There are many types of events, some last a long time while others are relatively short, and may start anytime, any place.

Treasure hunters need to find (and hit) a golden beast hidden in the active zone to claim a decent amount of platinum and experience. Admin-Slaariel, the creator of this event, has implied that committed treasure hunters might be specially rewarded
