How to kill

Grikk is tough; he has a boat load of hitpoints and two DoTs. His weapon procs a disease and I believe he casts a poison DoT as well. Stacked they do approx 15-20 points a tick. I first attempted Grikk with a Cleric and two Monks. We only got him to 75%. Next run we had a Rogue, an SK, a Monk and two Clerics. Two members died but we won first attempt.

Suggestions

Have one tank take the agro right from the start. If you let Grikk bounce and DoT more than one party member you are toast. When he lands a DoT have a healer on cure duty. He doest hit hard at all. The only danger in this battle is it's duration and those nasty DoTs. His loot is exceptional for lvl 9s so I strongly recomend you make the effort and get a group of folks to band together to poke him. Aside from the extreme satisfaction of dropping his frog carcass you get some lvl 20-25ish type gear (which is all no drop).

Bottom line

Do not attempt Grikk without a full party. You will not kill him with two or three people. You simply won't have the HP or DPS to take him down regardless of how uber you are. A party of five, not really uber folks working together should take him down no prob. Updated 08/07/08: I just soloed him! See below.

Note: 4/27 Tryed Grikk with a 9 bst and a 9 Magican manged to drop him to 1% before dot finaly killed me. Came back with 3 necro that wanted in, and was no contests. He realy isn't difficult other then his dot. the Bst had 450hps and at 80% (around 375hps) that dot will kill you Seriously. The Dot is HUGE, easy way to take down is to chain summon pets into him, as he can't beat down the pets fast enof until he procs. When pet dies resummon and repeat. Loot is very nice for the level.
Note: 5/15/08 - Killed Grikk with a group of 4 (9 Cleric, 9 Magican, 8 Paladin, 9 Monk) on our first attempt. Sent cleric buffed/fire shield magican pet in to inniciate the fight and then had the paladin start attacking moments later to build agro. After mage pet died, our paladin held agro throughout the fight so Grikks’ Dot didn't bounce around. Cleric was full time healer and kept our tank above 40% HP at all times. We were able to drop him before mana became an issue.
Note: 8/07/08 - Killed Grikk solo, yes that's right, solo with my level nine beastlord, Torvak. His stats: 1259 HPS, 458 AC and 700-ish mana (not that mana would be a problem playing a low BST). It's important to have a companion strength focus effect item to increase your pet's damage, as well as give him a weapon with a high damage value. Strategy for soloing him: Summon pet, buff yourself. Send your pet in to tank him. Keep him healed as long as you can, do not engage in melee combat just yet. When your first pet dies summon a second pet, be sure to not attack Grikk. Repeat the same as previous for the second pet. Finally, after the second pet dies, summon your third and final pet. Now you can attack him! Get in his face and bash him all up. Use a mithril weapon to increase your DPS and your pet as a dot. Grikk should be around 65% when you actually attack him using this strategy. When he died I was about 15% health. His dots are the only nasty thing about him, so be ready to get a heal after the battle is over!
  • 3/9/10 - Killed him with a group of 4, on our second try. 9 SK/9 DRU (box), 9 BRD/9 SHM (box) all untwinked and in mostly vendor trash chain/leather. First time we didn't cure his DoTs, so we only got him to 40% before death. Second time, tank took aggro alone til 96%, then bard moved in with melee and CoD, and dru began heals. At 93% shaman tried to slow but it was resisted due to low cha. Then shaman had to help heal for a sec because the dru couldn't keep up with dmg from Grikk's DoT on the tank. Shaman went on cure duty then, tank saying when the DoT stuck, and shaman immediately curing it, with support heals in between. Shaman tried to slow again when Grikk's initial dps slowed down at like 60% or so, but it was resisted again, as was the DoT the shaman tried to land. Shaman stuck to cures/heals til Grikk died. The combined dps of bard/sk easily burned him down from 50%, sk using HT near the end just for fun. Fight ended with dru comfortably at 30% mana, and shm oom. Only the sk took any damage at all, never losing aggro. Most of Grikk's dps comes from his poison and disease DoTs, as long as you have a healer on cure duty, this fight is a joke. Really trivialize this fight with some decent disease and poison resist on tank.
