New item template feedback

Please leave all feedback for the new item templates here. - Rari Talk 18:41, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Im gonna wait with editing the rest of the poisons untill you've decided what you want to do about the little problem with the (poison effect) tags. Laurane 05:26, 6 November 2009 (UTC)'

Got it working before, it just wasn't showing up for some reason (and I was doing the event for my last Marlow aug, so I couldn't be buggered to figure out why at the time!) Do Poison name poison effect (without parenthesis) and it should work properly. (Edit: if you want to do the effect pages like that for now, they can be put into the proper format later. My spell parser isn't working at the moment anyway.) - Rari Talk 05:55, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Just noticed a small bug with poisons (and possibly other items), Example link: Lesser Cripple
Even with reclvl set they are still showing as members of Category:Items_without_recommended_level. - Laurane 16:45, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Items should properly categorize into Category:Items without recommended level and Category:Items with recommended level now. Good catch. (Some might not automatically revert, might be a few days.) - Rari Talk 17:07, 7 November 2009 (UTC)

Think god

Sewww that was hard just to find contact page and how to contact you directly, anyways am having a bit of trouble figuring out how to edit pages that have sub catagorys just have an idea that id like to try and save before publishing id like to start a sub catagory in the sub catagory equipment by class. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Krujo (talk).

Give the category the name you want on the page. Then click on the category link at the bottom of the page once you save it, hit edit on the new sub category and add then save it. - Rari Talk 05:50, 17 October 2009 (UTC)

Krujo 19:33, 17 October 2009 (UTC) Your right Still confused about all this stuff, but yeah i completely missed those sections, however once i figure out how this map system works id like to make a write up on how to add locations to npc's/ground spawns via map file for that zone I have experimented with it a lil bit but the mark came up out side the boundaries of the zone gotta study the loc system better =/. well hope i did this right this time if I didn't am sorry ill still try to learn how all this works

Just toss ~~~~ (four tildes) at the end of your comments to sign them. Hold shift, and press the button to the left of 1 and under Esc on your keyboard ;) I can play around with that idea in a bit and see what I can come up with, see if I can be of any help. That sounds like fun! - Rari Talk 23:22, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Why remove loot?

Rari, why did you remove all the loot tables? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Allislove (talk).

Because there was a technical problem with the extension we use for it. And they weren't removed - just some were disabled. Should be functional now. *Edit: However, as the HUGE SITE NOTICE might indicate, there may be other item-related issues on the wiki for the next few months, at least, while the new templates are installed on item pages - Rari Talk 23:05, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Silver Crown Trading Company Quests - Freeport

Hello Rari,

I created / edited some Silver Crown Trading Company quests (and quest items) for Sergeant's rang.

I found a quest "The Freeport Constitution" around Recovery Officer Janson, that seems no longer valid. The quest text and the options are way different from what I got when I did my quest turn ins. I'd suggest to check that quest and probably delete it please.

Greetings, Duvinya

Hello Duvinya, and thank you very much for contributing to the wiki. I am definitely aware of both Freeport City Documents and The Freeport Constitution; both of these are archived quest pages, from the time before Silver Crown quests in Freeport. That's what the little marker at the top of them says. I generally don't delete whole pages just for being old content. - Rari Talk 18:36, 14 November 2009 (UTC)

Named NPC: Fnag Rotblade

Hi Rari,

I'm not sure where to post this on your talk page, I don't find a genereal section active. I hope you will read this.

Here is just a hint to a minor edit I can't do. The named NPC in East Plagueland is not "Fnag the Rotblade" but "Fnag Rotblade".

Greetings, Duvinya

Duvinya, I'm not sure where you're still seeing an instance of "Fnag the Rotblade" - I'm only finding "Fnag Rotblade." Unless you said that backwards? - Rari Talk 17:22, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
I made a posting and it was added here, so I edited and deleted the add. This might be the reason this was active again. Sorry for this. Duvinya 17:41, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Heatland Plateau

I edited a bit on Heartland Plateau Page and moved NPC's and mobs to the appropriate sections.

On NPC's list are 2 mobs left: "A shade prawler" does not exist, it's "a shade prowler" (correct entry is there). "An ancient guardien" is there twice, once with the add (Heartland Plateau), shade prawler and 2nd guardian seem no longer necessary to me.

