Find Emma Gemcutter (Halas  at 168, 392, 5  • Emma remains inside the locked Jeweler house at night, it can be picklocked.) and give her the Afayen's Failed Experiment.

You splash some of the experiment on Emma Gemcutter!
Emma Gemcutter coughs violently and vomits. 'Wha- who- Gradalsh!'
You say, 'You have an infection Emma. It will rot you from the outside in if you don't do as I say.'
Emma Gemcutter nods, fear in her eyes. 'This is something new isn't it... cure me! I'll do what you want just don't let it destroy me!'
You say, 'That's not how this works Emma.'
Emma Gemcutter says, 'I... I understand... I did this kind of thing a long time ago myself. What do you want.'"
You say, 'Good girl. I need free access to Halas, and you are trusted here. Get me trusted here as well.'
Emma Gemcutter says, 'I can arrange that. Now show me the cure in good faith!'

Your faction standing with Halas Guards could not possibly get any better!
Your faction standing with Halas Citizens could not possibly get any better!

You say, '[Slap her] We play the game by my rules bitch.'
Emma Gemcutter says, 'I'm sorry! Please just tell me what you want, I'll do whatever you want!'
You say, 'I need a victim Emma. Someone who will suffer, and die for my cause.'
Emma Gemcutter says, 'Not me! I don't want to die! Please! I know a better target! Someone who you can really victimize. That's what you want right?'
You say, 'Indeed. You need something in order to feel the pain of losing it. You don't seem like you have much.'
Emma Gemcutter says, 'W-well why not target the Chief? Chieftan McAston... he's fairly new, but well liked. And has a wife and kids! You can use that right?'
You say, 'Your idea has merit. Stay put for now. If you try to run, you'll never get the cure.'
Emma Gemcutter says, 'So there really is a cure? I won't run! Just work fast and I'll do everything you need. I promise!'

Find Chieftan Warren McAston (Halas  at 460, -270, 3  • On the west wall approaching the warrior guild. Only spawns if flagged.) .

Aggro Chieftan Warren McAston and his two bodyguards. Kill the two guards BUT do not harm Chieftan Warren McAston.

Chieftan Warren McAston shouts, 'Don't think you've won yet! I'll kill you and protect my family and people from harm!'
You say, 'You have a family you say?'
Chieftan Warren McAston roars in anger. 'By Enthann's sword leave them out of this!'
You say, 'So they are here then... I think I have a vial with their name on it.'
Chieftan Warren McAston crys out in fury. 'I won't let that happen you monster!'
Merral Mc Aston shouts, 'Warren dear! We've finally arrived home. Meet us at the docks.'

Find Merral Mc Aston (Halas  at 1, 10, 4  • Spawns at the docks during A Plague for All Seasons) and give her Afayen's Failed Experiment.

You heave the vial at the McAstons and they are covered in a vile gas for a moment. Nearly instantly they all keel over, coughing and retching. This seems to send the Chieftan into a rage...
You say, 'Hail, Chieftan Warren McAston'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'What have you done to my family <Player Name>? Can they be cured?'
You say, 'Not by a normal healer, this is something special let me assure you. I will not fix them until you do all I want.'
Chieftan Warren McAston growls in anger. 'Well what do you want! Just tell me, you fiend.'

Alignment question

Evil alignment shift
You say, 'First things first, you will address me as Master.'
Chieftain Warren McAston growls. 'Yes... Master.'

Chieftan Warren McAston growls. 'Indeed...'

Walkthrough continued

You say, 'You are to stop any and all support to Newport.'
Chieftan Warren McAston looks at you in anger for a second. 'Fine... I'll put a hold on all trade and the soldiers we were deploying. I somehow doubt you will cure my family with just that, however, so allow me to lay them to bed for the time being.'
You say, 'Very well, attend to them.'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'Oh, and <Player Name>, one day you'll realize how empty and pointless what you are doing is. May Althuna forgive you on that day.'

Alignment question

Unknown Shift
You say, 'That is the point, my dear. It is ALL empty and pointless. And I shall return it to such.
Chieftain Warren McAston growls but says nothing else.
Unknown shift
You say, 'The water bitch has no power here. Gradalsh always triumphs over her in the end.'
Chieftain Warren McAston growls but says nothing else.
Unknown Shift
You say, 'Shut your trap.
Chieftan Warren McAston smirks, and leaves with his family.

