Walkthrough

Find Eisa of the Rose (City of Mercy  at -1529, -1379, 57  • Patrols South East, near the barracks) .

You say, 'Hail, Eisa of the Rose'
Eisa of the Rose says, 'Good day Private <Player Name>.'
You say, 'Thank you for the promotion Ma'am.'
Eisa of the Rose shakes her head. 'Don't thank me. You have been assigned to Captain Aiden, one of Thanes closest cronies. I was really hoping it would be someone else, but Judge Rouf Stoutmane intervened, and made this happen instead. I don't know why, particularly since he hates Thanes and recommended you to me himself.
You say, 'Can you tell me about Duke Thanes?
Eisa of the Rose says, 'Duke Thanes the Righteous... what can I say... he's a zealot, pure and simple. He is by far the most powerful Paladin... most powerful anything mortal really, that's ever served Althuna. He seeks out darkness and destroys it with such vigor and hatred... its frightening. He is also terribly judgmental, no one meets his standards at all. The only one close to him in power was Sir Frostcleave... but that's pretty much a lost cause.'
You say, 'Can you tell me about Judge Stoutmane?'
Eisa of the Rose says, 'Rouf Stoutmane is the reigning Judge around City of Mercy these days. He is very fair, and very wise, but you have already met him and probably know that. If what you REALLY wanted to know was why he has such interest in you, and clearly wanted you serving under Captain Aiden, I couldn't tell you. Maybe the old coot has finally lost it after they locked up Sir Frostcleave.'
You say, 'Who is Sir Frostcleave?'
Eisa of the Rose says, 'He was an up and coming young knight. Lots of natural talent, much like Duke Thanes, but had a gentle air about him. Don't let that make you think he's weak, he could match Thanes blow for blow. Regardless since he apparently defected and refused to atone, I suppose its a moot point. We were somewhat foolish to put our hope into him.'
You say, 'Can you tell me about Captain Aiden?'
Eisa of the Rose says, 'He is your new superior officer. He is very loyal to Duke Thanes, and likes to keep all his subordinates scrambling to please him. Don't be one of those subordinates <Player Name>, you are better than that. Do what he wants, but don't let it compromise your morals. Promise me that. Captain Aiden can usually be found patrolling near the prison area.'

Journal Text: I must now locate Captain Aiden, and report to him for new duties. Eisa has warned me that he is not the... nicest... of people to work with..

Find Captain Aiden (City of Mercy  at -1600, -650, -70  • Roams near prison area (south middle)) .

You say, 'Hail, Captain Aiden'
Captain Aiden says, '<Player Name>? Oh yes... my new subordinate... oh... this is not good. Thanes will lose respect for my unit if someone like you is seen in it... what to do..'
You say, 'Say what? I have already proven an effective-'
Captain Aiden shouts, 'DO NOT TALK BACK TO A SUPERIOR OFFICER! Do you understand me <Player Name>. Never, ever, ever even consider thinking about talking back to me if you haven't been asked your opinions, and be assured your opinion is not important to me at all!'
[D1]
You say, 'I am not someone to be trifled with Captain, I'll report this to-'
Captain Aiden says, 'You? Report me? To anyone? Please! My only superior is Duke Thanes the Righteous, and who will he side with? A little dirt like yourself, known for head strong foolishness, running off into the desert or island hopping, without any order too? Or myself, his right hand man for 15 years. Besides I have done nothing but put you in your place, something he would have done with his sword if you had dared speak at him. Oh, or do you mean to the Judge or Lady Rose. I don't answer to them. I only answer to Thanes.'
You say, 'What about Althuna?'
Captain Aiden says, 'I... yes of course. The Lady Althuna as well. Her most just and wise Lady always holds a special place in my heart. And her chosen, her strongest, is Duke Thanes, which you would do well to remember. On an unrelated note I think I figured out what to do with you.'
[D2]
You say, '[stay silent]'
Captain Aiden says, 'Ah yes, complacency. You may last here after all. But honestly I can't stand the sight of you right now. Nothing personal of course. Oh! I know what to do with you.'
You say, 'Oh? Do share.'
Captain Aiden says, 'Yes, Private Peters could use a relief man. He's guarding a dangerous criminal we caught out near King's Pass a couple weeks ago. He was tried, judged, and found guilty with no remorse. He awaits execution at the moment.'
You say, 'So you want me to go and guard a prisoner?'
Captain Aiden says, 'Correct. Find Private Peters and tell him he is allowed a break while you watch the prisoner. This is a simple task, so do it perfectly. Do not under any circumstances speak with the prisoner or otherwise interact with him. You will be disciplined if you do.'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: It appears my exciting career with the Rose Squadron has become mundane guard duty. I am to relieve Private Peters and watch the prisoner until he returns. I can hardly wait...

