kept a small inn for travelers in our home.'
- You say, 'Why did he leave the forge?'The father speaks up, 'You don't have to talk about me like I'm not here. I'm crippled not dead.' The woman looks down at him and smiles sadly and says, 'You can speak to him through me. He doesn't hear very well these days.'
- [D1]
- You say, 'I'm sorry.'The man sighs and hangs his head. 'I was young and strong once too.
- You say, 'What happened?'The man says, 'I was a foreman in Kaezul's Imperial Armory. We were pouring an iron head for a battering ram when one of the damn goblins fouled a guiderope. I was very nearly killed.' He points with the elbow stump of his arm at a badly scarred and twisted leg. 'As it is, I can walk a little, if it isn't too far. Kaezul has no place in his employ for a useless cripple, and our inn never made much money. We were forced to flee debtors prison, or worse.'
- [D2]
- You say, 'Being a cripple doesn't give you the right to mouth off to me like that! Apologize, old man!'The father says, 'And my injuries don't mean I'll take disrespect from the likes of you!'
- You say, 'I'm sorry, I spoke out of turn.'MISSING TEXT
- You say, 'Then you will die!'
You say, 'What do you know about the Claw?'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'The Claw...They are both respected and feared throughout Ikisith. They are Kaezul's arm, his knife into his citizenry. They cut out the rot and decay that inevitably festers in such a large empire, but they can be...indiscriminate. To be sure, Claw operatives have defended us from the lesser races of Ikisith and stopped plots from outsiders, but there have been massacres of loyal citizens attributed to the Claw as well.'
You say, 'How do you know so much about the Claw?'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'I admist, I have paid...close attention to reports of Claw activities, and scoured their ranks whenever a brigade passes. You see, I have a son in the Claw.'
You say, 'Your son is a Claw?!'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'Yes. The Claw recruiters travel to villages across Ikisith to select the best youths from the Empire to serve Kaezul. It is a great honor to have your child selected, only the best of the best were fit to serve Kaezul. And rewarding as well.'
You say, 'Rewarding? You sold your child to the claw?'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'We didn't understand! We had lived in nothing but peace and prosperity, outside the city limits of Ikild. The truth of things was hidden from our eyes.'
You say, 'And to what do you owe your newfound enlightenment?'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'After the accident, our neighbors helped for a while, until he was healed. But once it was clear the he would never be strong again, never walk without a crutch, the help dried up. I couldn't support the two of us, and it was only a matter of time before we were taken in to debtor's prison, or seen to the mines to work to pay our debts. We were fleeing through the jungle when we came across a dissident camp. They were willing to take us in for whatever I could do around their camp - cooking and foraging to feed us all.'
You say, 'How would you even know your son today, if you saw him so many years later?'
A Forlorn Refugee says, 'A few days after he was born, a traveling shaman came to stay with us. He said he had spent many years in the deepest jungles, communing with the spirits of the earth and his ancestors. I was upstairs with Ylek when he came to our door. My husband came upstairs and told me, he already knew that we had had a son. We brought him down to receive the shaman's blessing and he gave Ylek a talisman, a large tooth, crapped up in some sinew with a loop to fit around his neck. I'm sure that its magic protects him still. If you find any trace of Ylek, please - let us know. Good or bad.'
