Tarhansar has tasked you with protecting an outpost of his followers who live far from the sea.
Walkthrough
You say, ‘Thank you Deep One.’
Projection of the Deep says, ‘ Frankie if you would give your report.’
Frankie Furfoot nods and begins. ‘Well, I went to the desert as you told me, and it didn’t take me long to find some creepy dead things around. Spectres and the like.’
Frankie Furfoot says, ‘But these ruins in the middle of it all… they were weird. So I bent over to take a look, when I heard a deep creepy voice say, ‘A new friend perhaps? No? Kill him then my slaves’. Ya I was freaked out.’
Frankie Furfoot says, ‘And at that instant, I shiver. I swear the temperature dropped to colder than in the water over there! Right in the middle of the desert, my sweat was freezing! That ain’t natural.’
Frankie Furfoot says, ‘At that point, this spectre thing shows up. I can’t hurt it! So I start running. And I keep running until <Player Name> shows up, and figured out how to hurt the damn thing.’
Frankie Furfoot shrugs, ‘That’s about that.’
Projection of the Deep says, ‘Thank you Frankie. As discussed, please proceed to Halas. <Player Name>, speak to me now for your task.’
Frankie Furfoot says, ‘Ok, here I go!’
You say, ‘Hail, Projection of the Deep’
Projection of the Deep says, ‘I fear for my followers <Player Name>. I fear for the clues point to only one possibility. The undead… the cold. It must be Shojar. Why he would care in mortal affairs after so long, I intend to find out, but my followers within his domains are at risk.’
You say, ‘That is why Frankie is going to Halas?’
Projection of the Deep says, ‘Precisely. And why I am sending you to Sundered Mountains. High up on the island, exists a camp of Barbarians. They live in harmony with the area, and many are devout followers of my way. But so high above the sea, I can not protect them. This is Shojar’s domain, and if he wishes to war with me, then attacking them is inevitable. I would have you seek out the Clan Chief, a man named Svartbjorn, and ask to assist in the defense during the upcoming festival of Winter Wolf. The barbarians are a proud people, do not allow their pride to keep you from assisting.’
Clan Chief Svartbjorn
Find Clan Chief Svartbjorn (Sundered Mountains at 1395, -463 • Barbarian outpost, 2nd building on the right)
You say, ‘Hail, Clan Chief Svartbjorn’
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, ‘Hail, Wood Elf! Welcome to the village of the Wolfslayer Clan. I am Svartbjorn, Chieftain. Come to drink? Feast? Or rest your legs between hunting? Perhaps you’d like to try your hand at a yeti hunt, eh?’
You say, ‘I am here on behalf of Tarhansar, to provide assistance to defend your people.’
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, ‘Just because we share a God, doesn’t mean we share anything else <Player Name>. We already have help, and we don’t need more outsiders hanging around during our festival.”
You say, ‘Like it or not I am going to stay.’
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, ‘You are not welcome to, and we will remove you by force if we have to.’
You say, ‘Just give me a chance to prove myself, point me in the right direction to help.’
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, ‘As you wish. To prove yourself an honorary Wolfslayer, there are a number of things that you can do. Joining in a Yeti hunt is one way. Assisting Vida the cook will endear you to the stomachs of the people. Assisting Clansman Wyrulf or Clansman Mangar will make our warriors see you in a better light. And helping the Keeper of the Arts will strengthen the ties between us and the Taldorians, which we certainly appreciate. Take your pick.’
(NOTE: You will need raise your faction with Clan Chief Svartbjorn before progressing)
You say, 'Hail, Clan Chief Svartbjorn'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'You've done enough Enathalaz. The clansfolk love you, it would be my honor to have you attend the festival of the Winter Wolf.'
You say, 'Thank you. But who else did you hire? I recall you saying something about that before...'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'I contacted the City of Mercy, and got one of their top knights to help. Her name is Deirdre Grey, er sorry Lady Grey. And last I saw she was checking security in the mining tunnels in the camp. You should probably go and meet up with, compare notes or whatever. Vyle and I have a festival to plan.'
Deirdre Grey
(NOTE: Deirdre Grey is just to the west next to the mining tunnel entrance and will spawn when you get close)
You say, 'Hail, Deirdre Grey'
Deirdre Grey looks at you with disinterest. 'Can I help you?'
