General Information
- This adept must be fought at range via magic, archery, or throwing; approaching her perch will result in the player getting knocked down.
- Caynid Brightwater, located down the hall from the ledge where Hazel is fought, will supply endless Anti-Algae Scatter Stones for this purpose if needed.
- Hazel's distance from the ledge is approximately 100 units, although player positioning can make this vary between 90 and 125, so be sure to choose spells and long-distance weaponry that can cover this range.
- Hazel deals and takes percentage-based damage, meaning player AC, weapon ratio, DPS, etc., are irrelevant.
- Having lower HP means the player will be able to regenerate or heal through Hazel's damage more easily.
- If the player wishes to minimize the damage done by Hazel by having as low an HP pool as possible, consider doing the following:
- Fight Hazel at a lower level.
- Unequip any gear that grants HP or STA.
- Equip items with negative STA, such as multiple Kaleidoskink Nails.
- Equip items that grant +Throwing skill to land more hits.
- Upon engage, a foothold will appear at the base of the railing on the ledge. Short races with line-of-sight issues due to height may choose to right-click or hail this foothold. Doing so will teleport the character on top of the railing, ensuring a clear line of sight with Hazel. The foothold may only be utilized at close range.
- Races who may benefit from the foothold include:
- Dark Elf
- Dwarf
- Froglok
- Gnome
- Halfling
- Wood Elf

Strategy
- Engage via some form of ranged attack (spells, archery, or throwing). Hazel will stop circling her perch and begin sniping her attackers.
- Periodically, Hazel will emote that she is overloading her bow with arrows. At this point, everyone should hide out of her line of sight. After a few seconds, she will unleash five powerful, highly accurate arrows at random targets who are within her view. If everyone is hidden, the arrows will clatter against the wall and she will resume her normal bowshots, at which point the players can return to view and resume combat.
- Slender races may be able to strafe behind one of the railing pillars to dodge Hazel's overloaded arrows, but larger races, such as Ogres and Trolls, must retreat either to the side alcove of the ledge or down the hallway toward Caynid Brightwater in order to dodge the arrows.
- Being hit by two or more of these arrows may be fatal, so hiding or offering her a greater number of in-sight targets to spread out the damage is recommended.
- Upon reaching low HP, Hazel will yell that she has lost interest in teasing the inhabitants of Athica. She will then cast Gate, leaving the zone. Caynid Brightwater will emerge from the hallway, thanking the players for their help and leaving a small treasure chest, Caynid`s Cache, to loot.
- The loot within Caynid`s Cache is determined by the class and race composition of those on Hazel's hatelist at the time of her defeat. This means that it is unlikely to contain unusable loot.
Jayla's Insight
- Hazel the Shrew is a mean-spirited brownie whose precarious position protects her from close-range combat and pets. She must be fought via long-range means from a specific ledge to the north. Those interested in her story should seek out Caynid Brightwater within Athica, although doing so is optional.
- A skilled archer, Hazel fires arrows that deal percentage-based damage, meaning those with lower HP will take less damage and therefore be easier to heal. She will also periodically overload her bow during combat, spraying 5 arrows toward the ledge all at once. The player should bear in mind that archers rely on line of sight to make their attacks, and this one is no exception. If her target hides from her, she will be quick to find a replacement.