Find Private Peters Greaven (City of Mercy  at -1600, -650, -70  • Guards the prison area) .

You say, 'Hail, Private Peters Greaven'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Ah you must be Captain Aiden's new page! Glad to meet you. I am Private Peters.'
You say, 'Page...?'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'No need to be shy. I'm ready to be relieved. I'll be back in about ten minutes I think. You just stand here, and don't let anyone in. Its very important work for a Page, so don't mess up. Dangerous criminals are in there, we don't want anyone talking to them.'
You say, 'Ya... you do that.'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Off to the bar! Wonder if Sasha is serving today!'

Find a regretful rogue (City of Mercy  • In a cell, behind Private Peters Greaven) .

You say, 'Hail, a regretful rogue'
a regretful rogue says, 'Uh... why... why are you... you're not Peters...'
You say, 'This is correct.'
a regretful rogue says, 'You realize you are not supposed to talk to me right? You'll get in trouble.'
You say, 'I've been told as much.'
a regretful rogue says, 'Oh really? Brazen for an Althuna follower. Thought you were all just a bunch of sheep.'
You say, 'That's not really a fair thing to say.'
a regretful rogue says, 'Maybe, but it is true. Only reason I'm in here is because of your no thinking follow orders mentality.'
You say, 'Why are you in here anyway?'
a regretful rogue says, 'Thievery, murder, running from the law, grand theft equine. The usual. Listen you don't seem all that bad for one of them... you should go back to guarding before whats his face returns. You shouldn't get into trouble over me.'
You say, 'For a convicted murder you seem fairly preoccupied with my well being.'
a regretful rogue says, 'I... there is no reason for anyone else to get hurt due to my actions.'
You say, 'Anyone else? What happened.'
a regretful rogue sighs. 'I... we were a pair. And we were going to hit the big on. The Newport Ironforge family... it was going to glorious. Enough to retire. Maybe get a little place in Kelethin... I don't know...
You say, 'We? Who was the other?'
a regretful rogue says, 'She... she was my everything. I'd give anything to know if she made it... I- dammit I hear Peters returning. Listen, I can die in peace if I know she made it. It's all in my journal, I lost it in the struggle on the canyon where they captured me. Near Kings Pass!'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: I met a rogue while on guard duty. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, but they can be deceptive. He asked me to find out the fate of his girl friend and partner in crime, but was only able to tell me to find his journal somewhere near Kings Pass...
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Hey! You aren't supposed to talk to the prisoners! What do you think you are doing!'
a regretful rogue shouts, 'Find her! Please! I beg you! She is my world!'
Private Peters Greaven shouts, 'What are you doing! No one gets in here to see the prisoner! No one!'
You say, 'Hail, Private Peters Greaven'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'I can't believe you disobeyed orders! Obeying the Captain is the most important thing you have to do. Get out of here! And rest assured the Captain will know everything!'

Travel to Eastern Badlands and gather Grant's Journal.

Find Kiera D`unteraux (Stinger's Bog  • Near Grabshlosh the Festering) .

Note: Zone into Stinger's Bog from Southern Waste of Tarhyl.
A chill sweeps over you. You swear you hear a whisper up ahead...
You say, 'Hail, Kiera D`unteraux'
Kiera D`unteraux says, 'Cold... so cold...'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: A ghost! She's heading to The Halls of Mielech... I need to figure out whats happening...

Follow Kiera D`unteraux as she makes her way to the entrance of Halls of Mielech.

Kiera D`unteraux moans and gestures towards the halls.

Enter Halls of Mielech and find Kiera D'unteraux.

Again you hear a whisper and chill in front of you.
You say, 'Hail, Kiera D`unteraux'
Kiera D`unteraux says, 'Knife hurt... trapped...'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: Grant is going to be torn apart by this... she seems to have descended towards Mielech Keep... I have to find out what she wants!
Kiera D`unteraux sinks into the ground... its going deeper, and deeper... perhaps as far as the Keep...

Enter Keep of Mielech through the South East entrance and find Kiera D'unteraux.

The apparition looks at you and wails softly...
You say, 'Hail, Kiera D`unteraux'
Kiera D`unteraux says, 'Corrupted... I ran... so cold.... so many elite... so many evokers...'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: Was she killed here? She mentioned elites and evokers. Maybe I can find some sign of what got her from them...
Kiera D`unteraux fades away, leaving you to wonder what her last message meant. Perhaps you should investigate here further...

Kill a froglok elite and a froglok evoker until you receive Elegant Thieves Tools.