You say, 'I'm with Tarhansar and I'm here to help secure the fort. I've been told to work with you in doing so.'
Deirdre Grey sighs. 'Secure from what exactly. Who would actually want to attack this backwater camp? There is no strategic significance. No riches to be found. Just this tunnel to no where and some boring barbarians.'
You say, 'Tarhansar has had... visions. Something dark is on the way.'
Deirdre Grey frowns. 'Tarhansar is having visions? Well that doesn't bode well. The Lady Althuna respects Tarhansar's opinions, and we've had our share of- never mind... If it's dark magic we are up against we'll need some thing to counter that directly.'
You say, 'Sounds like you might know a bit more than you're letting on.'
Deirdre Grey looks around and whispers, 'The City of Mercy has had it's share of... darkness lately. We hoped it was isolated, but it related directly to the Sundered Mountain at least twice... the Kiera case. I don't want to cause a panic here, but it didn't end pretty.'
You say, 'Sounds serious. Is that all you know?'
Deirdre Grey nods, 'Yah, that's about it. I was only tangentially involved in the Kiera investigation. I know it cost us two knights who we thought we could trust. One of which died right on the beach here. Regardless I think we can ward this place against magic pretty well, and that'll help a lot.'
You say, 'That sounds like a good plan. What do we need?'
Deirdre Grey says, 'Quite a few things unfortunately. A good Rune Ward is not cheap or simple. It's probably best to split up and each gather half the supplies. It'll speed things up. You'll need to find three things, I'll get the other three. You'll need to find a ring of nobility lost. A buckler already warded. And some holy runes of protection.'
Collect the following give them to Deirdre Grey:
- Ring of the Fallen Noble
- Wardetched Buckler
- Holy Runes of Protection
Deirdre Grey says, 'Excellent. These will do nicely! These will take a bit to fashion. Why not go and help prepare for the festival? I'm sure people need some help by this point, it's getting close. People are getting nervous, and having one of us just help them out like nothing bad is on the way will help ease them.'
You gain 30500 experience!!
You receive 50 platinum pieces.
Helping with Festival Preparations
Find Irys the Brewer (Sundered Mountains • 2nd building on the left from the main gate of the Barbarian outpost)
You say, 'Hail, Irys the Brewer'
Irys the Brewer says, 'Mead and Ale! That's what I got. None of them prissy elf-drinks. So what will it be?'
You say, 'Nothing actually, I'm looking to help out with the festival. Need anything?'
Irys the Brewer says, 'Oh, you must be one of those types that goes around helping people hoping for a reward. Well your in luck today. I'm behind in the brewing. Can you brew, or can ya at least find someone who does?'
You say, 'One or the other ya.'
Irys the Brewer says, 'Well then great. You heard of a drink called the Halas Heater? I want five pints of it as a reward for some festivities for the youngins. You'll need a pretty good brewer to make them.'

You say, 'Need any other assistance Vida? I have some free time.'
Vida the Cook says, 'I am so glad you asked that! I am so overwhelmed right now. Everyone wants something! I can't keep up with the orders. Know a thing or two about cooking?'
You say, 'I might...'
Vida the Cook says, 'Well I could use some white bread cakes if so. I'm short by five, and would really appreciate it. They are very simple to make, and go very well with my meat pies!'

You say, 'Hail, Freya the Blacksmith'
Freya the Blacksmith says, 'Yah, yah, I'm a busy woman. Get on with your business.'
You say, 'Busy? Well maybe I can help.'
Freya the Blacksmith says, 'Well I am a bit behind. You good with a hammer, or know someone who is?'
You say, 'I can manage.'
Freya the Blacksmith says, 'I usually make some small toys for the children to play with, but I'm so busy making real weapons of war I just don't have the time. If you could make five copper daggers, well the children would love you for it, and I'd be in your debt.'

Returning to Deirdre Grey
Irys the Brewer says, 'Oh, by the way. Deirdre wanted to see you about something. She didn't say what it was though.'
You say, 'Hail, Deirdre Grey'
Deirdre Grey says, 'Praise Althuna you got my message. I'm nearly done with the Ward, but I also received a report from Althuna concerning the Kiera case. It is very disturbing.'
You say, 'Do tell!'
