Chunk of Balagan

I moved your note to the discussion page, Talk:Chunk of Balagan, so I'm removing from the article again. You might want to start a thread on the forums about this item if you're concerned about the instrument modifier not taking effect, but that's how ammo slot items work. I agree it's silly, but the item's article isn't the place to address it. - Rari Talk 07:09, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

In response to your email: It's well known that worn effects don't work in ammo slot, and this issue is certainly not unique to this item. Not to repeat myself, but if you have an issue with this, please take it up on the forums. I understand that you're just trying to warn your fellow bards, but do it on the forums? Your comment is out of place on this article page. Also, for the future, please just use talk pages for discussions like this, not emails; it's a lot easier to keep the discussion in one place, especially in case another editor might want to comment. Save emails for times when you can't get ahold of me (I usually answer on talk pages within 12 - 24 hours at most.) - Rari Talk 14:14, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

As I said in the email, my intent in posting a comment to the article was not to take up the issue of the broken-ness of the item's effect. You are correct in that the forums are the most appropriate place for that. However, as I stated in my email, many articles have comments in them answering FAQ-type questions. Before I ran into this item, I had heard that AMMO slots were not counted, but the fact that the item had the effect made me question the universality of that hearsay. I think a comment describing my encounter with the item so that other bards who may have the same question can rest easy.

Just because one person (you) find that that the information isn't useful, because you are already well-aware of the AMMO slot functionality, does NOT mean that the information is not useful to others. As such, I'd like to leave a useful comment in a way that does not appear to be taking up issue with the effect. Perhaps, something like "Reminder: AMMO slot effects don't count. For more information on the Wind Instrument modifier on this item, see <forum article link>" (Such a comment IS useful, by the way... look at Fomelo, as it is a good example of something that displays that reminder. The problem with Fomelo is that you have to have the item equipped or know somebody who does to get that information. The wiki can help display that information if the player does not have the item or know somebody who does. This could even be extended so that all AMMO slot items with effects will display a similar reminder to unaware players).

Ok, now there's a note, similar to what is found on fomelo. But your arguments about how it's "ok" because you see stuff like it elsewhere? Sorry, I just can't stand personalized comments on article pages and I've been working really hard to standardize things and take strats down (as per official policy), and because I might not have fixed everything yet doesn't make it a free-for-all. But there is a note now. - Rari Talk 14:46, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Understandable, but the point of a wiki is to add information from personalized sources. The information presented should certainly not be personal (opinions, etc.), but they can come from personalized sources (they must, after all, by definition of wiki). I appreciate the added note. It achieves my original intent. Two further things to consider:

1. You may want to consider that people may at some point want to be able to add notes that answer questions about specific items, npcs, etc. You can't police them all, so you may want to make a standardized section for those sorts of things. If they are stupid, or whatever, they are at least limited to a single isolated section, that is easier to be policed by all wiki contributors.
2. Can you consider being more explicit in the AMMO slot note, for clarity? Something like "Stats, modifiers, and effects on items in the AMMO slot are not counted" (this is very clear, even for somebody whose first language isn't english, while the previous version might still be a bit confusing).