Return to Private Peters Greaven (City of Mercy  at -1600, -650, -70  • Guards the prison area) .

You say, 'Hail, Private Peters Greaven'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Where the hell have you been! You are going to be in so much trouble! The Captain is in a rage. He's been asking everyone about you. You are gonna be stuck in guard duty forever now!'
You say, 'Like you?'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Yah like- Hey! I'll have you know I'm going to have a very important mission from Captain Aiden himself pretty soon. You'll be sorry!'
You say, 'Let me through Peters, I need to speak to the rogue'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'No, you are not getting through, no matter what. I won't have it. I am steadfast and dependable, nothing will move me. Now leave!'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: I need to figure out someway to get past Peters... maybe someone around here will have some idea.
Note: I am not sure how people are to realize that Peters drink of choice is Vodka Tonic. I tried the A goblin bartender and they didn't seem like much help.

Gather and give Private Peters Greaven:

  • Vodka Tonic x 2
Before you can even say anything, Peters grabs the Vodka Tonics and chugs them both. He smiles at you, then laughs, sways back and forth, and finally falls down.

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: Wow... He really can't hold his liquor... time to get this journal to and show these thieves tools to the prisoner.
You say, 'Hail, a regretful rogue'
a regretful rogue says, 'You... nice trick you pulled on Greaves. I... I get a foreboding feeling from you... did you find any sign of Keira?'

Give a regretful rogue:

  • Grant's Journal
  • Elegant Thieves Tools
a regretful rogue says, 'Oh god... no... this can't be... these were a gift from her instructor. Custom made... I... what do you know?'
You say, '[Tell him all about the mysterious chill, the apparition, and how you got the Thieves tools.]'
a regretful rogue says, 'No! NO! Keira! How could! This is all my fault! This... I have got to get out of here! Can you get the keys off Peters! Get me out of here! I need to avenge her I need to-'
You say, 'Calm down. You'll attract attention with all that noise.'
a regretful rogue says, 'I don't care! My Keira! My dear darkelven beauty is dead! And possibly undead if what you saw was right! Oh damn you Halls of Mielech, and damn you dirty frogs... and I... I... you won't let me out will you?'
You say, 'No, I can't let you out.'
You hear Peters stirring, he metabolized that liquor fast! The prisoner speaks. 'Listen, if she was leading you it was probably because shes trapped there somehow... she needs help! You're a follower of Althuna, you can't let her suffer!'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: I think I may be pushing this too far... but letting someone suffer is not something I can stand by and allow. The prisoner suggested I find a Burt in Newport, one of his old colleagues I guess. I have no other leads, so I might as well.
Private Peters Greaven yells 'Ouch... my head... I... what in the name of Althuna... You! Talking to him again!'
a regretful rogue shouts, 'You've got to save her! You need to free her! Don't let her suffer for my mistakes! Whatever happens, free save her! Find Burt in Newport! He'll have some idea of what to do!'
Private Peters Greaven yells 'Free who? Dammit get out of there before the Captain arrives!'
Private Peters Greaven shouts, 'What are you doing! No one gets in here to see the prisoner! No one!'

Find Burt Wellford (Southern Newport  at 86, 72  • Boat docks, near a dinghy on the beach) .

You say, 'Hail, Burt Wellford'
Burt Wellford says, 'Hello.'
Burt Wellford says, 'Yes?'
You say, 'I was sent here by a friend of yours. Used to pair with a 'Keira
Burt Wellford says, 'Oh shit oh shit! Grant was caught? You... you are from the City of Mercy? Oh god! Why would Grant tell you about me! I didn't do nothing! I swear it was all him!'
You say, 'Calm down! So Grant is his name... this is about Keira though. She needs help and your friend sent me here to get it.'
Burt Wellford says, 'I can't trust you. And if she's in the City of Mercy too, then there is no way she's getting out, not even with an insider.'
You say, 'No, she was killed.'
Burt Wellford says, 'Well... that's the end of her worries.'
You say, 'You are heartless. She appears to be haunting the Halls of Mielech.'
Burt Wellford says, 'Oh shit oh shit! Halls of Mielech! It's over man, let her haunt it forever. Never liked her much anyway! I ain't going anywhere near there.'
You say, 'I'm not here to ask you for anything. I was hoping to get some direction.'
Burt Wellford says, 'Here's a direction. Go home. You got nothing on me, no proof at least. And as for Keira people don't become ghosts for no reason. Somethings keeping her there. Maybe cuz she wasn't buried. I'd go figure out where they killed her and try to find some of her remains. Maybe your people could do an on the house burial or something. You did pretty much kill her after all.'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: Burt was less than helpful, but I feel more drive then ever to see this through. He suggested I find her remains and try to give them an honorable burial. That may just calm her spirit. I should go back to Mielech, and find her remains. Those Elites and Evokers are probably a good start.