Deirdre Grey says, 'The investigation was long and arduous, but our agent eventually discovered that the woman, Kiera, was killed, and her soul being used to attack people. The horrifying part was those she killed became like her, and nothing our agent did would keep her dead.'
You say, 'What do you mean it wouldn't die?'
Deirdre Grey says, 'It's exactly like I say. The creatures body would disappear for awhile, but the chill would remain. Soon after she would reform. This is the important part though. They eventually finished her off with the help of the Dawn orcs, by the waterfall on this island.'
You say, 'I see, Tarhansar was right to send me here then.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'I agree. Here is the thing <Player Name>. One of the clan guards noticed something suspicious at the base of the waterfall. Knowing what we do, it's obvious we need to investigate. Can you handle this one while I finish the Wards?'
You say, 'Very well. I'll return as soon as I can.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'Right, be careful.'
Go To the waterfall where you fought Greyback and along the way you will be attacked by A hostile shadow:
Once the shadows have been defeated return to Deirdre Grey
You say, 'Hail, Deirdre Grey'
Deirdre Grey says, 'I can tell by the look on your face, something happened. How bad was it <Player Name>?'
You say, 'Five shadow creatures. I don't think we're out of this yet.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'We are going to need reinforcements <Player Name>. I'll rally the rose squadron. Perhaps you should see if Tarhansar can provide some reinforcements as well. Get help, then get back here. I don't think we have long before these people fall under attack.'
Frankie Needs Help! Again...
Return to Projection of the Deep (Caverns of the Deep One at -1210, 20, 3 • Near Zone In)
You say, 'Hail, Projection of the Deep'
Projection of the Deep glows for a moment. '<Player Name>, you seem distraught. Tell me what has occurred in the Sundered Mountains.
You say, '[Talk about Deirdre Grey and the events in Sundered]'
Projection of the Deep says, 'You as well? This is most grave. You were right to return and seek help. I am surprised an agent of Althuna was there. My ambassadors have not yet heard word from her. If she was concerned enough to send an agent, one would think she would find time to speak to me.'
You say, 'As well? What do you mean by that?'
Projection of the Deep says, 'My agents, all across Dalaya have been attacked by the same Shadowy creatures you described. Most were not powerful enough to stop them.'
You say, 'So you're telling me no one is available to help these people but me?'
Projection of the Deep says, 'No, but the losses were staggering. Dead, wounded, or fled, only one agent is unaccounted for and could help you.'
You say, 'Oh please, anyone but him!'
Projection of the Deep says, 'Yes, Frankie Furfoot. Last update, he was investigating a hidden tunnel in Everfrost. See if you cannot find him there. I'll continue to try and open communication with Althuna and Shojar.'
Find Frankie Furfoot (unknown zone • unknown loc) in Everfrost in the secret tunnel near Everchill Caverns entrance
You say, 'Hail, Frankie Furfoot'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'Aren't you supposed to be in the Sundered Mountains?'
You say, 'I need help, and it seems you're the only one available.'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'I love you too <Player Name>.'
You say, 'Ugh, it's almost a shame the shadows didn't kill you.'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'Err... what shadows?'
a shadowy knight hisses and cackles.
Kill A shadowy knight without letting Frankie Furfoot die
(Note: You can heal Frankie in this encounter)
Frankie Furfoot says, 'Oh, THAT shadow.'
You say, 'Hail, Frankie Furfoot'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'So that's the shadowy figure I saw poking around Halas. Didn't realize that's all it was though...'
You say, 'I need your help. No one else can do this.'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'Because I'm so tough?'
You say, 'No, because everyone else is dead or wounded.'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'Oh.'
You say, 'The Wolfslayer clan in Sundered Mountain is in danger. I believe they will come under attack any minute. By those things.'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'Well... even the two of us won't be enough. Not if we want survivors out of there. I'll meet you at the fort. But if I were you I'd find some outside help two. You gotta know a person or five right? I'll go help shore up defenses there, when you're ready, go talk to the chieftan.'
You gain 10000 experience!!
Defending the Outpost
You say, 'Hail, Clan Chief Svartbjorn'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'Thank the Gods, I thought you had abandoned us too.'
You say, 'What do you mean? Where are Frankie and Dierdre?'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'The halfling? He's securing the tunnels right now. But Dierdre is no where to be found. So no Knights and no Ward. Worse yet our scouts have dozens of sightings of pale men, undead, and shadowy beings.'
