Grithrai's Concern
Quest giver Grithrai the Headman
Starting Zone

The Murk

Suggested Level Range 65 plus
Faction Required The Gruplok
(Warmly)

Find Grithrai the Headman (The Murk  at -1200, -1540, 42  • Gruplok City) .

You say, 'Hail, Grithrai the Headman'

Grithrai the Headman tells you 'Ah, greetings <Player Name>. I have been hearing quite a bit about you recently - you really have been doing much for the Gruploks, they tell me, and I would like to express my gratitude. I hope you'll pardon our earlier coldness to you - but I'm sure you must understand how it is for us, having dealt with us for as long as you have now...'

Probable alignment shift

You say, 'I suppose you can be forgiven for your disrespect on account of your backwardness, as long as you know to respect your betters now.'
Grithrai the Headman tells you, 'Yes, well, thank you for putting up with our suspicions, I suppose. Perhaps I am overstepping my bounds, but, having heard all you've done to help my people, I was wondering if I could ask for your assistance in a very curious matter.'
You say, 'Don't worry about it.'

You say, 'There's no need to apologize - desperate times call for desperate measures. I'm just glad that I could alleviate some of your people's burdens, if only a little.'

You say, 'What is it?'
Grithrai the Headman tells you, 'Some of the townspeople have been complaining of a strange light glowing just north of the city in the night. We thought it might be some new monstrocity stalking the swamp... We sent out the Glakrin to see if he could find it by day. He returned, having found it easily. He said it was just a strange, glowing apparition, and that it seemed harmless. A few of the townspeople are stilled worried about it, and I have inspected it myself and spoken with some of our more knowledgable townspeople. I'm afraid that it might not be as harmless as it seems.'
You say, 'How so?

Grithrai the Headman tells you, 'As I'm sure you know by now, we are a people of a vast mythology. As it would happen, one of the Myths of Gruthluk mentions 'rifts,' gateways used by witches to reach into the void between the worlds of the living and the dead, which bear an alarming resemblence to the light just north of the city.

We know that, in the myth, these rifts were a great threat to the Gruplok people... to be safe, I would like to take measures to defend ourselves from this potential threat, find out what exactly we are dealing with, and find out if there is some way to get rid of the rift entirely.

I would like your help in this, for the sake of my people.'

Probable alignement shift 2

You say, 'I suppose I can help you. Just promise me you won't forget my generosity when the time comes, eh? So, any idea where I should start investigating?'
Grithrai the Headman tells you, 'Thank you, Wissan. Hopefully our fears about this strange light are unfounded. In any case, you should begin by speaking with Kalunepe. She knows much more about the myth involving the rifts than I could ever tell you.'
You say, 'For the sake of your people, I will certainly assist you. Any idea where I should start investigating?'

Find Kalunepe the Lorekeeper (The Murk  at -1490, -1800, -16  • Gruplok City main platform) .

You say, 'Hail, Kalunepe the Lorekeeper'
Kalunepe the Lorekeeper tells you, 'My, my! Can't a girl take a bath around here without someone coming in to beg for a story? Haha!'
You say, 'The Headman sent me to talk to you.'
Kalunepe the Lorekeeper tells you, 'Oh, did he? About the rift, right? Well, it's good to see something is being done about it. The whole is very unsettling, and with good reason.'
You say, 'What reason is that?'
Kalunepe the Lorekeeper tells you, 'The myth, of course. I don't buy the whole 'random swamp phenomenon' theory. It's almost certainly one of the mythic rifts - there are simply too many coincidences.'
You say, 'Could you tell me more about the myth in question?'
Kalunepe the Lorekeeper tells you, 'Oh, pardon me! I certainly can, hon. You see, there is a lesser known but very culturally rich set of myths centered on a feud between Gruthluk, the Gruplok hero, and the evil imperial witch, Slar`thith`la. In one of these myths, the witch opens a rift in retaliation for Gruthluk's raid on one of her slave camps. Many abominations poured from the rift and terrorized the city, before Gruthluk defeated them and somehow sealed the rift.'
You say, 'How did he seal the rift?'
Kalunepe the Lorekeeper tells you, 'Ah, that particular aspect of the myth is not one I'm familiar with. I consulted my old tome when Grithrai was speaking about the matter with me, but unfortunately the page that likely explains how Gruthluk seals the rifts, and possibly gives more information about the beasts from the rift, and perhaps even the rifts themselves, is missing. It's not all that odd for a page to be missing - it is a very old book, and the previous owner seemed to have an obsession with certain information "falling into the wrong hands," as it were. He was taken by the Kaezulian patrols many years ago - he may have the page we are looking for on his twisted corpse, still. If you can find it, I'm sure we'll have a lot more to work with.'
