Strategy

BIG mammoth, all melee with the exception of a 10 pt dd/knockback proc. Lots of HP. He summons and hits for 50s

After 8-10 attempts, killed with a 30 ranger, 30 monk, 30 druid, and 29 necro. Druid and necro cast fear simultaneously while ranger kept him snared. Two melee's and necro pet dished out damage while necro tossed in a few dots. Dropped sleeves and earring. -  Finkk, Cilulizi, Zappo, Drynion   6/14/2007

It took us 4 attempts to successfully down him with a 30 paladin (tank), 30 monk, 30 druid, and a 30 shaman (all moderately geared). Slow was very unreliable to land without any sort of tash debuff, but when it did land it was extremely noticeable. Goretusk was immune to all snares and fears (above strategy will no longer work) and he was hitting the tank between 41-94 dmg per hit. The knockback is a very significant distance so positioning is key, he WILL knock the tank out of heal range if positioned poorly. He dropped three items: the earring, lance, and cape. -JarL (Nafein) 05/11/2007

Despite originally being deemed as a "suicide group", our group consisting of a 26 High Elf Cleric, 30 Human Mage, 30 Iksar Monk, 25 High Elf Pally, 29 Erudite Necro, and 28 Froglock Shaman killed GORETUSK on our third attempt. We just waited in GORETUSK'S path until he came to us, then the monk engaged first (avoided a majority of the hits), followed quickly by the pally and pets. Cleric concentrated on healing, shaman cast DoTs and healed, necro cast DoTs (but we know lifetaps work), and the mage kept nuking. GORETUSK proved immune to most everything other than DoTs, lifetaps, and some nukes. Once the epic battle was over, he dropped a Great Mammoth Tusk, Goretusk Hide Cloak, and and Goretusk Tooth Earring. Before the group dissolved, we celebrated with the slaughter of the local mammoth calves to reassert our victory over GORETUSK. -Verdat (along with Frona, Markuemada, Rudious, Aimaidrotas, and our courageous leader Lunid) 01/25/2010

As a side note for our experience in our suicide group, all pets were useless. Out of hundreds of attempts to hit, they probably hit a few times. And usually only for single digit results. They had good summoned weapons and were buffed as well. Markuemada our Monk proved a better tank than our kind Paladin Rudious. Mostly because of the excellent dodging capabilities and being able to FD when it was rough. I was Aimaidrotas, the 29 Necromancer. I noticed early in the first attempt that Goretusk is completely immune to snares and roots. And Dooming Darkness could not effect him either. But Boil Blood worked wonders. When we had him down to 5% I cast BB again and immediately sat down and started typing congratulations because BB would itself be enough to kill it at that point. Frona was our only healer, and was sadly out of mana quickly each try because we kept trying to use Rudious as the main tank. But plate armor is not as good as not being hit at all like our Monk Markuemada. Verdat and Lunid were the Magician and Shaman, but I forget who was what. It was a great suicide group. And much fun. Be certain to make a raid, rather than just a group like we did. The XP sucks as a group. And remember to be wary of the Frost Warriors if you are a Necromancer or something similar. Consider them before you get close if you are unsure. We had no adds or summons whatsoever. Some lesser mammoths walked past us during the fight, but did nothing. I was worried about summons, but I will say it again. There were no summons at all. :) Aimaidrotas The Necromantic Fisher 2010-01-25