You say, 'Any allies available to help?'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'The Taldorians said they would mobilize a force to assist us... but they are going to be a bit.'
You hear warning horns suddenly blaring from outside.
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'It looks like the enemy will not wait any longer... if you have any last minute preparations, make them now.'
You say, 'They don't stand a chance against me and my companions!'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'Let us meet the enemy head on!'
(NOTE: The Taldorians won't be here for at least 20 minutes. They'll be attacking from the front gate. The less troops that die, the more alignment points you'll earn. If You, Frankie, or Svartbjorn die, then the mission fails!)
Clan Chief Svartbjorn shouts, 'Evacute the Fort. All able bodied warriors come with me to defend the gates! The enemy draws near!'
a wolfslayer soldier shouts, 'Clan Chief! Many noncombatants are fleeing towards us. The enemy is right on their tails! They are leading them right to us!'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn shouts, 'Non-combatants? I thought all our people were in the tunnels below camp.'
a wolfslayer soldier shouts, 'Not our people, travelers along the mountain. I see Taldorians, Dawn orcs, and even some Vulfwere!'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn shouts, 'Let them through, and do your best to keep them alive. We just have to hold until the Taldorians send reinforcements.'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn shouts, 'Here they come!'
You must defend the outpost against 5 waves of attackers.
- a pale bandit x4 and a hostile shadow x1
- a pale bandit x3 and a hostile shadow x1
- a pale bandit x2 and a hostile shadow x1
- a plague-wracked terror x1
- a shambling abomination x2
Note: If either the Clan Chief or Frankie die you fail and must wait 30 minutes to retry the event. Frankie cannot be healed.
Bug!
Quest dialogue indicates that the attack should last 20 minutes, at which point a Taldorian army comes to your aid. This part appears to bug if you kill the waves too fast (killed in 7 minutes), and no Taldorians arrive. Hailing Clan Chief Svartbjorn 10 minutes after the event started allowed the quest to continue. Bug report submitted 2/28/2015.
You say, 'Hail, Clan Chief Svartbjorn'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'We couldn't have lasted without you <Player Name>. We knew Tarhansar and his followers were just, but we didn't appreciate how strong you were as well. We have nothing to give but our thanks, and prayers to Tarhansar. I hope that will be enough.'
You say, 'Thank you. But Frankie and I must return to report at once.'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'Of course. We'll assist the Taldorians in clearning up any other creatures left on the island. We'll send a messenger out to find you if we come up with anything odd.'
You've earned a bonus 9 to Good AND Chaos due to the number of survivors.
Note: the bonus alignment hit may be higher or lower depending on how many NPCs survived the attack.
You gain 50000 experience!!
You say, 'Hail, Clan Chief Svartbjorn'
Clan Chief Svartbjorn says, 'The festival of the Winter Wolf WILL continue. Only now it shall be a celebration of our allies as well as ourselves. Those in Sadri Malath and Tarhansar.'
You say, 'Hail, Frankie Furfoot'
Frankie Furfoot says, 'That was rough... but we did it! I'll help explain things to the Taldorians, you should go report back to Tarhansar.'
Report back to Projection of the Deep.
You say, 'Hail, Projection of the Deep'
Projection of the Deep glows for a moment. 'You have returned <Player Name>. Please, tell me everything that happened on Sundered Mountain.'
You say, '[Describe in detail the fight.]'
Projection of the Deep nods. 'I see. This is most concerning. First Althuna will not respond to my inquiries, then her agents do not arrive in time to assist you? It is good the Taldorians rallied in time, the force you had would not have held forever.'
You say, 'It isn't over yet. I need to get back out there and figure out whats behind all this.'
Projection of the Deep says, 'I agree. The longer we wait, the sooner more people will come to harm. The time for action is now. But first, give me your pearl. I shall further enhance it. Perhaps it will give you an edge in the coming conflicts.'
Give Projection of the Deep your Blushing Pearl of Tarhansar.
Projection of the Deep takes the Blushing Pearl and glimmers brightly . 'There, it has been strengthened. Once the enchantments set, it can be further enhanced. But for now we have a mystery on our hands that only deepens the more we wait.'
You receive Glimmering Pearl of Tarhansar from Projection of the Deep.
You gain 100000 experience!!
