Races - All races have low CHA which is needed for landing spells (slow!), it is also a much harder stat to obtain from gear, recommended to put all points into CHA for all races. Barbarian – White Wolf

  • Balanced Stats
  • Shorter stuns/fears
  • Bad vision, but get vision spells
  • “Bad” Starting Zone, no MOP, not many other players

Iksar – Scaled Wolf

  • Balanced Stats
  • Robe Graphic
  • Great AC Bonus (+~45 at lv65)
  • Fear Resistance
  • Levels slower (-2.5% xp) than other races
  • Starting Zone is hard, but big xp bonus

Ogre – Brown Bear

  • Strong Melee stats, Weak Caster
  • Shorter stuns/fears

Troll - Alligator

  • Strong Melee stats, Weak caster
  • Shorter stuns/fears
  • -20 FR (only a draw back in some raiding zones)
  • Starting Zone is hard, but big xp bonus

Vah - Tiger

  • Balanced stats
  • +Atk at night
  • No Night Heal penalty (-5% for others)

Boxes for Duo The “Easy” boxes

  • Druid – Many people’s #1 box, a druid brings great buffs (+hp, DS, resists, SOW), ports, tracking, great healing, and can still dish out some damage from dots or nukes. For a new player the ability to port around and track quest mobs is a huge time saver.
  • Cleric – A very close 2nd, no variety in buffs like druid/shaman, but brings the best hp buffs and the best healing. Can also pack a punch with melee damage once they get the hammer at 60.
  • Shaman – Best buffer of the 3 with great stats/hp/sow, can’t heal as well a cleric or druid but can heal forever with canni. Also gets great dots for damage, Malo to lower resists and can slow mobs better than the beastlord.

The “Hard” boxes

  • Wizard – Awesome burst DPS with cunning, blades proc adds a bit more damage for the beastlord, can root/snare extra mobs and ports are always great. At 65+ it’s hard to duo for xp due to a lack of healing.
  • Necromancer – Great dps with cunning, a 2nd pet, fear/snare/root/mez for CC, can heal the beastlord a little bit, and can FD self and others.
  • Magician – Better dps than wizards when leveling from the extra pet, summoned items are nice for pets, dots for Savagery, DS, unfortunately lacks anytime of CC ability until 60+ and even then it does not last very long. Similar problem at 65+ as the wizard, weak on healing.
  • Enchanter – Not as much dps as the other 3 even with the pet, but has mana regen/haste buffs, can root/mez any extra mobs to make sure all your fights go smoothly. Can rune instead of healing but you’ll need a lot of summoned regents.
  • Everything else (Monk, Rogue, Warrior, Ranger, Shadow Knight, Paladin) Not suggested since most of them get very little utility or healing. Paladin is decent at the very high end once they can heal themselves really well but while leveling this isnt the case.

General

  • Tips
  • Useful hotkeys - each / is the beginning of a new line
    • /pet hold /alt activate 176 it will make your pet stop attacking and once you have the AAs, recall it to you dropping its agro
    • /pet back /pet follow /pet attack This will make your pet stop attacking, follow you, and then attack your target. It will spam you, but is also the easiest way to make your pet switch targets (/pet back) or break hold (/pet follow) and attack you all in 1 hotkey.
    • /g INC Cunning on %T /rs INC Cunning on %T /pause 10 /cast # (#=spell gem slot for cunning) This will announce to your group & raid that you are casting cunning on your current target (%T), then wait a few seconds, and cast it. Can also be copied for Savagery just change the cast # and what you say.

Grouping – You main jobs in a group are going to be DPS, slowing, and keeping your buffs up. Make sure you are assisting the tank (/assist NAME) and have assist attack off (/assist off), this way when you assist the tank on a mezzed target you automatically don’t start attacking and break it early. You also want to make sure that all of the mobs are slowed, wait until the tank has solid agro (5-10 seconds typically) to slow or else you might steal agro off them. During a multi-pull make sure you slow all of the adds, starting with the tanks first target. Your buffs for a group will typically be a Spiritual lines, one adds mp/hp regen and the other adds hp/atk, Cunning (+spell dmg/-aggression) it’s best to make a hotkey for Cunning that warns the group you are casting it so that tank can click it off since it lowers their agro, and savagery if you have dots. Sometimes your group won’t have an enchanter/shaman and it will be your job to haste as well. Some areas will have mobs with a DS and if no one else can, beastlord have the ability to dispel magic and take it off. Raiding – Pretty similar to grouping, assist the tank, kill stuff. On bosses help slow until you see the Shaman say theirs landed.

  • Savagery should be cast on rogues->rangers->monks->self. On some fights the strategy will call for 1 player to have very high resists, casting a Savagery on this player gives them +50 resist all which is incredibly helpful. You should be able to juggle keeping it up on 2 targets almost all of the time (6minute duration, 3minute cool down), with some Duration Inc focus or the duration AA it will become very easy to keep it on 2 targets. With Duration 7 and the AA it is possible to keep it on 3 targets constantly (lasts 9minutes, 3 minute cool down).
  • Most raids will be set up so that the casters are in 1 group, this should be the group you cast cunning on. Whenever you cast cunning DO NOT change targets until the buff has landed or else it will land on whatever target you have when the cast is finished making you buff the wrong group. Try to keep your pet healed up, if having problems ask a healer if they can help watch him if the tank doesn’t need to much healing, a dead pet is 0 dps.

Leveling – Where to level (link to guide). A few zones will be mentioned specifically for drops/quests.

  • 1 to 8 Go out and beat stuff with your fists, not much else you can do. Try to take 1 mob at a time and heal between each.
    • Train kick at 5
  • Start saving extra money to buy a mithril Claw (primary) and
  • 9 to 14 Finally got your pet and its amazing. Important spells to buy are Spirit of Sharik (pet), Shariks Replenishment (pet heal), Minor healing (heal), Inner Fire (hp buff), Flash of Light (blind, good for agro).
    • Typically fights will be you+pet attacking until it dies with you healing during the fight if needed. Inner fire will also heal you every time it is cast, so it can be used as a cheaper substitute for minor healing but the cast time is 3 seconds instead of 1 so only use it after fights. I never found much use for cure disease or endure cold at low levels.
    • Make sure you train all of your casting skills at 9 (1pt into each), Dodge at 10, and Meditate at 12
  • 15 to 21 A few new spells here, Spirit of Lightning (pet proc), Blast of frost (DD), Fleeting Fury (short duration melee buff), Scale Skin (+AC), Strengthen (+STR) and Sicken (DoT), on top of upgrades for older spells (pet, pet heal)
    • Fights will pretty much continue as they did before, try to start off casting Blast of Frost, then Sicken as they run to you and melee them down, cast Fleeting fury if it is a hard mob but it will drain your mana fast if you keep it up constantly. Make sure to keep up your buffs (+AC, +STR, pet proc) on both yourself and your pet. The cast time of Blast of Frost makes it hard to get off during fights, add in that you probably have a very low channeling and evocation skill and its probably impossible to get off.
    • Train Dual Wield at 17
  • 22 to 29
  • 30 to 38
  • 39 to 48
  • 49 to 57
  • 58 to 64
  • 65+
