The Triumvirate made its first move against Yclist today. We heard the shouts and horns of battle from outside the walls. When I arrived, the city guardsmen were cut to pieces, scarcely a score of them still on their feet. The Triumvirate troops were toying with them. I drew my dagger, and from the walls set to aid the guardsmen.

The captain of the Triumvirate cavalry was mounted on a large dappled stallion carrying some kind of enormous ornamental lance. I reached out and took gold of his mind, feeling its contours and shape. Then I twisted them. He shouted, spurred his mount and drove the lance into his nearest companion. His horse continued under his mad spurring and the point of the lance speared another riser before anyone could react.

The weight of two lifeless corpses dragged the lance from his hands and he drew his sword.

Our own defenders had disengaged, drew back toward the gates. I turned my power to them and began casting, speeding their reflexes and muscles, unlocking reserves of strength they hadn't known they possessed, even convincing their bodies to slow the flow of blood from their wounds. The guardsmen flew back into the cavalry, who were clearly unsettled by chopping their captain to pieces.

We fended off this attack, but one of the city guards was once in the infantry and spoke to me after we recovered. The number and formation of the riders indicated that they were an advance party for a much larger army, and were probably only a few days ahead of the main host. These riders had come to demand that the gates be opened, and to assess the defensibility of the University itself. The city guardsmen lured them near the walls before conducting an ambush. The fools could have just closed the damned gate and we wouldn't have shown our hand so early. Either way, this coming army terrifies me; out pathetic - <text cut off from UI bug>
