Common player slang
- boxing
- Boxing is a method of play where the player runs 2 characters on 2 different accounts to provide mutual assistance between the 2 characters. Often, this will involve a melee class and a healer class such as a Warrior and a Shaman.
- buff
- A slang term used in chat to describe a beneficial spell that increases one or more abilities of the recipient.
- caster
- Caster refers to those character classes that use magic in its myriad forms. Magicians, Wizards, Enchanters and Necromancers are referred to pure casters. Bards, Shadowknights, and all pure casters rely on INT as their primary spell casting attribute. Paladins, Beastlords and all priest classes rely on WIS as their primary casting casting attribute.
- crowd control
- Crowd control (CC) is a method of coping with multiple enemies in a single fight. It is is an effective means of minimizing damage done to the tank while focusing the group's efforts onto one target at a time. This is commonly achieved through the use one of a mesmerize or root spell.
- debuff
- Debuff spells are detrimental duration effects which weaken some statistic, making the target weaker in some manner.
- farm
- Farming refers to the practice of hunting NPCs or any level for the loot that they drop. A common practice amongst players trying to raise tradeskills, it can sometimes interfere with the gameplay of lower level characters trying to gain experience.
- greenies
- This term refers to NPCs that /con green to the Player. These NPCs are lower level than the player, and will not give any experience.
- main tank
- In a group, the character designated to take the brunt of the NPC attacks while the other group member provide support.
- meat shield
- Refers to a melee class ... made of meat, acts like a shield.
- mob
- Synonymous with non-playable character (NPC). The term was originally derived from Mobile OBject from the days MUD gaming.
- ninja looting
- Looting an item from an NPC to which the looter has no right.
- rez
- Resurrection (Rez or Revive) or another player can only be done successfully if they are online; if they are not, then the rez is wasted, and the corpse will be unable to be resurrected in the future. Successful esurrections remove a percentage experience debt once the player corpse has been looted.
- placeholder
- Place holder (PH) is a mob, generally mundane, which may spawn in place of a named mob

- root-rotting
- Root-rotting an NPC is a combat technique where the players cast a root spell on an NPC and then proceed to load it with damage over time (DoTs) and other debuffs until it dies. Spells with a direct damage componant have a high chance of break roots.
- solo
- The ability to gain experience outside of a group. Most classes can do this, but some, such as Necromancers, excel at it more than others.
- tank
- Tank refers to a melee class due to the fact that they are generally well armored and well armed ... just like a tank. The most common tanks are Warriors, Paladins and Shadowknights. Main Tanks are considered the character in a group who will take the melee damage from the mob, and keep the aggro on themselves and away from the other, less armored characters in the group.
