Find Tesia (Heartland Plateau at -1263, -1748 • Near zone in and Blackscale Camp) .
You say, 'Hail, Tesia'
Tesia says, 'Another outlander? Come to join your murdering friends at the tents, perhaps? Or are you one of the tree-killers in the stone heaps? Ah better yet, let me guess, you are one of those scoundrels looking to take what is ours and keep it for your own personal studies. Yes, don't look surprised - run along back to your caves!'
You say, 'umm, pardon? I'm not here to cause trouble'
Tesia says, 'Hmmph, then perhaps you can do me a favor. Go on, then, prove to me you aren't like the others.'
You say, 'It's all a misunderstanding, I'm sure. I'd be glad to help.'
Tesia says, 'I am a dryad, and these are my lands. Me and my sisters have strived long to preserve them, and now violent strangers are undoing all of our sacred work! The strangers appear to be grouped into three... factions, I believe you would say. One, the worst, has set up camp just ahead. They almost killed one of my sisters when she asked their purpose for entering the Heartland. There's another grouping that are building... stone tents of some sort, on the far corner of the plateau. They are murdering trees and wounding the rock, but at least they have not attacked me or my sisters. Finally, there is a group of short people that have taken residence in a cave to the west. What little contact we've had with them has been amiable, but I still do not really trust them.'
You say, 'What do you want from me?'
Tesia says, 'I want to find out more about all three groups. You should be able to just walk into their camps, you are like them! See if you can find out something, anything you can tell me which makes known their intentions. Though we may be too weak to protect the Heartland, if it indeed is in grave danger as I fear, we must still try. Do not tell them that I sent you!'
You say, 'Fine, but I have a question first...'
Tesia says, 'No. You can ask your questions when you have done me this favor, but until then... no.'
You say, 'Fine then...'
Tesia says, 'Go, then! Come back when you know the intentions of all three groups!'
Blackscale
Find Xilkaz of the Order (Heartland Plateau at -850, -1320 • Blackscale Camp) .
You say, 'Hail, Xilkaz of the Order'
Xilkaz of the Order regards Perry with a calculating gaze, before he opens his mouth to speak a hissed greeting, 'You are not our enemy. For the moment. We will accept you here, but watch your steps carefully. What do you want?'
You say, 'tell me about your faction'
Xilkaz of the Order looks suspicious, one claw resting on a bone-hilted dagger at his hip, but speaks regardless, 'We are the Order. We were shaped by the great Blackscale, whose mind was formed to hard, strong steel by the hardships of the Great Flight. She alone saw the weakness, the repeating history in what the lesser races called the 'Return'. She alone saw that we could never hope to reclaim Ikisith and kill the usurper Kaezul unless we embraced the very ideals that makes Kaezul and his hordes strong.'
You say, 'Go on.'
Xilkaz of the Order says, 'Strength and force are eternal. All other ideals, laws, and structures are fleeting, but from the dawn of time until today, force has always prevailed and served to further the side that knew best to employ it. That side is us, and for this reason our cause is destined to succeed. All that stand in the way of the Order will be ground to dust or forced to join us, and then we be a force to shame the Gods themselves!
You say, 'Can you be more specific about your ideals?'
Xilkaz of the Order says, 'We adhere to the ideas of EVIL. To feeble-minded fools, this word carries a negative meaning, but they simply seek to impose their weakness and hide behind a shield of words and ideals. Selfless acts are pointless, and you will gain nothing out of life but that which you take for yourself. Those who will not accept our cause and bow their heads to us must be forced to do so through military strength. No source of power is forbidden as long as it is wielded with strength. We are in this land to make it ours, regardless of what the pathetic fattened merchants of the Silver Crown may claim, or what miniscule resistance the wild natives have to offer. Do the words of the Blackscale ring true in your heart, <Player Race>?'
You say, 'No, they do not'
Xilkaz of the Order says, 'Then you are weak. Scurry away and shelter with the other weaklings, or return when you find your heart and purpose.'
You have learned of the Order of the Blackscale and their ideals.
OR
You say, 'Yes, they do.'
Xilkaz of the Order says, 'Then perhaps you may be worth of joining the Order, <Player Race>. You will find many opportunities for the self-reliant and strong in our ranks.'
You have learned of the Order of the Blackscale and their ideals.
Silver Crown
Find Trader Valner (Heartland Plateau at 1260, 1940 • Silver Crown camp) .
You say, 'Hail, Trader Valner'
Trader Valner eyes Perry appraisingly, then stretches out his hand in greeting, 'Welcome to the Heartland Plateau. I am Trader Valner of the Silver Crown Trading Coalition, and in charge of the construction and maintenace of this settlement. This is all Silver Crown land, so do be careful what you do on our property. How can I help you?'
You say, 'tell me about your faction'
Trader Valner says, 'The Silver Crown Trading Coalition has its origins in the refugee city of Erudin. It was originally formed as a political faction championing the cause of returning and rebuilding our broken homelands, and eventually grew into a powerful merchant organization as it fell upon our shoulders to arrange the massive logistics required for the Return - and the construction of Newport as a new home to all races whose old lands were damaged beyond repair.'
