Walkthrough

Find Heli`ze the Hermit (The Remnants of Old Ikild  at 310, 3660, -338  •) .

You say, 'Hail, Heli`ze the Hermit'
Heli`ze the Hermit tells you, 'It is very odd... but seemingly sound at the same time.'
You say, 'What did you see?'
Heli`ze the Hermit tells you, 'The visions centered around a holy relic, the symbol of the Ruling Triumvirate of Old Ikild. Legend was it was given directly to the Triumvirate by Elael, and imbued with his burning power.'
You say, 'So what was this relic?'
Heli`ze the Hermit tells you, 'It had many names... The Great Gem of Ikild to some, Tear of Elael to others. Everyone on Ikisith knew of its significance. It powered the greatest talisman of the old Iksar empire, and was held by the leader of the Elder Council. It should be inside the ruins, but it is missing, and the disruption is binding these souls to this wasteland. If you were to restore the Tear to Ikild its power would allow these spirits to go free.'
You say, 'Do you have any idea where it might be?'
Heli`ze the Hermit tells you, 'The long time they have spent in this horrible half-life has twisted the minds, and the memories of these spirits. They showed me a tribe of orcs that fled Ikisith long ago, living in a burning waste, but could do no more.'

Journal Text: I must find a tribe of orcs living in a scorched land that fled Ikisith long ago, to learn what they know about the Tear of Elael.
Note: Speaking to Dawnlord Ghorlan requires apprehensive Dawn Tribe faction.

Find Dawnlord Ghorlan (The Oasis  at -389, 402, 133  • Center of zone; Top of tower on the island) .

You say, 'Hail, Dawnlord Ghorlan'
You say, 'I have come in search of the Tear of Elael.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'I have not heard mention of that name for a long time friend. Brothers, please leave me and this one so that we can talk in private.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan says, 'Let us talk now that we are alone.'

The other orcs leave the room.

You say, 'Hail, Dawnlord Ghorlan'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'The great Tear of Elael is similar to our Dawn Stone but it holds a great deal more power. I must say I am rather surprised that you have heard of it let alone that you would come seek the counsel of the Dawn Tribe.'
You say, 'A denizen of old Ikild has seen the stone and its location in a vision.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'I have not heard of such a magic and I don't believe that someone would tell you of the stone and send you here. Tell me, what do you want from the stone?'
You say, 'Explain to him the situation.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'This is very peculiar. I do believe you are telling the truth but... Let me first tell you the story of our tribes acquisition of the Tear of Elael.'
You say, 'Listen'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'Long ago when our tribe used to live on Ikisith, the many orc tribes waged constant warfare over ownership of the Tear. All of them except one: us. Our tribe believed that if the stone was to be ours then we would be given it through divine methods, and would not have to take it through guile or by brute force. As luck would have it, however, the other tribes began to see the stone as cursed and eventually gave it to us out of pure cowardice.'
You say, 'Cursed?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'The Tear itself is not cursed, but what it does to those who seek it is. Not only did the tribe who was in possession of the Tear suffer severe casualties while at war with other tribes, but they also were hunted by two very powerful iksar. These iksar were relentless and would stop at nothing, no matter the damage done to them, to acquire the Tear. In fact, one of the tribes was certain the two Iksar had been defeated. Weeks later, however, those same two Iksar returned.'
You say, 'Go on'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'We knew of the dangers but as followers of Elael we could not refuse such a gift. It was only a few days before they found us. They called themselves the 'Lights of Elael' and claimed that they were the true owners of the Tear. Labeling these newcomers as blasphemers, my ancestors refused to hand over the stone. Many of our tribe died that day, but Elael was with them and the 'Lights of Elael' were defeated for the time being.'
You say, 'Did they come back?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'My ancestors did not give them enough time. Already, they had plans to cross the sea and find a new home away from all the strife and warfare. This attack just hastened their departure. They took the Tear and whatever else they could carry and left Ikisith behind forever.'
You say, 'Where is the stone now?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'Under our protection just as it has been for all these years. Our ancestors decided to hide the stone and never speak of it again, out of fear that word would travel of the Tear's existence and the war and death they had left behind would return to them. It was buried with the first Dawnlord that passed onto Elael, and each every Dawnlord makes the pilgrimage to the tomb before dying to watch over the Tear. Over time, its existence was forgotten by all except the Dawnlords themselves.'
You say, 'Is it not a cherished artifact? Why hide it?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'It may have been a great relic of our people if it were safe to speak of. But that is not the case. It is my duty to the tribe and to my ancestors that the Tear of Elael be kept safe. It was not given to us as a gift. We are its protectors only. The Dawn Stone is our gift from Elael - not the Tear.'
You say, 'What would you require me to do to prove I could protect the stone?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'I would only tell one who is more capable than us of the stone's location. To hand it over to one less worthy would go against my duty as its guardian. If you can prove to me that you can ensure its safety above and beyond what our tribe can do then I will gladly hand it over to you.'
You say, 'How can I prove myself?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'I am sure you have noticed the Kaezulians have recently returned to our lands. These slavers have already begun to spread their Lord's dark influence. Luckily, they have not yet pushed us so hard that we have been forced to flee our lands. But it is probably only a matter of time. Many of my tribe have already fallen in battle.'
You say, 'What would you have me do?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'It pains me to see those I know taken from us and although the Darksun do not wish to align themselves with us I do not want to see them fall to such a force either. There is a leader among the slavers. I have heard his named shouted across the wastes many times. Venzi`kar... He is who you should seek out. I have little doubt in my mind he must be stopped if our tribe is to remain safe.'
You say, 'Do you know where I can find him?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'He often raids the Darksun camps to the North, taking a sizable shipment back each time he sweeps through them. I am sure you can find him there. Be aware though that if you outnumber him by too much I doubt he will stick around for long. I advise you to take a small band of your most trusted friends. Do this for us and you will have proven yourself as capable of being the Tear of Elael's guardian. I wish you luck friend - for both our sakes.'