Walkthrough continued

You say, 'Hail, Chieftan Warren McAston'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'You... my family is spitting up bile and they are losing color daily. What do you want! Tell me!'
You say, 'Very well, I'm ready to continue anyway. Have you ceased support to Newport yet?'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'Not quite yet...'
You say, 'And this is because?'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'Be reasonable! We still need supplies to hold off the creatures-'
You say, 'Enough of your excuses!'
Chieftan Warren McAston looks exasperated. 'Listen if the Orcs would stop encroaching on us, I could! They are very riled up right now, something is happening in Everchill.'
You say, 'I will deal with the Orcs myself. Stop relations with Newport now.'
Chieftan Warren McAston sighs again. 'Very well. If you could thin them a bit, we would be OK, I guess. Some new upstart Commander, Grakin or something, is who our scouts claim is working them. Beat enough lesser Orcs and he's likely to show himself to stop you. It's the Orc way.'

Kill orcs in Everchill Caverns until Grakin the Ruthless (Everchill Caverns  • chance to spawn off any orc killed) spawns.

Grakin the Ruthless shouts, 'Prepare for oblivion, <Player Name>!'

Kill Grakin the Ruthless and return to Halas.

Upon entering Halas you will find an ambush waiting for you. Kill them then return to Chieftan Warren McAston.

Chieftan Warren McAston shouts, 'Tarhyl's flames! No! That was supposed to have worked! Damn it all to Azzerach!'
You say, 'Hail, Chieftan Warren McAston'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'I... I'm sorry! I was desperate, my son is so weak right now... I had to try something!'
You say, 'You did the wrong thing, Chieftan Warren McAston, and now I have to hurt your family. Which do you love most?'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'Are... are- you're out of your mind! You are completely out of your mind! No one is this sick!'

Alignment question

Unknown Shift
You say, 'You're right. I'll just choose myself when I find them.'
Chieftain Warren McAston says, 'No.. Althuna please-'
You say, 'Althuna is not here. I am. Make a choice or I will.'
Chieftain Warren McAston reaches for you in desparation. 'No! I'm begging do you see this? I'm begging! Do not do this! I will never attempt such a thing again. Please! Have mercy! Have compassion! Kill someone else? Please!'
Unknown Shift
You say, 'Choose or I kill them both.'
Chieftan Warren McAston starts laughing. 'You're mad... this isn't happening... you're mad...'
You say, 'Ah, my choice then, excellent.'
Chieftan Warren McAston reaches for you in desperation. 'No! I'm begging do you see this? I'm begging! Do not do this! I will never attempt such a thing again. Please! Have mercy! Have compassion! Kill someone else? Please!'
Unknown Shift
You say, 'Very well. For the time being your family is safe.'
Chieftain Warren McAston says, 'Thank you... oh thank all that is right in this world.'
You say, 'However for their lives, others must die. Since I doubt trade has stopped yet, send your troops to attack the next Silvercrown caravan.'
Chieftain Warren McAston says, 'It will be done. No more tricks. You have my word.'
You say, 'You're word isn't good enough. I will go as well, and ensure it is done properly.'
Chieftain Warren McAston says, 'I understand... Follow the path to Blackburrow. I'll send a runner ahead. I'm sure you'll find the attack in progress by the time you catch up to him.'
Unknown Shift
You say, 'No! You pay for your arrogance. For Entropy! For Gradalsh!'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'No wait! How about this! How about this! How about I- I can send my troops out! They can attack the next Silvercrown caravan. I'll order them to kill every last one!'
You say, 'Well. Perhaps. The next Silvercrown caravan you say?.'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'It will be done. No more tricks. You have my word.'
You say, 'You're word isn't good enough. I will go as well, and ensure it is done properly.'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'I understand... Follow the path to Blackburrow. I'll send a runner ahead. I'm sure you'll find the attack in progress by the time you catch up to him.'

Head south hugging the west wall. At the largest southernmost bubble a battle will ensue. Kill the a silvercrown captain (Everfrost  • Southwest Near the three Igloos) and the fighting will end.

a Silvercrown Captain says, 'Halas... why...'

You'll get a journal update that tells you to go check on Emma Gemcutter in Halas.

