Walkthrough

Find Haryn (Stinger's Bog  at 615,1066  •) .

You say, 'Hail, Haryn'
Haryn looks at you warily, as if surprised you're speaking to him. 'Yes?'
You say, 'Why are you out here alone?'
Haryn looks down, ears flat. 'I'm not here by choice. I've actually been hiding here for some time, living in the swamp, but something's happened. I have to talk to my fellows, and I need help for that.'
You say, 'Fellows? Do you mean the Liodreth?'
Haryn chuffs. 'Those mutants? No, not them, although I'm not surprised they're still kicking.'
You say, 'Mutants?'
Haryn waves a hand dismissively. 'It isn't important enough to waste time on. The short version of the story is, the Lands of Magic could do strange things to a body. For now, I'm looking for aid.'
You say, 'What are you?'
Haryn's ears lie flat. 'I'm vah.' He sighs, shaking his head. 'I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that you've forgotten us.'
You say, 'You speak well for a monster.'
Haryn glares at you.
You say, 'I see you're still as angry as one, though.'
Haryn shrugs. 'I'll not fight you, <Player Name>. It would be a waste of time, and that's something I can't afford.'
You say, 'How can I help?'
Haryn says, 'From time to time, we've--or rather, my friends have--hired someone to bring crops from Farmer Tenkins, usually when the citizens of Newport have been unusually lawful for a season. Our scouts know to watch for people carrying his crops. All you have to do is become one of those people. Go to his farm and obtain a few of the crops, then bring them back here. I'll tell you how to reach the others. They won't speak with me directly, but they'll see you if you've got the crops and you can deliver a message then. This isn't official, so don't take much--our working relationship with Farmer Tenkins is too important to risk. Four should be fine, just carry them somewhere so scouts can spot them.'

Journal Text: I met a strange man named Haryn, of a race called 'vah'. He was distressed and in need of help, but unforthcoming with details. If I wish to help, I should retrieve a small number of crops from Farmer Tenkins' fields in the badlands. Four should suffice. When I've got them, I'm to bring them to him.
You say, 'I'll come back with the crops.'
Haryn says, 'We'll see. I hope for our sake that you do.'

Gather and give Haryn:

  • Crops x 4
Haryn's ears perk up as he looks at the crops in your hands. A grin spreads across his face. 'Thank you, <Player Name>. We're not too late. Quickly, ask whatever questions you have, then hurry to the southern wastes of Tarhyl.'

Haryn returned Crops to you.

Journal Text: I showed the crops to Haryn, and he seems satisfied. I'm to bring them to the southern wastes of tarhyl, near the west edge of where the grass meets the sand. A scout will see me and hail me there.
You say, 'How do I find your friends?'
Haryn says, 'Head north, to the waste of Tarhyl, near where the grass meets the sand, by the rocks to the west. A scout will find you, and if they see the crops before they do then they'll approach rather than flee--don't worry if they look hostile, that's just to scare the orcs. Give them the crops, then tell them that they have to let me back, that there's something I have to tell them. Tell them it's important. Make them see reason.'
You say, 'Why are you in such a hurry?'
Haryn says, 'Because,' the vah's tail thrashes. He glances over his shoulder nervously, then turns back. 'I've been stalked since I came out of hiding. Hunters from Grobb have been getting close, and it's imperative that I talk to my fellows before they catch me.'
You say, 'Why are they hunting you?'
Haryn chuffs. 'They think I'm liodreth.'
You say, 'Why can't you talk to them yourself?'
Haryn says, 'I... I was exiled.' Haryn's ears fall. 'It was a long time ago. Please, this is too important. We'll talk later, but for now, you must go.'

Scouting out the Scouts

Find a vah rehn scout (Southern Waste of Tarhyl  •) .

Note: a vah rehn scout will flee if The Vah has not been completed to this point.
a vah rehn scout says, 'Hail, <Player Name>. Crops come early, eh? Thank you, worthy. You're a lifesaver.'

Give a vah rehn scout:

  • Crops x 4
a Vah rehn scout says, 'Only four?' The Vah flicks an ear at the crops you delivered. 'Not that I'm ungrateful, worthy, but why go all this way with just a handful?'
You say, 'I've come to deliver a message.'
The scout eyes you warily, tail thrashing behind them. 'What message would that be?'
You say, '-Explain Haryn's situation.-'
a Vah rehn scout says, 'I'm sorry, worthy, but Haryn may not return. If his message is so important, why didn't he simply give it to you?'
You say, 'His foremost concern was escaping the hunters.'
a Vah rehn scout says, 'Hunters? Ah, from Grobb. I *am* sorry, worthy, but Haryn's crime was too severe. If you could tell us what the information was, had proof it was important, then perhaps, but under these circumstances I can't allow him back. Thank you for the crops. If circumstances change, you have my leave to return here and speak with us again. May the stars guide you.'
a Vah rehn scout pads away from the area.

Your journal has been updated. [The Vah]

Journal Text: I gave the crops and the message to the Vah rehn scout, but the scout needed something more concrete before Haryn would be allowed to return to his fellows. I should return to speak again with Haryn.