Journal Text: Dawnlord Ghorush has tasked me with defeating the leader of the slavers that have landed nearby. If I am able to do this he will believe me worthy to protect the Tear of Elael.

Kill Lashmaster Venzi`kar (Northern Waste of Tarhyl  at 60, 300, -32  • Center orc camp) and gather the Lashmaster's Lash.

Return to Dawnlord Ghorlan (The Oasis  at -389, 402, 133  • Center of zone; Top of tower on the island)

Give Dawnlord Ghorlan:

  • Lashmaster's Lash
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'The malicious instrument of the Lashmaster! This is great news indeed. And despite our differences, I am happy to hear that the Darksuns escaped with their lives. Perhaps one day we might be able to band together against Kaezul's forces. I deem you worthy Hero... I will tell you of the tomb.'

You gain 90,000 experience!!

You say, 'Where can I find this tomb?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'As I told you before the tomb is located within our previous homeland, the Cauldron of Dawn. A hidden sacred place that is protected by the spirits and the well being of our tribe. The stronger we are the stronger it is. However those that receive our blessing will be given the opportunity to allow passage through it safely. What you should be in search of when you reach the cauldron is a large headstone on the center isle, that is where the entrance to the tomb is located. Ahh... But I fear there is one more thing...'
You say, 'What is it?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'Although it is now possible for you to access the tomb you will be unable to commune with them, for that I am afraid we must undergo an old ritual. One that has not been done for a long time but like many things has been passed down to the Dawnlords if a need ever arouse.'
You say, 'When can we proceed with the ritual?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'The ritual has no constraints on when it must be done, and in terms of preparations this is no great festivity it will take little time to get things underway. The problem however is what must be used in the ritual. We simply do not have the components on hand. And I dislike having to tell you this after you have aided us, but you must be the one to gather them.'
You say, 'What is needed for this ritual?.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'You must retrieve the spirit of an ancient enemy of the Dawnlords of past before they fled Ikisith. Along with this you will need to bring me a ritual knife that must be used on the spirit. And lastly we will need some peerless bones that can be ground into Incantation dust. Once you have gathered these things for me I will perform the ritual immediately.'
You say, 'Do you have any idea where I might find these things?'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'It would just be my guess but it sounds like you might be able to find the undead spirit from the same place that ended up leading you here. The bones can likely be found outside of Ikisith among powerful skeletons, although finding bones strong enough to fuel the ritual may prove difficult. I am uncertain about where you may be able to find such a knife though, you are left to your own cunning with it. I wish you luck in your gathering of these materials.'

Journal Text: I must return an ancient enemy spirit from the Remnants of Ikild, peerless bones from powerful skeletons that are not native to Ikisith and a suitable ritual knife to Dawnlord Ghorlan before we can proceed.

Gather and give Dawnlord Ghorlan:

  • Ancient Iksarian Spirit
  • Peerless Bone Chips
  • Cabalist's Ritual Knife
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'This is a suitable knife for the ritual.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'It is good to see you are well <Player Name>. I see you have everything required. Let me prepare the ritual. This will only take a moment.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan says, 'It is ready...'
You say, 'Hail, Dawnlord Ghorlan'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'I am uncertain what will happen to you once the ritual begins, I pray to Elael you will be kept safe. I am ready when you are just give the word.'
You say, 'Let it be done.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'Very well.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan throws the incantation dust into the flames as he releases the ancient spirit. Holding the knife in the fire the spirit begins to wrap about the blade until it forms a small sheathe around it.
You say, 'Hail, Dawnlord Ghorlan'
Dawnlord Ghorlan plunges the dagger into your chest.

You have entered The Remnants of Old Ikild. (2689, 849, -334.72)

You awake looking through the eyes of the past.

