Level 1-10 Guide

From SoDWiki

Almost everyone logs in for the first time and wonders where to go right out of the box. Following these instructions with the proper turn-ins it is completely possible for a completely new and untwinked player to get level 10 with relative ease!

Most starting towns have a portal to the Mansion of Portals in them (Grobb doesn't, travel through Stinger's Bog to Greenmist Jungle to Oggok) which is a zone dedicated to expedited travel across the world. Simply enter and open your map by pressing ← Backspace to find the portal to Southern Newport.

Head to Northern Newport - now you're in the right place to get started, so don't forget to type #bind (replaces the spell Bind Affinity and works for all classes, but not in all zones!) at the north gate.

Classes with access to the Newport Sewer guild (Necromancers and Shadowknights) can turn in all turn-in items listed in this guide to Mujush the Mummy, as well as to the guard in Northern Newport, allowing for a combined total of fourty turn-ins per item. Take advantage of this and collect extra items for both! Shadowknights should also consult their GM, Terror Lord Cadrak, as one of their class quests involves killing rats in the sewer.

Also, as much of this guide takes place in the Newport Sewers, players unfamiliar with swimming should take note that the PG UP and PG DN buttons are used in combination with regular movement keys to control swimming up and down. A breath meter will appear once you are fully submerged unless you are using a spell like Spell: Enduring Breath.

Northern Newport

From here on you're killing almost non-stop. Start with picking off the a giant beetles that wander around and collect their Giant Beetle Pincers. Collect 20 of these [NO DROP] items used for Culling the Beetle Infestation bounty quest, an exp/cash turn in quest. Do not turn in Giant Beetle Pincers yet. At levels 1 and 2 these might be a little challenging for a solo player, but anyone with a friend can start on them immediately. Solo players may want to get a few levels killing the a moss snakes first.

Newport Sewers

Once you have 20 Giant Beetle Pincer head down into Newport Sewers (theres an entry point east of the Northern Newport gate, where the vines grow on the wall). Casters should, if able, purchase any new or upcoming spells at this point. You should be level 4 or 5 at this point. Head south and west from the zone in until you come to an area with a good concentration of a sewer rats (there is 3 groups of 3 and 1 that wanders.) Get started on murdering them until you've collected 20 Sewer Rat Tails (also [NO DROP]). Be warned there is a chance that the named a bloated rat will spawn here - it is several levels higher than the others and is actually aggressive (but with a Small radius--you can pull the 2 rats around him without getting the big one). He drops two useful items for low levels that can be equipped by any class or race (or sold to a merchant.)

At this point, head back to Northern Newport and hand in 20 Giant Beetle Pincers and 20 Sewer Rat Tail to Guardsman Stanton. This should put you at or close to level 8. Casters should purchase new spells at this point. Head back into the Newport Sewers.

Due south from the rat camp you will find a Sewer Ratmans. These are your next prey and also drop Sewer Ratman Hood which turn in again for exp/cash to the same named guard in Northern Newport. There are also 2 named spawns at each 3 spawn of ratmen, Rathide and Ratstink, which drop earrings or sword/shield as rare-drops. Be careful pulling them as they are social and can come in groups!

If you out pace the spawns feel free to kill the ratlings (green-con) as they can still drop some cloth armor and the Sewer Ratman Hoods for turn-in! These can be camped until level 10, turning in the Sewer Ratman Hoods when possible for exp bumps.
