Newport Ring - Maltar Crow's Bribe

This is an option side-quest. Maltar Crow owner of Crow's Pub in Northern Newport wants to arrange a meeting with Newport's new Seargent of the Guard. You are faced with a choice between upholding the laws of Newport and abusing the power of your new position.

Note: This quest starts at the end of the previous quest. Benrik Nimblefingers is only available for a limited amount of time, so be sure to speak with him as soon as possible.

Benrik Nimblefingers tells you, 'Psst, Sergeant <Player Name>! Over here outside the guard house. I have something I need to speat to you about.'

Find Benrik Nimblefingers (Northern Newport  at 47, 308  • Crow's Pub) .

You say, 'Hail, Benrik Nimblefingers'

Benrik Nimblefingers tells you, 'Maltar sends his congratulations on your promotion. He'd also like to have a word with you personally, and asks you to pay him a visit at the Crow's Pub first chance you get.'

Find Maltar Crow (Northern Newport  at 56, 302  • Crow's Pub) .

You say, 'Hail, Maltar Crow'

Maltar Crow says, 'Well hello there, Sergeant. Nice of you to drop by. Congratulations are in order, another fine upstanding citizen has risen in the ranks of the guard - all the way to becoming the newest Sergeant. That aside, let's cut to the chase, shall we?' Maltar Crow looks around then motions for you to come closer.'

You say, 'Alright, what do you want?'

Maltar Crow tells you, 'Piqued your interest, hmm? Look, my circle of... 'friends' have been under a lot of scruTiny lately, coming under fire from the gaurd and other officials in the city. People often call us thugs, but honestly, we're just trying to make a living like anyone else. Sure, what we do may be shady, but hey... it pays the bills and puts a little extra in our pockets. That said, I have a little proposal for you.. it'd be nice to have an ally like you watching out for us, being a higher up in the gaurd and all.'

You Say, 'Go on, I'm listening.'

Maltar Crow tells you, 'We've got a shipment of... 'supplies' coming in later tonight by ship from Freeport. Name of the courier is Rodrigo. Here's where you come in: What Rodrigo is carrying won't make it past inspection at all, unless of course you tell Captain Thalas not to bothering searching his bags - y'know, because you know Rodrigo personally and they can trust that he isn't going to be breaking any Newport laws with what he brings into the city. Tell you what, here's some coin upfront, to show you that I have nothing by good intentions.'

You receive 25 pieces.

You get a sinking feeling Maltar Crow has just attempted to bribe you to allow transport of illegal substances to pass through the dock checkpoint unnoticed.

Note: You are offered 3 choices in this point.

Accepting the bribe

You say, 'Rodrigo, right? Alright, I'll make sure the Captain knows he can trust him.'

Maltar Crow tells you, 'Good deal. Once you've let the guards know, feel free to drop by for the rest of your payment.'

Find Captain Thalas (Southern Newport  at -187, -49  • Newport Port Autority Building) .

You say, 'A friend named Rodrigo will be coming in tonight. You can trust him and need not search his bags.'

Captain Thalas says, 'Affirmative Sergeant <Player Name>. I will be sure to let your friend Rodrigo pass through inspection. I'm sure a friend of an upstanding member of the guard such as yourself has no need to hide anything from us.'

Return to Maltar Crow.

Maltar Crow says, 'Thanks a bunch, <Player Name>. Rodrigo got throught the checkpoint fine and dandy, all thanks to you. Here is the rest of your payment.'

You gain 5000 experience!!

You receive 75 pieces.

Note: Alignment shift towards Chaotic Evil.

Accept the bribe but do nothing

You say, 'Yeah, I'll think about it. We will see.'

Maltar Crow tells you, 'Alright, Sergeant. Just stop by once you've done the deed for the rest of your payment.'

Note: You keep the 25 platinum from the bribe.

Reject the bribe

You say, 'Attempting to bribe a member of the Newport Guard? Sergeant Halsey will hear about this!'

You toss the platinum coins back at Maltar Crow.

Maltar Crow tells you, 'You dirty bastard...'

You lose 25 pieces.

Find Sergeant Halsey (Northern Newport  at 265, 23  • Inside the gatehouse during)

You say, 'Hail Sergeant Halsey'

Sergeant Halsey says, 'What is it, <Player Name>? You look rather upset.'

You say, 'Maltar Crow attempted to bribe me.'

Sergeant Halsey says, 'What? Whatever in the world for?'

You say, 'I think he is smuggling illegal substances into the city. He has someone named Rodrigo bring them in through the docks.'

Sergeant Halsey says, 'I see. Thank you for telling me this, <Player Name>. You make the Guard proud with your devotion to the law. Here is a Small bonus on your pay, and I will be sure to ask Captain Thalas to keep an eye out for this Rodrigo fellow.'

You gain 5000 experience.