At "A Silver Crown cook" is a typo at title, should be "Cook". Duvinya 17:56, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Re: Spells

Had some free time and almost have the new wiki spell parser working. This time it translates everything into better english, and other such nonesense. Should also captures icons data. I need a format to output it into... do we have that finalized yet? Get back to me asap via this page.-Tyrsell 21:11, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

That's so exciting! I just slipped the code in for images to appear next to "Additional notes" in Template:Spelltable, and updated the documentation, so it should match up with actual use now. Images are using the same format as Listspell (User:Rari/Spellbook images). If you need anything, just let me know - Rari Talk 22:09, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

It never comes up, but technically there are 12 slots. May as well have the template reflect that just in case. -Tyrsell 22:17, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Oops! Forgot about that one, updated the documentation. I'd already figured that out doing spells by hand, slots 1-12 are supported in the template- Rari Talk 22:21, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Are the icons in the wiki/labeled properly? I have to or 3 potential 'icons' and I'm not sure which are which. -Tyrsell 22:27, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Correct is a matter of perspective. The listing for images in the Spellbook images link is a little confusing when the second set of digits are single. All you'll be adding to image= is # ##. So if you wanted to use Spells01 01.gif, the image is named Image:Spells01 01.gif, so image = 1 01. - Rari Talk 22:33, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Doesn't sound like that will trasnslate easily... I'll see what I can do. Did you want Spell Type in the template? I didn't notice it there, but can easily extract its beneficial status.-Tyrsell 22:39, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

I am so fail today; it's been in the template, it's in the doc now. My docs are so messy, blah. Input of Beneficial or Detrimental will change the color of the cell. :D - Rari Talk 22:43, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

If we want this working 'right' we need to find the official mapping of icons to image numbers, or figure out some math to have my parser adjust to our numberings. Thoughts? Will be available for IRC commentary in about 40 min or so. -Tyrsell 22:51, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

If we can get a readout for ones we have referenced already (Bard would work well) to start with, I could see if we can find any kind of correlation. The only order of organization I had to go by when I uploaded them were position and filename. - Rari Talk 22:54, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok posted a bunch in User:Tyrsell/sandbox2 -Tyrsell 22:59, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Found the pattern. Icons are now auto extracted properly. -Tyrsell 16:24, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

<3- Rari Talk 16:36, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Thinking about doing anything fancy that might require the spell name in the template? Adding anything is trivial at this point after all. -Tyrsell 16:47, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Also what should duration and aeduration default to if they don't exist? I forgot -Tyrsell 16:50, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Should be 0 for both. The template handles 0 as Instant for duration iirc. - Rari Talk 16:53, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Ok I'm adding name to the spell template, just cuz I could see it being useful information to have. After that, if there are no further complaints, I'll start transferring it all in. Would be cool to get the icons on the class spell page (the listing of all a classes spells) automatically, but I'll leave that sorta magic to you. -Tyrsell 15:31, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, having extra information (name) won't hurt anyone. Once we have the image information on the spell pages, I should be able to recode the image parameter I added to listitem Spell and listitem SpellBard to pull it from there, and that'll save a fuckton of work that I had started to do but never had the patience or resources to finish. Before it becomes an issue, just wanted to mention you might want to keep an eye out for items/spells with the same name. afaik, most of those have "Effect" at the end, which is yay, but I don't believe all of them do. - Rari Talk 16:25, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

hrmm

Changing some items on War Scholars to the new template, but they appear to be not adding correctly to the loot list for the encounter. Kind of a wiki noob here, what did I screw up?

In any case, it's probably something minor. Going to swap the other items over to the new template, if nothing else it saves you the drudgework. Aisling 03:02, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Aisling

I went to flush / resave Category:Dropped_by_The_War_Scholars and found that it was missing,
so I added the page and now all the loot you edited is showing up on The War Scholars. :) Laurane 06:55, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
You two made me smile; it's always nice to wake up to problems being solved. Adding DPLitemslist to many of the new categories created by the new item template is necessary, I'm afraid. There were "easier" ways to make that functionality work, but none so accurate. - Rari Talk 16:34, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Good times, I'll finish up that later tonight and add some more if I get a chance. Aisling 20:05, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Aisling

New template for tailored items - trivial flag

I started to change tradeskilled items (shadowsilk armor atm) to new template.

