Your journal has been updated. [Go Ask Alice]

Travel deeper into the tunnels and begin killing various robots and servbots. After fighting these for some time, you will receive a Strange Beeping Board in your inventory.

Note: At first these robots will con dubious to you and will take quite a few kills before they become KoS.

Return to Alice and hand her the board.

You reach forward and carefully attach the beeing board to a small port behind Alice's neck. For a moment, nothing happens. Then, slowly, Alice begins to move.
Alice's voice rattles out, 'This unit is.. this..' ..*Clunk*.. 'This.. Alice.' Suddenly, her demeanor changes. Alice comes to life: *Pause*.. 'Visualization: <Player Race>..' *Ping*.. 'I.. am Alice. Restoring definitions.' ..*Whirr*.. 'Recognized: The Scrap Heap. Recognized: ServBot. Inspecting.' She turns her eyes to you. 'You have enabled access to my priot definitions, you are my Definer and you have my gratitude.' Alice looks at you expectantly.
You say, 'Hail, Alice'
Alice comes to life: *Crunch*.. 'Characteristic: Dark Elf..' *Ping*.. 'I recognize you, Definer. What is your question?' Alice looks at you expectantly.
You say, 'What did you mean when you said to update status?'
Alice comes to life: *Pause*.. 'Characteristic: Dark Elf..' *Crunch*.. 'That information is lost... or blocked, Definer. I assume I am here because I was no longer able to complete the task I was assigned. The earliest image I have stored is of this very room with this very view. The peons, myself, the bridges, the water, a strange box, these mysterious trees, and so forth.' Alice looks at you expectantly.
You say, 'Did you say something about a box?'
Alice comes to life: *Whirr*.. 'Contextualizing: Dark Elf..' *Pause*.. 'Yes, Definer.' Alice produces a sturdy box with sparse markings, 'This container was beneath me in my earliest memory. Its purpose is not known to me. Its origin is not known to me. If I was assigned to investigate or utilize this box in some manner, that instruction was purged prior to my arrival in the Scrap Heap.' Alice looks at you expectantly.
You say, 'May I investigate the box?'
Alice comes to life: *Click*.. 'Verified: Dark Elf..' *Click*.. 'Of course, Definer. If this box is relevant to my mission, I must have more information about it. It must not be harmed or lost as it is the only link to my task.' Alice looks at you expectantly.

You receive Mysterious Box.

Alice comes to life: *Crunch*.. 'Contextualizing: Dark Elf..' *Whirr*.. 'An image fragment containing this box also contains five colors: Red, Blue, Green, Gold, and Black. I cannot perceive an order or pattern to the colors. I do not understand the relevance of this image.' Alice looks at you expectantly.

Control Rods

Continue exploring the caves until you come across Servbot Access Monitor (The Scrap Heap  •) .

The enormous machine scans you and buzzes irritably... 'Control Rods Not Located. Entrance Denied To Entity.'

Your journal has been updated. [Go Ask Alice].

Return to Alice.

You say, 'Hail, Alice'
Alice comes to life: *Crunch*.. 'Recognizing: Dark Elf..' *Crunch*.. 'If the answer to this puzzle exists, it must be hidden in the depths of the Scrap Heap. I await your return, Definer.' Alice looks at you expectantly.
You say, 'Do you know anything about Control Rods?'
Alice comes to life: *Click*.. 'Characteristic: Dark Elf..' *Pause*.. 'I will scan my new memories.' .. *Whirr* .. 'Control Rod: Simple Construction involving a colored widget and a sturdy obsidian rod.' Alice looks at you expectantly.

Continue killing robots until you've looted 5 obsidian rods and 1 widget of each color Alice mentioned, and combine 1 rod with each widget. Return to the Servbot Access Monitor once you've gotten your control rods.

The enormous machine scans you and bleeps assuringly... 'Control Rods Located. Entity May Pass To Encryption Generator.'
You say, 'Hail, Servbot Access Monitor'
The enormous machine whirrs efficiently... 'Control Rods Found. Confirm Temporary Repulsor Deactivation.'
You say, 'Confirm deactivation.'
The enormous machine powers down temporarily.
You say, 'What are these control rods?'
The enormous machine croaks mechanically: 'Activate Observer Information Retrieval To Access Recorded Testimony. Request Authorization Phrase Follows: "Information Update Alpha One Three.'
Note: The authorization phrase is blacked out because it has not been consistent from person to person. Be sure to use the one given to you.

Puzzle 1: The Servbot Code

The next step requires you to visit several servbot observer in the zone and repeat your Authorization Phrase to them. This will trigger a recording to play back to you.

Note: If you revisit the same observer twice, it will tell you the recording has already played. You must kill these and then revisit them for a new recording.
A mechanical voice, obviously recorded, emanates from within the observer: "...make sure you align the rods perfectly. No, you fool! You'll cause a short! AAaagghh..." The transmission fades out.
A mechanical voice, obviously recorded, emanates from within the observer: "...pathetic, really. Oh, no well I suppose it can't be helped. After all, she's not even really..." The transmission fades out.
A mechanical voice, obviously recorded, emanates from within the observer: "...all done this before. If you want to join the Order, you have to pick up the wrench with..." The transmission fades out.
A mechanical voice, obviously recorded, emanates from within the observer: "..permission for further studies you must recall the order. You have all five control rods, that's important! But how you use them is even more important. See? It's that simple! Now..." The transmission fades out.