You say, 'Go on.'
Trader Valner says, 'We are regarded as the most powerful faction in the Old World, and we adhere strictly to the tenets of free trade and ordered stability. The Trader General of the Silver Crown is one of the permanent ruling council members of the city of Newport, and we have a strong political presence in the cities of Oggok, Underhill, Halas and Sadri Malath, as well as maintaining shipping and caravan routes between our outposts in the New World and Old World alike. The Silver Crown stands for unity, order, prosperity and rule of the law.'
You say, 'Can you be more specific about your ideals?'
Trader Valner says, 'We maintain the ideal of LAW. Motives and alignments are fickle, and only unchanging, sound principles can be trusted to build the kind of stability that the shattered world of Dalaya needs. Our goal is to maintain peace and order wherever possible, and quell chaos, unrest and rebellion wherever it appears. Through unity, trade and law we will build a new world order that will endure until the end of time. This is the vision of the Silver Crown. Do you find that these principles agree with you?'
You say, 'No, I can't say so.'
Trader Valner nods with a slight frown, 'Unfortunate. If you have a change of mind, you may feel free to return.'
You have learned of the Silver Crown Trading Coalition and their ideals.
OR
You say, 'Yes, most definitely.'
Trader Valner smiles a thin smile, 'Perhaps you should consider the benefits of joining the Silver Crown, then. We are always in need of more able hands.'

Council of Innovation
Find Researcher Delig (Heartland Plateau at 240, 2560 • Council of Innovation camp in the far west caves) .
You say, 'Hail, Researcher Delig'
Researcher Delig bows formally as you approach, 'Hail to you too. I am Delig, Researcher of the Council of Innovation. I lead the excavation of these caves.'
You say, 'tell me about your faction'
Researcher Delig says, 'The Council of Innovation was formed in 45 A.F. by a group of Underhill scholars and magi-mechanics who were united in the belief that machines - clockworks, steam engines, all the great works of the Gnomes - hold the key to a far brighter future for Dalaya. At first, the Council operated solely from and around Underhill and consisted entirely of gnomes, but in time scholars, intellectuals and mages from other races came to join in the research.'
You say, 'Go on.'
Researcher Delig says, 'The focus of the Council expanded to not only the clockwork machines of Underhill, but to understand and harness all the great machinations of Dalaya - the systems that allow it to persist as a living world. We are devoted to the research and creation of systems, machines and orderly structures so that all of the races may know better standards of life and have a higher understanding of the world around them. Our purpose here in this land is to research, study, and preserve - not to upset the natives or harvest the Plateau's resources.'
You say, 'Can you be more specific about your ideals?'
Researcher Delig says, 'Very well. We uphold the ideals of a GOOD alignment, regardless of personality. We pursue knowledge and progress for a greater good. We are opposed to unjust systems and laws. We believe that all sentient lifeforms on Dalaya should be given a chance to live in peace but we are not opposed to the use of force against those who bring it against us or other innocents. Does this sound appealing to you?'
You say, 'No, it does not'
Researcher Delig shrugs, 'Perhaps you will find another faction more to your liking. I bid you good day.'
You have learned of the Council of Innovation and their ideals.
OR
You say, 'Yes, it does.'
Researcher Delig smiles, 'Perhaps you should consider the thought of allying with our faction, then. We could certainly use the help.'

Returning to Tesia
Return to Tesia.
You say, 'Hail, Tesia'
Tesia says, 'You return. What have you found out?'
You say, 'The Council of Innovation are no threat to you dryads. They do not intend to harm the valley or those that live in it, they merely wish to research and investigate.
Tesia nods, seeming slightly more pleased, 'What of the tree-killers?'
You say, 'The Silver Crown are no direct threat. They will not attack you unless provoked, but they do not intend to stop felling the trees.'
Tesia hisses in displeasure, 'They will get their punishment in due time, but they are not of paramount worry... now, what of the cold-scaled ones?'
You say, 'The Blackscale are a direct, terrible threat to you. They want this land and they will kill anything that gets in their way.'
Tesia looks over towards the tents, and then turns back to you, her eyes gleaming with fury, 'Then we shall melt back out of sight and strike them from the hidden parts of the forest, harry their patrols, and slowly bleed them dry. They shall know the fury of the dryads!' she pauses to look at you, 'The forest thanks you, outlander, and though you are not one of us you are welcome among my sisters of the Heartland.'
Your faction standing with Heartland Dryads has gotten better!
You gain 50000 experience!!
You say, 'I would like to ask a question...'
Tesia says, 'Yes, I suppose I owe you as much. Ask.'
You say, 'Where can I find your sisters?'
Tesia says, 'Up the river, by the great white tree. All of us remain there most of the time, except for our mother, the Great Dryad.'
