Deepmaster Talain says, 'Now now, priest. I suggest you go to Marila and ask to see another petitioner, so that you may keep yourself busy while I examine your findings.'

Find Ocean Voice Marila (Southern Newport  at -149, -441, 7  •) .

You say, 'Hail, Ocean Voice Marila.'
Voice Marila says, 'Ah, priest. I have a petitioner who wishes the advice of the temple. Are you ready to see her?'
You say, 'I'm ready.'
Ocean Voice Marila says, 'Of course, priest. She is waiting for you in the yard.'

Find Cermyn (Southern Newport  at -232, -554  •) .

You say, 'Hail, Cermyn.'
Cermyn says, 'Thank you for seeing me lord... my name is Cermyn, I am... I am a refugee from Elvenhome. I... normally don't stay in the city much but I must talk to someone.'
You say, 'Go on.'
Cermyn tells you, 'It all begun around four months ago. I... I work as a farmhand in the Badlands, and one morning I uncovered an object in the fields. It was some kind of crystal, about the size of a hand, with a dull black color to it. I thought it looked valuable, thought I might be able to sell it, so I took it home. That night I started having the most awful nightmares. Horrible images of people, twisted and warped, others of dead lands were nothing stirred, and others yet of a face... a man's face... a man with no eyes, speaking to me though he never opened his mouth. I tried getting rid of the crystal, but somehow I couldn't bare to part with it, and the nightmares kept getting worse. I started fearing sleep, staying awake for days at an end. I stopped eating and drinking, yet I remained perfectly healthy, as though something else were sustaining me. One morning about a month later, after a particularly bad dream... I... I woke up and saw that the crystal was aglow ... aglow with a dark light that seemed to engulf everything in the room. I grabbed it, and suddenly a sensation like a numbing cold spread through my body, and the crystal went dull again. Suddenly I felt hungry and thirsty again, and as though a veil had been lifted from my mind. I immediately smashed the crystal against the floor, and thought that was the end of it... but...'
You say, 'But...
Cermyn tells you, 'Two weeks ago, the nightmares returned, worse than ever. And now I hear his voice, even while awake. The man with no eyes. Speaking to me. Telling me to do things. Horrible things. I've... I've felt him trying to take over my body, my mind! I... I've held him at bay so far, but I don't know how much longer I can do so... am I just insane, lord? Or am I corrupted? Flawed? Please, help me, please!'

[D1] You need help, you are clearly a danger to yourself and others. Turn yourself in to the Guard, so that they can place you in a ward where you can't hurt anyone.

[D2] I'm sorry, but you are corrupted, irredemably so. Turn yourself in to the Paladins of the Hand of Life so they can give you a clean death and release.

[D3] You are corrupted or insane, and either way you must die. That is the only way to remove your taint from the world.

[D4] You may be corrupted or insane, but that means you must fight to control yourself and try to find a cure. Be strong!

[D5] The law dictates that those unsound of mind should be detained for the safety of all. Go to the Office of the People and turn yourself in.

[D6] You are insane, woman, and you should not waste the time of those of my station with your ramblings. Be gone!

[D7] Corrupted? Insane?! The divine has seen fit to speak with you, woman! It is your duty to listen and obey!

[D8] You are corrupted! Get away from me, I will not be infected with whatever you have!

You say, 'You need help, you are clearly a danger to yourself and others. Turn yourself in to the Guard, so that they can place you in a ward where you can't hurt anyone.'
Cermyn tells you, 'A-alright. Thank you, lord... perhaps they can help me... perhaps they can prevent me from hurting anyone.'

Your alignment has changed to LAWFUL GOOD.

Cermyn tells you, 'But what if I can't? The voices... they are so strong... what if they take me over completely? What if they make me... do things? I will fight, I will fight them... I must fight them... I must...'
