Emissary Judith, a diplomat from the Newport Guard visiting Surefall Glade, enlists your help in dealing with a local menace.
Walkthrough
Note: This dialog may be class specific to wizard maybe someone can come through later to generalize it when more information is available.
Find Emissary Judith (Surefall Glade at 107,-50,5 • Just outside the ranger guild) .
You say, 'Hail, Emissary Judith'
Emissary Judith says, 'Salutations, citizen. Say, you look like a man of the world. Have you heard rumor of a drake in these parts?'
you say, A drake? No, though I'm intrigued. Is there any truth to the rumor?
Emissary Judith says, 'I believe so. Reports of a dangerous, lone drake have come in from Centaur Hills, Western Badlands, and, most recently, Surefall Glade. I, Emissary Judith, have been tasked with winning over the local guildmasters to the cause of exterminating the beast, but they've proven woefully unreceptive. I even brought rare gifts to curry favor with them, but they refused those just as they refused my words.'
you say, Why did they turn you away? Do they have a plan of their own?
Emissary Judith says, 'Their 'plan' is to let the drake be and assume it'll move on without incident. The leader of the Druid guild, Tzailav the Elder, claims that putting down the drake would be 'an affront to nature' despite the danger it brings. Once he put his foot down, Ranger General Shedari was quick to join him. Not only has she declined to put her exceptional tracking skills to use in finding the creature, but she instructed the guild to follow her example. I'm sure that Tzailav and Shedari's hearts are in the right place, but I fear they're letting their ideals cloud their judgment. They don't appreciate the danger of the situation.'
You say, 'Just how dangerous is this drake?'
Emissary Judith says, 'Oh, very dangerous! In the short time since its arrival, several farmers and travelers have had scrapes with death after crossing its path. The last such party was a Wizard and her child in the Western Badlands, the latter of whom would have died were it not for her mother's teleportation magic. We in the Newport Guard worry that it's only a matter of time before the drake begins picking off citizens. I know neither how nor why the creature has come to roam our lands, but one thing is for certain -- for the good of the people, it must be slain.'
You say, 'Do you know for certain that the drake is somewhere in Surefall Glade?'
Emissary Judith says, 'Not for certain, no. However, this is where the latest sighting came from. Sergeant Halsey was quick to put me on the case, though neither of us counted on meeting this kind of resistance. I suppose I'll have to report back to the sergeant to tell him we have two choices -- either we bring in the politicians to argue with the guildmasters, or we storm the glade with a small army whether the guilds like it or not. Whatever the case, we must act before the drake moves on to terrorize some other poor folk.'
You say, 'Neither of those paths sounds ideal. Perhaps there is a third option.'
Emissary Judith says, 'Oh? Are you proposing something, citizen?'
You say, 'I am no novice in the ways of combat and have fought stranger things than a drake in my day. If this beast is half the threat you say it is, then I'd like to try my hand at vanquishing it myself.'
Emissary Judith says, 'Hmm. Under normal circumstances, the Newport Guard would steer clear of hiring out mercenaries, but I have enough clout as an emissary to authorize this. I can even promise you fair payment for the service, provided you bring some proof of the deed. Those gifts the guildmasters refused -- I believe there's something among them would suit a Wizard like yourself perfectly. Be warned, however, that the city of Newport will not be held responsible for any harm that befalls you. This was, after all, your idea.'
You say, 'Then the deal is struck. I'll return with a memento of the drake as soon as I've put an end to its life.'
Emissary Judith says, 'Very well. Make haste. Slay the foul monster before it claims its first victim. I'll wait here for your return.'
Now that you've agreed to investigate the drake, you ought to think like a drake. A flying beast is unlikely to keep to ground level, so perhaps you should explore the nearby terrain for some means of reaching higher ground...
NOTE: This quest does *not* require a levitation buff.
Kill a mystic drake and turn in one Translucent Biwing to Emissary Judith.
Emissary Judith says, 'Goodness me, look at this wing! 'Tis a shame that so fair a fiend had to be put down. You've done Newport a great service by dispatching this threat, even if the guildmasters here might not see it that way. I had second thoughts about hiring out a mercenary under the table, but it seems my doubts were misplaced. Anyhow, I found the perfect reward in this chest. Out of everything in there, it's the one item most suited to a Wizard like yourself. But let's keep things above-board, too, shall we? I also hereby grant you one major bounty token for redemption at the Office of the People. I believe that concludes our business, citizen. Thank you.'
You receive Disaster.
Note: reward will vary by class
You receive Newport Major Bounty Token.
