Adepts FAQ
What is an adept?
Adepts are specially flagged enemies that cannot be engaged by players over a certain level. They are designed as "raid mobs", meaning they typically require larger number of players to kill, as well as better strategies because of the aforementionned level cap on who can engage them.
What special powers do adepts have besides their level?
All of them summon(excluding Crate of Pets) (meaning kiting or rooting them in place isn't a viable strategy) and most have a higher than normal amount of hp, hp regeneration rate and attack power. Many also have unique powers such as the ability to summon help in the form of additionnal, unavoidable mobs. Always come prepared for the worst if you are not familiar with an adept's powers.
How do I tell adepts apart from ordinary mobs?
First of all, they are all named (i.e. no generic title such as "a lioness" or "a bandit"). Also, they all have the mention "adept" added under their name. Note: this mention does not appear on track or in the target box, it can be seen only over the adept's head.
What is the respawn timer for a given adept?
The game's formula for an adept's respawn is it's maximum engagement level divided by 2, with the end result in hours. For example: The Mist Stalker, a level 12 adept, has a respawn of 6 hours, The Junkbeast, a level 15 adept, has a respawn of 7.5 hours, and so on...
What does the engage cap means?
It means that you can only assist with the killing of the adept if it cons red to you. I.e. a level 15 adept can only be attacked by level 12 and under (as it'd con yellow to a level 13 player). This "engage level" is very strict and none of the following actions can be taken by players above the engage level: -directly engaging the adept in melee, range or magical combat; -buffing a player below the engage cap (the high level player cannot cast buff while the fight is underway and if the low level player has a buff on him cast by the high level player, he will not be able to engage the adept); -healing the low level player through any means; -taking any other action that would get the high level player to be added to the adept's hate list.
What kind of group(s) do I need to kill adepts?
It varies based on the group's composition, gear, strategy and level, but as a rule of thumb, adepts below level 20 can be killed by a single but strong group. Adepts between level 20 and 40 will require a full very strong group with additional support. Adepts over level 40 require two strong groups. The maximum engage for any adept is twelve toons.
What are the advantages of killing adepts?
Ph4t l3wt, mostly. Items dropped by adepts are often extremely nice for the level they are attained. Think of adepts encounters as the same thing as crawling through a dungeon to kill a strong boss and loot its treasures, minus the dungeon crawling aspect. Most Adepts drop three loots per kill.
