Sergeant Aleroth looks up at you with a troubled expression on his face, 'What is it, Hireling?'

You say, 'Do you have any work for me?'

Sergeant Aleroth says, 'Hmm, yes, indeed I do. I'm in charge of arranging expeditions in this area, and unfortunately the recent expeditions sent out haven't held up to par. Thus far we've sent out expeditions to scout the caves to the far north and the far east of the plateau.'

You say, 'Could you share information on the northern expedition?'

Sergeant Aleroth taps a finger on a paper resting on the drawer in front of him, 'Listen up, Hireling. I have an urgent assignment for you. A few days ago, I sent an armed expedition up to the northern caves to map them out and prospect for resources. They have failed entirely to return. I want you to go up there, find out what has happened, and if possible contact the expedition's leader, Thomas. Time may very well be of the essence, so go!'

Find Surveyor Thomas (Heartland Plateau  at 3527, 1239, 77  •) .

You say, 'Hail, Surveyor Thomas'

Surveyor Thomas says, 'Ahh! Just... just go away. Don't draw the goblins to me!'

You say, 'Aleroth sent me. What happened to the expedition?'

Surveyor Thomas says, 'Dead, dead, all of them dead. We got ambushed by the goblins that live in these caves... I was ahead of the rest of the party, and managed to hide, but I heard the others get cut down... I've been hiding behind this rock for days! They're patrolling the tunnels... there's no way I can get past those patrols.'

Note: The number of guards in the way will be stated - this is usually around four, unless they were killed on the way in.

Kill the a forest goblin guards then return to Surveyor Thomas.

You say, 'Hail, Surveyor Thomas'

Surveyor Thomas says, 'It - it's clear? Alright... alright! I'm getting out of here, now! Uh, I'll see back at the settlement maybe. I... bye!'

You've helped Thomas escape. You should report back to Sergeant Aleroth.

You say, 'Hail, Sergeant Aleroth'

Sergeant Aleroth smiles as <Player Name> greets him, 'Thomas came by and told me that you rescued him.' his features suddenly become grave, 'It's a terrible tragedy what's happened, but at least it was no worse thanks to you. I sent Thomas back to Newport with a couple of guards, I feel that he deserves the rest. You have my personal thanks, and you can be certain that I will write a glowing report about your actions to the Trader.'
