Cleric Tips and Tricks
Soloing
Cleric effectively may solo with the potency of a Magician's damaging nukes, plate mail armor for good Armor Class, and Spell: Zealot's Strike. Spell: Root makes soloing possible.
Spell: Strike, Spell: Furor, and Spell: Smite up to level 20 are the least efficient damaging nukes in the game. You will find your character in Meditate for a large length of time, so melee grows as part of your approach. The problem involves a failing Spell: Root, so you will spend easily half of your mana with NO win in your fight. If you focus on your healing spells, then you will NOT win. Spell: Zealot's Strike is for casting fast, if your Spell: Root breaks. If you spend all your mana on nuking, you may lose a fight. Playing a Wizard makes more sense in that case, but you choose Cleric. If you only want to melee, then you should have a Paladin.
The point of Cleric is you get this really low health amount, but you may benefit from the best defense in the game. You need to use a shield, and Armor Class alone obviously is not going to win versus your opponent. You do not need to run away, but you pay for that with your mana expensive nukes. You may finish a fight quickly and still benefit from your shield.
Spell: Ward Undead and Spell: Expulse Undead help your offensive mana efficiency by a large measure, while some Undead will Resist Spell: Strike, Spell: Furor, and Spell: Smite completely. You may find your self casting spells against an Undead opponent more than other monsters to nearly NOT going in to a melee fight at one.
