Kite

Kiting is a tactic for solo fighting that involves running way from the monster or monsters you are fighting. There are many different class specific styles of kiting, but in essence, they all involve running away.

For a Necromancer, kiting involves slowing the monster with a Darkness spell, then adding other DoT spells, and running, recasting them when they run out, and having your pet follow the monster dealing additional damage. This is called Pet Kiting.

A Druid kites by casting Spirit of Wolf (SoW) on himself and Snare on the mob and keeps casting DoTs and DD spells while backing out of range of the mob's attack. This is called Snare kiting

A Ranger uses bow/archery-kiting by snaring the mob and running backwards shooting arrows on it. Can be combined with Dots and DD spells as well. With a decent combination of keyboard setting and usage of mouse one can even kite in (relatively) small circles.

Another tactic involves casting a Root spell on the mob to immobilize it and then DoTs to cause damage. However, Root can be broken by the damage caused so the caster must be ready to recast Root at any time. This is called Root kiting or Root Rotting. If done by a Ranger it has been known as Root'n'Shoot.

Another strategy is Fear kiting, where you use a Fear spell on a monster, cast your DoT's on it, and keep re-Fearing it until it dies.
