Talk:Traekoth the Ancient

From SoDWiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

Strategy

Has a line of sight AoE fear spell. Has a 350-375 AoE disease nuke as well (with 150 disease resist, I still take max a lot). Melee attacks hit upwards of 360 max (I don't recall any harder than that). Fairly low resists, Tash and Malise after should hit first or second time, Slow will stick first or second time after that.

Battle information

  • Max Hit
    • Hit: 462
    • Bash: 225
  • Special abilities

Strategy

Total of 12 people can attack Traekoth. Before buffing up, EVERYONE should remove EVERY buff they have. If you have any buffs at all from a 58+ character (even a lower level buff), you can not engage Traekoth.

ATTN: You cannot have more than 12 toons in raid. If there are more exess numbers will be locked out of combat at random. We had the cleric locked out in a raid of 13 and wiped pretty fast. - episom

Class makeup

Healers

You're going to want 3-4 healers for this. 3 if they all have a lot of mana, 4 if they don't. Last run we didn't use a cleric. Had 3 druids (1 became a 75% druid), and 2 pally's for our raid's heal power. It was risky doing it that way, but in the end it worked out. I would suggest 4 healers total though. Try to stick to no more than 2 of a class unless it can't be avoided.

DPS

Perhaps the most important part of a Traek raid. If you don't have a high amount of damage output against him, your healers will simply run out of mana before he dies. It doesn't really matter what classes you choose, but have the raid primarily DPS. Also, having at least 1 Bard in the raid is a good idea. Put him in the main tank group.

Tank

Lower level characters like us don't always have high resists. Because of this, Monk/Pally tanks are a must for Traekoth. It's a good idea to have your main tank go into fear immune stance right before engaging. When that expires, be sure to use Decanter of the Brave from the main quest. That way you can get a little over a minute of fear immune tanking. If your DPS is high enough, he should die before decanter fades. If not, just work around it.

Preparation

You can buff up at the large stone that is right next to Traekoth. There are no mobs that roam around near by. After you finish buffing, invis the tank and have him stand just in front of Traek. He summons a lot, so you're going to tank him right where he's standing. While tank is invis, healers need to set their distance from him/Traek. All healers should stand 1 or 2 steps closer than the max range for their "big" heal. Having a Range II or III focus item is helpful, because it guarantees that they will be outside of the fear range. I've found that Keeper's Medallion is the easiest range item to get, and it's sold all the time for 30-50p.

Attack!

Call your engage. Traekoth fears the second he's engaged, so make sure you swap to fear immune stance before breaking invis. Have all DPS give the MT 5 seconds to get aggro before attacking. Pure caster DPS may want to wait 15 seconds before nuking, and don't nuke TOO hard until Traek is at about 75%.

With 4 healers, your MT will have 2 dedicated healers (1 from each group) and 2 fill-in healers that also do group heals. Just keep everyone alive and go to town.

Note: Also note that Traekoth is flagged as an Elemental mob, so if you have Elemental Bane (Exile Elemental) you may want to use it as very mana efficient damage.

{{note|my monk usually has pretty solid resists, considering his level, of most being 250ish+ buffed. The fear still rips me apart and it only takes 1 fear to mess it all up. Fear immunity is a must. - tacad

Note: Shadow Knights rejoice, tanked Traek tonight with a 57SK and fear resistance at level 3. No decanter of the brave and no fear immunity stance. Got the idea because last time SK was in raid did not get feared once. Tanked and again not feared. Harm touch to get aggro and use stance 6 to avoid hits, and then aggro spell the heck out of Traek. Easy kill.
