Walkthrough

Find Find Elder Blaz (Ruins of First City  at 864, 511, -662  • Temple near Plane of Fire entrance)

You say, 'Hail, Elder Blaz'
Elder Blaz says, 'I am Elder Blaz. Strongest of the Bloodfire Elders. The information I possess, you have been found worthy of.'
You say, 'Excellent! Tell me where Winterfang is!'
Elder Blaz says, 'Winterfang is beyond our ability to see, and your ability to kill. However, I know where his companion, the Water Spirit Sotam can be found.'
You say, 'Fine then, perhaps he can be forced to tell me what I want to know. Where can I find Sotam?'
Elder Blaz says, 'Sotam can be found off the coast, in the waters near Cythro Malath in Lake Starfall. Beware his defenses.'

Your journal has been updated. [Unstoppable Objects]

Journal Text: I have the location of Winterfangs companion, Sotam. He is underwater in Lake Starfall, near the entrance to Cythro Malath. I shall end him quickly.

First Encounter with Sotam the Unstoppable

Note: The player cannot skip this initial encounter with Sotam the Unstoppable by going straight to the Blacksmith of the Firelord instead.

Find Sotam the Unstoppable (Lake Starfall  at 2529, 2070  •)

Note: Sotam is indifferent until you hail him; after which he will attack. You will not be able to hurt him currently, so some form of Succor/Evacuate will work well.
You say, 'Hail, Sotam the Unstoppable'
Suddenly recognizing who you are, Sotam the Unstoppable attacks!

Your journal has been updated. [Unstoppable Objects]

Journal Text: I... I can't wound this thing! Its deflecting everything I throw at it. I'm going to need something to counter it. Some kind of weapon... I need to locate someone who has crafted weapons for Tarhyl.

Crystal of Core Shattering

Find Blacksmith of the Firelord (Azzerach, the Forsaken Realm  at 19, 329, -147  • Hakim Cala, behind Bloodfire Ambassador.)

You say, 'Hail, Blacksmith of the Firelord'
lacksmith of the Firelord says, '<Player Name>? I can sense that you need something.'
You say, 'Sotam. I wish to kill him, but am unable too! He deflects everything I send at him.'
lacksmith of the Firelord says, 'Sotam... a water spirit correct?'
You say, 'Indeed, you know of him?'
Blacksmith of the Firelord says, 'And you can't hurt him? Can't believe Shojar actually finished that project...'
You say, 'Quickly, tell me what you know!'
Blacksmith of the Firelord says, 'I wasn't around then... but our Lord Tarhyl had the upper hand. Shojar, in desperation, started a bunch of projects to counter Tarhyl's might. When the truce was called, most of these projects were scrapped. One of them, however, involved water spirits and supposed invulnerability.'
You say, 'Supposed? You mean there was a way through it?'
Blacksmith of the Firelord says, 'Indeed. And a good thing too. Sotam works for Tarhansar now. The idea was to give a specific, secret, weakness to any of his creations, in case they went rogue.'
You say, 'Well what is his weakness?'
Blacksmith of the Firelord says, 'That is a funny story really... take this with a grain of salt. But supposedly the Sotam experiment notes were lost on Dalaya shortly after mortals appeared. The shadow dwarves found it, and realizing its importance to their Master, hid it away. But when the Zaranth faction split off, they took it with them. Those notes are the key to defeating Sotam.'
You say, 'So find these notes? Easy enough.'
Blacksmith of the Firelord says, 'Almost. Most likely the notes detail creation of some sort of weapon. Find the components for this weapon, and bring those to me. That will be my hand in all this.'

Your journal has been updated. [Unstoppable Objects]

Journal Text: Why must these things always be unnecessarily complex! The Zaranth, a split off of the Shadow Dwarves, most likely have the notes I need. But the notes themselves are useless by themselves. So I must collect what the book itself tells me to, and bring it all back to the Blacksmith.

Travel to Crystal Caverns and gather:

  • Sotam: Unstoppable

Read the text, which details the items needed to breach Sotam the Unstoppable's barrier.

Gather and give to Blacksmith of the Firelord:

  • Sotam: Unstoppable
  • Golem Parts
  • Iced Crystal Ring
  • Tongue of Fire
After some time, Blacksmith of the Firelord smiles and hands you a crystal. 'It can only hold five charges of energy... I can recharge it if you run out, but while you fight him, five will have to be enough.'

You receive Crystal of Core Shattering from Blacksmith of the Firelord.

Your journal has been updated. [Unstoppable Objects]

Journal Text: There are not many charges in this crystal... I had best make them count. He can recharge them for a time, but regardless, I need to defeat Sotam before they run out.
Note: Should you run out of charges on the Crystal of Core Shattering, return to Blacksmith of the Firelord and have the following conversation in order to have the charges restored.
You say, 'Hail, Blacksmith of the Firelord'
Blacksmith of the Firelord says, 'You have the tool you need. Defeat Sotam, and bring honor to the Djari.'
You say, 'Er... actually I kind of... broke the crystal... or something.'
Blacksmith of the Firelord says, 'There is something terribly wrong with one who could lose such a powerful artifact. I thankfully attuned it to myself, and it has thus returned to its master. Here it is again, do not lose it again.'

You receive Crystal of Core Shattering from Blacksmith of the Firelord.

Second Encounter with Sotam the Unstoppable

Return to Sotam the Unstoppable (Lake Starfall  at 2529, 2070  •)

You say, 'Hail, Sotam the Unstoppable'
Suddenly recognizing who you are, Sotam the Unstoppable attacks!

Sotam the Unstoppable attacks. He will remain impervious to damage until his barrier is broken with a charge from the Crystal of Core Shattering.

Each time the barrier is broken, Sotam the Unstoppable gives off the following emote:

Sotam the Unstoppable reels in horror as his defenses are disabled!

Each time the barrier is restored, Sotam the Unstoppable gives off the following emote:

Sotam the Unstoppable gains confidence as his defenses return!
Note: The barrier will remain down for 30 seconds each time the effect is applied to Sotam the Unstoppable. You must be able to slay the elemental using five or less charges, or the Crystal of Core Shattering becomes nonfunctional and must be recharged by the Blacksmith of the Firelord (see above).

You have looted a Handle of the Spear.

You have completed a quest. [Unstoppable Objects]

Journal Text: The bastard is dead. But I got no information on Winterfang... my search continues.
You say, 'Hail, Elder Cindered'
Elder Blaz says, 'Your path of vengeance has begun. But my part in it is over.'
Note: This is one of two items needed to advance the primary quest; the other is attained from Shadows of the Lost.
