Bane damage
Overview
Bane damage is an equipment effect which provides a damage bonus against specific mobs based on their body types. There are three different ways this bonus is applied: Weapon Bane, Worn Bane, and Spell Bane.
Weapon Bane
Bane damage on weapons is added directly to weapon damage and thus affects any attack made with that weapon (including Backstab. For example, a weapon with 5 damage, 10 delay and +5 Monster bane is equivalent to a 1.0 ratio weapon against Monster mobs but a 0.5 ratio weapon against non-Monster mobs.
Worn (Non-Weapon) Bane
Commonly referred to as worn bane, this bonus is gained through wearing any non-weapon item. It increases melee attacks (auto-attack only) by a set percentage per point of bane (theorized to be +1% per point of bane). Worn bane is non-additive, and only the highest bane damage level item of non-weapon items will be counted. Thus if a player is wearing Perception, Eye of the Father (+8 Dragonkin bane) and Witbound Necklace (+4 Dragonkin bane), that player's worn Dragonkin bane is +8 (and not +12).
Spell Bane
Bane damage on any item (weapon and non-weapon) may also affect spells and procs. Any damaging spell level 50 or higher with a base cost of more than 5 mana gains an additive bonus of all bane effects. Thus, if a Shaman is wearing Ashpyre (+15 Greatkin bane) and Crushing Earth Huaraches (+11 Greatkin bane), and casts Fury of the North (base mana cost of 325), that spell will gain an extra +26 damage versus any Greatkin mob.
