Find Vingrin the Tinkerer (Steamfont Mountains  • Southeast corner of the zone near the Clockwork Dragon) .

You say, 'Hail, Vingrin the Tinkerer'
Vingrin the Tinkerer says, 'My greeting! I am Vingrin the Tinkerer, and the magnificent [Clockwork Dragon] here is my creation.'
You say, 'The what?'
Vingrin the Tinkerer says, 'Oh, yes. It is quite a marvel, is it not? I made it to protect Underhill from all attackers, and the entire casing is complete... but... I am in fact lacking a few [vital components] to finish my creation.'
You say, 'What are the vital components you lack?'
Vingrin the Tinkerer says, 'Specifically, there are four items I need in order to give the Clockwork Dragon life. I could just program it like any clockwork... but I don't feel it's sufficent for such a grand metallic beast to have a simple one-track mind. If I could somehow get ahold of... well, for starters, the Eye Stalk of some kind of magical, watchful being. This would imbue it with proper sight. I would also need a Heart for it... from something draconic, a wyvern possibly. Don't they live on a coast somewhere? A brain of an actual sentient clockwork would be needed too, but there's only been one of those ever designed, and it was given to the rebellious Coordinator that took over the Steamfont Mountains Mines. Finally, I just need a scroll of Yegoreff's Animation to bring it to life. Getting all of these seems like a hopeless endeavour, I'm sure... hey. Maybe you'd be willing to [help out]?' You say, 'Um sure, I guess I can'
Vingrin the Tinkerer says, 'Grand! I will just wait here then, and you go and get me the items I need. I'll have something nice for you once it's done I'm sure.

Gather and give Vingrin the Tinkerer:

  • Clockwork Brain
  • Yaralith's Eye Stalk
  • Wyvern Heart
  • Spell: Vingrin's Animation
Vingrin the Tinkerer says, 'Amazing! You did it... alright! Let's test this!'
Clockwork Dragon comes to life with a roar and attacks Vingrin!
Vingrin the Tinkerer shouts, 'Ahh! Help! Save me!' Vingrin the Tinkerer shouts, 'The Clockwork Dragon is loose! Hide! Yeeaugh!'

Kill the Clockwork Dragon!

Note: If the Clockwork Dragon kills Vingrin the Tinkerer, you will need to recollect and turn in the items again! Pulling him away from Vingrin is highly suggested.
Vingrin the Tinkerer shouts, 'Oh thank the skies. The brave adventurer has put an end to the Clockwork Dragon. Adventurer! Return here!'
You say, 'Hail, Vingrin the Tinkerer'
Vingrin the Tinkerer says, 'I... I thank you, adventurer. You did well, very well. I... am going to get off projects like this, I'm not sure WHAT I was thinking. You saved my life, and likely that of many other gnomes as well. I can never thank you enough, but... take this. It is the wand I used to bring the Dragon to life. I need to get rid of it, and I'm sure you can find a use for it.'

You receive Vingrin's Wand of Animation from Vingrin the Tinkerer.

You gain 8000 experience!!