When using the trivial flag, it shows "Trivial for 1" in the info box, the number is red colored. Is this working as intended? Duvinya 10:58, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

tradeskilled= isn't a flag per se. You need to have these parameters on tradeskilled items: recipe, trivial, tradeskilled. I'll give you an example (using Shadow Silk Wristband as an example)
|recipe = Shadow Silk Swatch + Wrist Pattern + Violet Ointment
|trivial = 250+
|tradeskilled = Tailoring
Also, please use camel case for slot parameters: should be Wrist not wrist. - Rari Talk 11:10, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, will edit the other pages I changed. Duvinya 11:40, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Fixed recipe for Imp Hide Tunic to 3 hides, that's the correct number; asked someone who is crafting them regularly. Duvinya 18:51, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Comments on quest template

Hello Rari thank you for your support. I see you have just changed dungeon dwellers quest-line in Grand library and would like to comment. I completely agree that most if not all wiki pages should follow a template, but the way you are formatted that particular quest is not very user friendly in my opinion. There was hardly 20 lines of text on 1 page containing all of quest information including what and where you needed to acquire. With current editing I have to click on items on the side and hopefully figure out whats what. Plus I do not see a purpose of splinting that quest to multiple pages. Its a very straight forward fetch quest. What do you think? Also the same comment on Tylazik's Remains's quest what have become of my original write up is awful. I have done this quest two times myself and now doing third and I get confused whats what due to this template.

I also would like to note that including all of the quest dialog in the wiki is not something I want to see when looking up a quest on this resource and in my opinion should be removed unless required to clarify something. For instance if someone would ever actually do a write up on vah all they spam they give that would take up way too many pages.

Please let me know --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Drotic (talk).

Alright, first of all, please sign your comments with ~~~~, and add new talk page subjects to the bottom of the page. Dungeon Dwellers was split into three parts because of the reward structure. Item drop information belongs on the item pages, not on the quest pages - I already leaned a little on that with the "other zones" portion of the quest infobox. Quest pages are meant to give information on the quest obviously, but they need to be able to provide that information without being any more "go here, get this, go here, hand in this, get phats" than they already are. If you want to look at a quest page, you should be able to do so without getting slapped in the face with a complete spoiler run down.
As for the Tylazik's Remains's quest page, that article was and still is awful, and will remain so until we get the actual names for things and the full quest dialog. As for the idea of no quest dialog, I understand what you want, but no, never. - Rari Talk 13:08, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

thank you for reply Rari. I have no idea how to sign things or add talk pages to the bottom of the page. Apologies. Dungeon Dwellers separtion understood. Regarding straight forward spoiler walkthrough understood Tylazik's Remains's quest - agreed maybe my walkthrough was lost in the move I don't know. In current form it is awfull. agreed. Quest dialog - understood.

Maybe what I am really looking for is a place to discuss from what mob where particular quest item drops and other helpful tips. As is now I mostly see in all of the quests is dialogue then links to items in top link thing. Can we have a place where after the quest dialogue for specific step we include the info on how to obtain that particular quest item? Where should it be included? At the item link or quest text so it remains all the same through out? For example Dungeon Dwellers had that information prior to your edit. Basically I would like to understand vision of the quest template and what is and isn't suppose to be where and if it is where does it belong? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Drotic (talk).

Information on methods for obtaining an item should be on the item page, and those pages contain formatting to support it; many of the items that were added to the Dungeon Delver page had not been added to the wiki yet at all, and I used the information from that page, along with what I could find from other resources, to add them (at least partially.) At least one or two still had the wrong name given, and those appear as unknown item. The formatting for quests is meant to come as close to a balance as possible for serving the needs of both extremes: people who just want things handed to them, and those who just want a quick reference (say, the location of an NPC they need to speak with.)
As for Tylazik's Remains, the oldest copy we have can be found in that page's history,

ok thank you. I think I understand how you see it fit. will try to edit in the same style in the future. re Tylazik's Remains's quest that version actually does look like my walkthrough so woot. Thanks. I throught it was lost. By the way all the items from that quest are actually included there as well as npc names and stuff.