Return to Keep of Mielech and kill a froglok elite and a froglok evoker until you receive an emote.

Note: Quest flagged character must get the killshot.
A horrible chill flows from the Shadow Scarab cavern...
Note: The emote is easy to miss, and is usually gotten quickly.

Find Kiera D`unteraux in the Small hall past the three a shadow scarab, just west of a sane froglok. She will attack you.

Kiera D`unteraux says, 'For the cold Master! Your body will join our ranks and your soul will suffer along side me!'

Kill Kiera D'unteraux.

Keira's form dissipates, but the chill remains... she isn't gone yet.

[You have been flagged for the next section!]

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: This is incredibly bad. I don't know who else to turn too, as Peters likely won't let me see Grant, but if she has other friends and family, Burt will know. I should go tell him what happened.

Return to Burt Wellford (Southern Newport  at 86, 72  • Boat docks, near a dinghy on the beach) .

You say, 'Hail, Burt Wellford'
Burt Wellford says, 'Hello.'
Looking on Burt you see that he has been recently bruised, badly, in the face. 'Oh... you...'
[D1]
You say, 'I found Kiera, she become an undead! Somethings different though...'
Burt Wellford says, 'And your buddy found me...'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Hello <Player Name>.'
[D2]
You say, 'Are you ok? What happened to you. Who did this?'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Fine friends you've been making recently, <Player Name>.'
You say, 'Hail, Private Peters Greaven'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Insubordination. Desertion. Causing harm to a superior officer. Conspiracy with an imprisoned criminal. Conspiracy with a likely criminal to free a criminal. Do you have any idea how serious these crimes are!'
You say, 'Wait who was the superior officer?'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Me you dolt! Me because as soon as you get back to the City of Mercy, you'll be stripped of your rank, and probably imprisoned forever. I'll volunteer to guard you and make sure your life is hell.'
You say, 'I did nothing wrong.'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'Are you a complete loon? In any case I didn't make all those charges, they did, based on my reports. I followed you here and saw you talk to Burt over there. And he's willing to testify against you for some amnesty. So much for the short career of Private <Player Name>! Oh and about your friend Grant who I was guarding...'
You say, 'What about him...'
Private Peters Greaven says, 'His execution date has been moved up. He'll be dead in a week if all goes right. That's what happens when you go against the law! That's what happens when you think you know what's best! Return to the City of Mercy. You'll be going to trial.'

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: Things are spiraling out of control! How could I be accused of a crime! Captain Aiden certainly won't be of any help. I need to talk to Eisa, or maybe the Judge, and find out what I can do. I also need to figure out someway to stall Grant's execution until this is over so I can report to him.

Return to Eisa of the Rose (City of Mercy  at -1529, -1379, 57  • Patrols South East, near the barracks) .

You say, 'Hail, Eisa of the Rose'
Eisa of the Rose says, 'Oh this is very bad <Player Name>. I knew you were going to clash with Aiden, but I didn't realize it was going to be this bad. They want me to take your Private Insignia...'
You say, 'Whats going to happen to me?'
MISSING TEXT
You say, 'Eisa, you need to listen to me, I've been pursing this case... [Describe the events up to this point concerning Grant and Keira]'
Eisa of the Rose listens intently, her look becoming more shocked as the story continues. 'I... what you are doing is right <Player Name>. Althuna would agree. And I believe what you say. You aren't a liar.
You say, 'We need to delay the execution of Grant until I finish my investigation. A soul literally hangs in the balance.'
Eisa of the Rose pauses for a second. Then with sudden determination speaks. 'Give me your Insignia Private.'
You say, 'Eisa... I was only-'
Eisa of the Rose says, 'Give it to me now <Player Name>.'

Give Eisa of the Rose:

  • Private's Insignia of Althuna
Eisa of the Rose says, 'Understand what I do here, and why I do it <Player Name>. By the power vested in me by the Goddess Althuna, I hereby promote you to the rank of Sergeant Major. Never before has such a jump in rank been given to anyone, but this will yell to everybody, across the city, and to Althuna herself, that I believe in your innocence. Speak with me again after you attach your new stripes.'

You gain 50,000 experience!!

You receive Sgt. Major's Insignia of Althuna from Eisa of the Rose.

Your journal has been updated. [Roses of Judgment]

Journal Text: Eisa believes in me. I have been awarded the rank of Sgt. Major. I need to speak to Eisa and she will take me to the trial.
