We have determined that Yclistinite acts like a well for the power it holds. With a piece of the refined metal anyone can draw power from it. As the council mines and smelts the ore the power we can channel grows. This means that the danger for both the wielding and the subject is increasing.

Three of out novices have shown prowess at manipulating the magic of the yclistinite beyond the others. In the wake of Klikil's death, I have warned Fer`Din, Zo`Rel and Yk`Sil to be cautious in their experimentation, but the young have no use for wisdom. Secretly, I am glad to see their progress: they are extraordinary. All of those who attune to the metal's power can create illusions of varying sizes and complexity, but these more powerful students are leaps and bounds ahead of the rest. Adepts wield thin stilettos of the attuned yclistinite to allow them access to its energy, the size of the piece is not important.

The power can be difficult to control; it is possible to damage someone if you are not careful. The illusions become so real to the subjects of these tests that they sometimes persist even when the enchanter ceases. Since Klikil we have stopped using people as subjects for untried shapings of the yclistinite's oiwer. The risk of burning out an actual mind is too great, and the power continues to grow as the mine operates. The rats are loose in the hallways and have been found biting the faces and tails of students while they sleep.

I know that if we could convince the Triumverate to send us more yclistinite we could achieve even greater things. Their petty jealousy over their inability to use the ore will hold up our progress.
