Experience
Colloquially known as XP or EXP, experience measures a character's progress. Common methods of gaining experience include slaying monsters and completing quests.
Upon accruing enough experience, a character will "level up," potentially unlocking new abilities, spells, and other content unavailable at previous levels. Some levels are milestones for certain classes, such as a Beastlord attaining his first pet at level 9, or a Wizard's teleportation spells expanding to include group members at level 29.
Experience Modifiers
Experience can be subject to many modifiers, including bonuses for hunting in a new area, being part of a group, or playing during a special occasion (e.g., Christmastime). New area bonus eventually degrades into an old area penalty if the player lingers for too long in the comfort of a single zone. Area bonuses and penalties reset upon reaching level 30, 50 and 65, reverting to a 100% experience bonus in all zones. At 65, the area modifier can be reset based on how much AA or tome experience one has gained.
Group experience bonuses are 50% for 3 characters, 100% for 4, 150% for 5, 200% for 6. This means that a party of 2 receives the same amount of experience per kill as a party of 6. Because of this, having a full group is usually the optimal setup, unless special loot considerations are in play.
