Building an arrow is more of an art than a science. It is no mystery the four components of arrows: arrowhead, shaft, fletch, and nock. The difficulty lies not in what needs to be done, but rather in accomplishing what is known to be possible. Basic arrows are easy enough for the novice fletcher to make, however as the materials become more advanced, so must the skill of the fletcher. This is what you must know about the four fletching components:

Arrowheads: Clearly, where damage is concerned, arrowheads are quite important. The better the arrowhead, the more damage you are going to do to your target.

Shafts: Like arrowheads, a good shaft can increase the quality of the arrow dramatically by providing a platform to deliver the arrow as well as adding additional momemtum to the arrow when it strikes the target.

Fletching: There are many types of fletchings and more than twice as many ways of using them. Fletch helps guide the arrow through the air to ensure it meets with its intended target. Some fletchings can enhance the range of an arrow by two-fold, while others, at a cost of range, can alter the flight of the arrow to cause more damage to the target.

Nocks: If you can't properly nock your arrow, forget shooting it. Nocks come in various sizes, the smallest of which provide for the most streamlined flight. The Master Fletchers only use the smaller nocks for their craft. Their customers demand it to be so.