You say, 'Hail, Emma Gemcutter'
Emma Gemcutter is singing something to herself. 'And the birds, and bees, and crickets, let a song carry, to the sky...'
You say, 'Emma are you feeling ok?'
Emma Gemcutter looks at you, her eyes sunken into her skull. 'I'm doing wonderful Master. Never better. I've seen what you've done to the Chieftan. So beautiful. It is...'
You say, 'You are doing well, Emma. Soon I'll bring you the cure, and you'll be yourself again.'
Emma Gemcutter smiles. 'If Master would like... services.... I can provide them. Can touch you anywhere you like... and more. If you want. For you! All for you! Just a little look at the cure... to be sure you haven't lost it... would be nice...'
You say, 'No Emma, not yet.'
Emma Gemcutter whimpers and moans in pain

Return to Chieftan Warren McAston.

You say, 'Hail, Chieftan Warren McAston'
Chieftan Warren McAston looks at you pleadingly. You notice he is already speaking to someone.
a Halas soldier says, 'Sir, I saw the entire thing! <Player Name> was leading OUR troops, in an attack on the Silvercrown. You-'
You say, 'A survivor? I did not expect that.'
a Halas soldier says, 'I'm sorry, Sir I didn't- YOU! Sir, give me the order and I'll despatch this vile creature!'
Chieftan Warren McAston hesitates, 'I-'
You say, 'McAston. Kill this upstart. There can be no witnesses to what I'm doing.'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'I... I understand...'
a Halas soldier looks at Chieftan Warren McAston in fear.
You say, 'Very good. I'm glad you are starting to understand your place
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'Yes <Player Name>. Newport isn't happy with us <Player Name>. They are sending a diplomat here to try and resolve issues.'
You say, 'I understand. I will set an ambush for the diplomat. Bring them to the well and I will kill them myself.'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'Yes <Player Name>. Wait in the well, <Player Name>, and I will bring them. Diplomats have escorts. Be prepared for a fight <Player Name>.'

Go to the well in the southeast corner of Halas and swim to the bottom.

Something dangerous is occuring in the town squire. Wise adventures would stay clear.
You here people talking and gathering around the well itself...
Diplomat Daars shouts, 'Treachery! Escorts, destroy the traitors!'

Swim up to and attackDiplomat Daars and a silvercrown escort.

Note: These mobs do not give faction hits
Diplomat Daars says, 'McAston! Don't just stand there! Rally your troops!'

Kill Diplomat Daars and a silvercrown escort.

Return to Chieftan Warren McAston.

You say, 'Hail, Chieftan Warren McAston'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'It is done. Emma wished to speak to you... about the cure for my family...'
You say, 'Soon enough. I'll speak to Emma for the time being.'
Chieftan Warren McAston says, 'Very well...'

Return to Emma Gemcutter.

You say, 'Hail, Emma Gemcutter'
Emma looks sickly and ghastly thin. 'Master... a letter for you. And a gift! But- I need your Scar of Panic. To show them I am loyal too! Give it to me! And you can have the letter and gift.'

Give her your Voice's Scar of Gradalsh.

You gain 50000 experience!!

Emma grasps the Scar and rubs it gingerly before afixing it to herself. 'I- I shouldn't have given you up my beautiful. Oh yes. This came for you from Brother Afevan.'

You receive Letter from Afaven from Emma Gemcutter.

You receive Eye's Scar of Gradalsh from Emma Gemcutter.

You say, 'Hail, Emma Gemcutter'
Emma is still playing with the Scar, muttering to herself. 'See... I'm back Gradalsh- I never meant to leave- I was always loyal at heart-'
You say, 'I have business to attend too. You are not to leave the city.'
Emma looks at you in desparation. 'Maybe- the cure before you go...'
You say, 'Silly girl. No. Not until I return.'
Emma whimpers and nods.

Find Cheiftain Warren McAston in Halas.

You say, 'Hail, Chieftain Warren McAston'
Chieftain Warren McAston looks at you blankly. 'Yes?'
You say, 'I have business to attend too. You are to continue the course, and not assist Newport in any way.'
Chieftain Warren McAston stares at you in disbelief. 'L-Leaving? But my family is still-'
You say, 'Your hands are red McAston. Don't pull anything funny, or you'll never see me again.'
Chieftain Warren McAston nods grimly. 'I understand.'