You lose control of yourself!

a restless iksar says, 'Have you felt it? The touches... at the edges of my mind... scrabbling fingers... He is everywhere, sees my every movement. He dreams my dreams, peers into my very soul... I can shut him out no longer... this bond will be our undoing.'
a pale iksar remains silent.
a restless iksar says, 'I'm sure even this conversation is revealed. Still, we can do nothing on our own. Though I detest to say it, we must join forces.'
a pale iksar says, 'Join forces with slime like you? I can't believe I am even considering the thought. What choice do I have at this point? Already the assault renews, attempting to wrest my life from this body. When we are free you had best not tarry, I have no tolerance for the likes of you.'
a restless iksar says, 'My thoughts exactly... Wait a minute, we are not alone.'
a pale iksar says, 'Oh ho, look at this. A rat who wandered into the wrong district. What a pity...'

You have entered combat...

You have entered The Oasis.

Note: All of you buffs will be removed at this point.
You say, 'Hail, Dawnlord Ghorlan'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'I am uncertain of what you just saw but the ritual is complete and you may now commune with my ancestors. I trust you remember where you can find their tomb?'

You gain 100,000 experience!!

You say, 'Yes the center island of the Cauldron of Dawn.'
Dawnlord Ghorlan tells you, 'Good, then there is nothing else that I need tell you. One last thing before you go though. I would bring friends, more than you needed for any part of this journey till now. Convincing my ancestors you are worthy will be no easy task, I can assure you of that... Elael guide you.'

Journal Text: I am to travel to the Dawnlords ancient tomb within the Cauldron of Dawn. I should assemble a sizable force before heading there.

Find Dawnprime Teron`Rish (Cauldron of Dawn  at -402, -966, 97  • In front of the monolith on the island.)

You say, 'Hail, Dawnprime Teron`Rish'
Dawnprime Teron`Rish says, 'I felt your mark as you approached, but you are clearly no orc. What trickery is this?'
You say, 'None of the sort, I have come for something.'
Dawnprime Teron`Rish says, 'Something? There is only one possession we hold, It is very precious to us.'
You say, 'I have shown my strength to your kin, and I have great need of its power, for a noble cause. I will be a worthy successor to your guardianship.'
Dawnprime Teron`Rish says, 'Your reasons are none of my concern. If a Dawnlord saw fit to mark you as such, he must have had good reason. We will accept you as the new guardian, provided...'
You say, 'Yes?'
Dawnprime Teron`Rish says, 'We will not just hand you the stone. You must first prove to US that you are worthy to become its new guardian. We will test your mettle now, prepare yourself.'
It suddenly feels very crowded...

Dawnprime Teron`Rish shouts, 'ENOUGH! I believe we have all had enough... You have proven yourselves. As a testament of your strength we hand over these artifacts in hopes they will aid in the protection of the Tear of Elael. But before we hand it over there is a request I must ask of you that is also tied into the stone itself.'
You say, 'Hail, Dawnprime Teron`Rish'
[sic]You have proven yourself an... adequate combatant. We will pass the stone on to you. However, there is something you should know.
You say, 'What would that be?'
[sic]he stone is an object of great power, and it has proven a lodestone to those who seek such things. Some of them have managed to touch the stone and infect it with their taint, drawing strength from its magic to fuel their own agendas.
You say, 'Do you speak of the Lights of Elael?'
[sic]Yes... That is what they call themselves, a title devoid of truth and entirely misleading. Their only connection to Elael is through the Tear, which they have stolen, but they believe otherwise, and think themselves specially chosen to carry out the commands of Elael. What nonsense. What blasphemy... Reckless fools is all they are, and very dangerous ones at that. They share a direct connection to the stone now, but I would like that to end.
You say, 'You want me to put a stop to them?'
[sic]It would be for the best. Not only for their blasphemy, but for all the death they caused in their grasp at its power. My tribe was nearly wiped out driving them back, and we were not the only ones. Their justice is coming for them. And once your deliver it, the full power of the Tear will be yours to command.
You say, 'How can I do this?'
[sic]It will be difficult. Their link to the stone makes them impossible to kill while it is active, and it can only be severed while they are unconscious and unable to mount any defense. You will need to disable them, then bring the stone near. It should be able to rid itself of their influence, once it is so weakened.
You say, 'Where can I find them?'
[sic]They could never bring themselves to leave Ikisith, the past seat of their power. There were three of them, nominally equal in the structure, but always two of them were plotting against the third, whose prowess at magery and politicking shadowed theirs. These two I have seen glimpses of from afar, deep in the ruins.
You say, 'The third one?'
[sic]Not all of their bonds to the Tear were equal... The one that travels alone was much more powerful that the others. We can feel his influence on the stone growing as he gathers his strength. There may come a day when you are ready to face him. But that day is not today.
You say, 'Do I not need to completely free the Tear from their taint?'
[sic]Ideally yes, but ridding the Tear of those two should be enough for anything you will require. Someday you may finish the deed, but not yet. Now... Take the Tear of Elael: it is your responsibility, and not one to be taken lightly. And above all else do not let it fall into the hands of our enemies...

You receive Weakened Tear of Elael.
