Find Ryhajin Kajek (The Mountain Crags of Tarhyl at 2120, -220, 637 • Shaman guildmaster on map.).

You say, 'Hail, Ryhajin Kajek'
Ryhajin Kajek tells you, 'Ah, <Player Name>, I was hoping I'd see you. Could you help me with something?'
You say, 'Certainly. What has to be done?'
Ryhajin Kajek tells you, 'Do you know anything about the plague that ravages the lands to the northwest of here?'
You say, 'Yes, the danger is common knowledge to us.'
Ryhajin presses one ear out and flicks the other at you. 'Not to me! I've got to do something to help! I can't leave this camp, so will you be my hand in the north? Please, go speak with the leader of the plague survivors. Learn what you can about the plague from him.'

Find Leader Dannisin (Eastern Plaguelands  at -1522, -118  • In the the tunnel to the Northern Wastes of Tarhyl) .

You say, 'A man named Ryhajin Kajek sent me to ask you about the plague.'
Leader Dannisin says, 'Ryhajin? Or Kajek, for that matter--I've never heard of either name. Who is he, what did he want to know, and why?'
You say, 'He's a shaman, he wanted to know everything you knew, and he wants to help. He only recently arrived here and didn't even know the plague existed until a few days ago.'
Leader Dannisin says, 'It's a stretch to ask me to trust a man I've never met, but I will share what I can. Any chance at help is worth the risk.' Dannisin spends a lot of time writing down his thoughts on a crumpled leaf of old paper. After a long time, he hands it to you. 'Take this back to Ryhajin. I fear I don't know much, but I've been searching for help in studying the disease, so perhaps soon I will know more.'

You say, '-Hand Ryhajin the note.-'
Ryhajin reads over the note carefully. 'Not much... but a good start. I think I shall need one of these plagued vials he makes mention of. The note also says he was working on an antidote, but needed some assistance. You should help him finish it, then bring it to me along with one of the same vials he will need. An antidote is not a cure, but we can do better.' Seeing your expression, he flicks an ear at you. 'Where Dannisin failed, we may succeed--I have knowledge that has apparently long since passed from the world.'

Gather and give Ryhajin Kajek:

  • Dannison's Plague Cure
  • Vial of Diseased Filth
Ryhajin studies the vial for long time, pouring bits of it out and applying the antidote to them, then taking notes. He mutters frequently to himself, and each time the mutter is lower, angrier, more hopeless. Eventually he straightens, shaking his head. 'There is no way to cure the disease once it has taken root. Not all hope is lost, but the solution we must use is a difficult one, and will require many esoteric components.' Ryhajin motions at a list he'd prepared. 'There is a... sort of almost-cure-all known to my people. It operates by regressing any disease it finds, reverting it back to the moment of infection. In this case, to early enough to be solved with Dannisin's antidote.'

Ryhajin Kajek returned Dannisin's Antidote to you.

You say, 'What will I need?'
Ryhajin Kajek tells you, 'While I'm sure we could get what we needed from mundane sources, it would take me too long to learn where to find it, and my own knowledge is hopelessly outdated. Find the minions of water, near the plane's anchor in Kedge Keep. Take from there four samples of the salves carried by the fishmen, along with some of the more sophisticated medicine carried by the lord of the place. Then go to the plane of earth and find four samples of Sihala's salve. While we don't need those salves directly, I can distill them down to their component pieces and retrieve what we *do* need.'

Your journal has been updated. [Deaf Leading the Blind]

You say, 'What should I do if I don't want to harm Sihala's minions?'
Ryhajin's ears push sideways. 'I didn't say to *kill* them, <Player Name>, I just said to get the salve. Did it occur to you that you could simply *ask* for it?'

Gather and give Ryhajin Kajek:

  • Salve of Sihala x 4
  • Salve of Tarhansar x 4
  • Medicine of Tarhansar
Ryhajin works with the salves for a long time, beginning by boiling the excess material away. He then takes the flakes that are left and grinds them in a pestle, then pours in a few unidentifiable liquids. He heats the entire mixture over a flame and, five minutes later, gives you the result. "Take this, [Character Name], and sail swift to Dannison. His people need this badly."

You receive Ryhajin's Cure from Ryhajin Kajek.

Return to Leader Dannisin with the cure.

Leader Dannisin says, 'Mesklin has volunteered to be the first to try the cure.' Dannisin motions to the other plagued man. 'And [Character Name]... Don't be too hard on yourself or Ryhajin if this doesn't work. Many have tried and failed to cure the plague.'

Return to Ryhajin Kajek

Ryhajin says 'MISSING TEXT... will know how to undo the magic strengthening it. If he does not, he'll have to ask for outside help. Learn what you can, but be careful. Return to me if you need another vial.'

You receive Vial of Plague from Ryhajin Kajek.

MISSING TEXT

Gather and give Lasanth's Heart to Ryhajin Kajek.

You receive Kajek Banner from Ryhajin Kajek.

You say, 'Not everyone shies away from hard truths, Ryhajin. You may want to forget about what happened in the caves, and that's your choice, but these men deserve to know the truth about themselves.'
Ryhajin studies the heart for a long time. His ears lay flat back all the while, and eventually he heaves a great sigh and leans back. '... those men are dead, [Player Name]. Dannisin, Mesklin, all of them died not long after the disease infected them. The plague itself is the only life inside their bodies, and any cure of it will kill them. The regression worked corrected, but I was only pulling them towards the point of infection -- their deaths. Nothing can ever be done for them. [Player Name]...' Ryhajin looks down. 'I would ask that you keep this from them. This knowledge would drive them to death or to service of the plague, and I cannot have that on my conscience. We may not be able to save them, but we can at least do them this kindness. I know you have been looking for banners, and in honesty I would have given you mine freely, but I consider it the price of your silence instead.'

You have completed a quest. Deaf Leading the Blind

Ryhajin Kajek tells you, 'Those poor people... if only we could have done something.' Ryhajin sighs, 'Still, accepting death is part of being alive, and doubly part of being healer. We must be prepared for it. I saw plenty back home. I'm no stranger to it.'
