SoDWiki talk:Top 5

From SoDWiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

  1. These ranks are based on fomelo statistics with only a few exceptions
  2. Non-finished tomes do nothing. As long as it isn't finished, it doesn't count. The only exception from this are the Codex of Power, cause they actually do something before completed.
  3. Gtoo replay rule: You must indisputably pass the incumbent spot holder in the rankings and not just be a tiny smiggle better or just kind of close.
  4. Inactiveness is subject to interpretation. Easiest way to change status is to post here.
  5. If you want to move someone up the list, make a comparison here first. Put it at the bottom of the page under a heading such as ==Class Character Name vs Character Name==. Tomes in Character Comparisons can be very useful when writing a comparison.
  6. Edit wars on this article can result in wiki account IP bans. If you disagree with a change, roll it back once and post why here. If you see your change has been rolled back, use this talk page to discuss why your change was removed.

Update summary[edit]

Updated Monks. Deleted the banned Cinn. Inserted the two noobish horok wielding monks above Aecav. -Raxton

Updated Shadowknights. Zorr has surpassed Versul, and Versul doesn't seem to have wrist items anymore (?) Nathasar 10:50, 13 December 2012 (EST)

Last I knew, Zorr was certainly ahead of Versul. However, in the future, if you notice someone is missing critical gear (or similarly wearing resist or other bagged gear) please try to give them a chance to put on the right gear (preferably try to get ahold of them or someone with their info) before moving them. It's obvious that whoever was playing Versul probably took them off when tanking something that they didn't want the wrists damaging effects to proc on. - Rari Talk 13:48, 13 December 2012 (EST)

Bagged items[edit]

Curious why Taraztu's Infernal Trap (WIZ) for example needs to be kept track of, yet we cant keep track of tot weapons which require alot of effort? NP dont use Ashpyre or Flarewynd to bump someone, vah back used to also be excluded from comparisons. (and still is? as its not on the above list yet has a flag for it), but i dont see why delete the ashpyre flag for it. alot of peeps on the list definately went thru the trouble to earn one. [ Anti -> Rari ]

You're right, its a bad precedent. Clickies haven't been counted and shouldn't be unless they're worn. Removing vah back. Please sign with 4 tildes. - Rari Talk 03:33, 26 July 2012 (EDT)
It's a pretty safe assumption that anyone who has a character good enough to be on the top 5 list will have any of the spells there's markers for except for Absolution, Celestial Shield and Shout of Agony. Should probably remove the tags for all but those and the second shaman mask quest. Zapple 17:17, 26 July 2012 (EDT)
Idk the way i see it is just cause the flag is there doesnt mean it counts in ur comparison. But being they are not listed on formelo, but are stuff to goal towards. And how Ridiculously Easy it is to add little boxes to the wiki templates. Being a community top5, it would be a decent place to keep track of that kinda stuff. No need to remove vah backs, lol?. Anyways obviously im a minority. I dont even know how to use this page correctly. - Anti.
Stars are meant to represent things that are used for comparisons but cannot be viewed on fomelo. If you want to pimp everything you have in your bags, feel free to do it on your user page but I don't see any reason to clutter up the Top 5 just to extend e-peen. Zapple, I think you have a good point, but I'd like to see some more opinions (or research) on it before removing them. Removing them would be tantamount to requiring them (and maybe that's ok, but idk how I feel about that.) As always, please use ~~~~ to sign. - Rari Talk 13:54, 28 July 2012 (EDT)
To shed a bit of light on why it was originally done check somewhere in the middle of my thread on it, but for a short synopsis.
A) No way to verify short of having character access/putting in an egregious amount of work (contacting someone, getting them to put all their stuff on, fomeloing again, etc). Giant pain in the ass, doing it for the warriors for certain things was bad enough.
B) Equipment is generally understood to be balanced around the entire item as being worn. This includes the clickies and focus effects on the item. This is especially pertinent to things like companion strength/health. No one remembers them every single time they zone. In addition, while some people are fairly rapid with pulling an item out of a bag, tossing it on, and using the effect (taesh ear for example), it isn't nearly as fast as when worn. Add that to the loss of stats that generally happens at that point and you can start to see the problem.
C) Excessive amount of work on the part of the maintainers. There are like twenty items off the top of my head that add a huge amount of utility to a character that could be counted if someone was insane enough to want to do all the work. There are probably many more now. I'm fairly certain keeping track of that all would involve small notecards, pushpins, string, and a brightly lit basement with some sort of shrine.
There are other reasons, those are just quick ones off the top of my head. But yeah, vah back should have never been on there. Aisling 02:59, 9 August 2012 (EDT)

Satrig beats Zoroth by so much, it isn't even funny any more.

Shuks beats both Paxx and Temellin by a lot as well.

I'm not an expert on BSTs, but Obae should be somewhere on that list. I'll leave it to someone more knowledgeable to this class to figure out if he should be #1 or #2. 20:58, 17 December 2012 (EST)

Requesting input.

These are pretty useless since people swap items around and it just gets edited constantly and serves no purpose. Mana in particular is the biggest offender. Something like "best tank" (hp, ac, tomes, etc) might be interesting. That's not very subjective imo. Maybe for healers too but that's fairly murky. Skill mods, alteration, clickies, crit, etc. Even something like an Opus count would be more interesting than the current. Since someone keeps editing in Nwaij as #1 mana even though he's literally never had the highest mana in the history of the game, I propose we just crown Nwaij king and move on. How important is runic 2 and atk cap to a bard? Not clear to me that Binsin passes Nifera.

Also I wanted to call attention to rule 6 (don't edit fight). Future pissing contests should take place here elsewise I will do temporary ip bans on you.

Comparison Key[edit]

Just thinking about comparison key.. wondering if any thought it'd be more beneficial to list stuff like Vah Quest done.. Third Seeker Aug.. etc. Stuff that's actually measurable and makes/could make a difference rather than farming a spell or something for a few hours. Emzur 16:27, 16 November 2017 (EST)

I don't see a need to remove anything, but additional flags can be added. Marthog (talk) 21:07, 16 November 2017 (EST)

Permanent removal[edit]

I believe this will hurt the integrity of this list, but I have said before that we would respect individual requests. If for ANY reason you do not wish for your character to appear on the Top 5 list, please post to this section with your character's name. You must have primary ownership of the character. This is a permanent decision, so please consider this very carefully. - Rari Talk 13:34, 12 January 2018 (EST)

Bard List (Page Temporarily Protected)[edit]

Since there is obviously a disagreement over this section, I must ask for the list to be resolved here. The temporary protection on the page will end tomorrow, but I will remove it sooner if this can resolved amicably. All bans related to this edit war have been ended to allow for conversation here. - Rari Talk 13:40, 12 January 2018 (EST)
