Find Jeslyn Truewind (Greater Faydark  at -583, 261, 77  • Kelethin, outside of the warriors' guild-hall) .

You say, 'Hail, Jeslyn Truewind'
Jeslyn sobs softly to herself. She pays you no mind, but you can hear her mumble to herself in despair about her lost child.
You say, 'Are you okay?'
Jesly jumps up, obviously desperate, 'I am not okay! My son... he has been taken! I told him to stay away from the ruins. He told me that he would see my dead husband in the stone... but now they are both lost to me.
You say, 'What happened?'
Jeslyn Truewind says, 'My husband was killed during one of the last battles in the war while I was pregnant. Every since my beautiful Jeffy could talk he would ask about his father. Lately, he began talking about his 'friend' Toots, and how she would show him all over the forest and show him what his father looked like. At first I thought nothing of it, since I had an imaginary friend at his age. But then... things started to get dark.'
You say, 'Dark? How?'
Jeslyn Truewind says, 'He started to know things that he had no way of finding out. Once, he called me by the nickname that only his father had before he died. I am absolutely certain I never told him about it, and I know that no one else knew. He started staying out late in the forest, and no matter how many times made him come in by dark, he would just sneak out at night anyway. And then, he just stopped coming home. I think that something dark and evil took him. The guard put out searches for two weeks, but now they say they are calling it off. Te guards say it is just my nerves, but I swear I heard someone laughing at us while I walked around the forest calling out Jeffy's name. I do not know what to do. He is just a child!' Jeslyn begins to cry again.'
You say, 'Maybe I can help look. Is there anything you know that may help me?'
Jeslyn Truewind says, 'His favorite spot in the forest was to the south, where the old road dead ends. That is he always said he and his 'friend' would play together. But we looked all over there for hours with no sign of him. I wish I had more... I have nothing else to give you. Please, please Playername, if you find my boy I will do anything for you.'

Good dialog option

You say, 'You do not need to do anything for me, and I will do my best to find your son.'
Jeslyn's eyes light up with a small glimmer of hope, 'Oh... thank you Playername. Thank you so much. Please, please help me find my son.

Evil dialog option

You say, '*Anything*? If you want my help finding your son, you better be willing when I get back. I will want my 'payment', and you better not be all washed out with crying when I get it.'
Jeslyn looks up at you, her face contorts into utter despair as she grasps what you are demanding of her, 'I...' She begins to sob, 'Okay... Anything. You can do anything you want to me when you get back. Just please, find my son and bring him back to me.

Rescue Jeffy

Investigate the dead-end of the path to the south of Kelethin.

You hear giggling, but can not tell where it is coming from. This seems to be where Jeslyn said Jeffy always played.
You say, 'Come out Toots!'
A high feminine voice seems to echo around the forest. 'You seek Jeffy?' Girly giggling follows, 'I have him! You people think you are so smart! Coming back to your tree city after all these years. But not smarter than me!'
You say, 'Are you there Toots?'
The high pitched feminine voice responds, 'No! You are not getting him back. Unless... unless you want to play a game! Do you want to play a game?'
You say, 'Alright, let's play a game.'
A small fairy appears. 'Fine then! Come here, manling. Lets play a game!'

Toot (Greater Faydark  at -1410, 1256, 30  •) appears.

You say, 'Hail, Toot'
Toot says, 'I am Toot, and you are an interloper - but I love games. The rules will be simple, if you win you can have Jeffy. If I win, I get you. The rules are set. Do you still want to play?'
You say, 'I will play your game.'
Toot says, 'Of course you will!' Toot giggles uncontrollably, 'You will get three guesses. On the third wrong guess, or if you try to run away, I win and you are mine! Are you ready?'
You say, 'I am ready.'

Toot will pose one of several riddles:

  • Toot says, 'I am one of many, different and yet the same, free from life’s worry, most trouble and pain. Sitting, standing or horse riding I may pause, often with steely eyes and/or powerful jaws. Frozen in time, I can be quite ancient and old, posing in the stances of the brave and the bold. What am I?'
  • Toot says, 'I am the last thing you are likely to meet, on hands or knees, but not on your feet. Totally helpless to resist my sweet kisses, well practised my actions - my edge seldom misses. What am I?'
  • Toot says, 'I come in many colors, shapes and sizes. My purpose may take on many disguises. In life I could fly, and on air I may float. In the cold I warm some as if a thick coat. In sleep I might guide children to dream. Woman use me to make their house clean. Scholars fondle me to record their thought. Many will use me when laughter is sought. What am I?'
  • Toot says, 'We are the many, yet all part of the one, we live for the light, we live for the sun. All of us are different and yet the same, the coldness of winter our life does claim. We start near the top usually quite high, then sink to the gutter when its time to die. We stick together when young and bold, then abandon our friends when we grow old. What are we?'
  • Toot says, 'Usually dark until the light I await the thief in the night. Quiet and still I will often hide My mouth is wide from side to side My purpose is usually very deep Those I do catch I can usually keep. What am I?'

Respond to Toots riddle with the correct answer.

Toot says, 'That... is... correct. I... I lost? I... Fine! Take the stupid boy. I did not even want him anyway.' Toot vanishes with an angry woosh.'
