Archived patch notes from 2015.

Patch Notes - 12/31/2015

Happy New Year (almost) Dalayans! Patch notes are as follows:

  • Most broken combines should be fixed
  • /cm tomes will show you what tomes you have completed, and what you are working on
  • Clickies the run out of charges should no longer bug out casting
  • Items looted from corpses should show up as links
  • Food/drink should be correctly consumed now
  • Most non-elevator doors (including teleporters) should be working correctly now. Elevators are still broken for reasons that currently elude me
  • AAs should not crash zones now
  • Boats should have working models
- taryth

Patch Notes - 12/29/2015

It may not seem like it, but this was a massive patch to fix a significant number of data issues. Highlights:

  • Missing spawns should no longer be missing!
  • Merchant buy/sell improvements (yes, I know items don't show when sold until you reload that merchant, and buying an item closes the merchant window - working on that)
  • Cooldowns apply to AAs again
  • Divine Unbinding should FINALLY be fixed!

The biggest change though: announcing alternate currencies! In the process of upgrading merchants, we opted to remove the cruft around the old Thurgadin bounty token code. THURG BOUNTY TOKENS ARE NOW A FORM OF CURRENCY! What does this mean?

  • Once you load in once, your "tokens" (flags) will be converted to hard currency. You will see this in the Alternate Currency tab of your inventory window.
  • The Thurgadin bounty merchants will directly accept these forms of currency - they open a slightly different merchant window that will show how many tokens you have at that rank. You buy items just like anything else - difference is it uses the correct token rather than platinum
  • You NO LONGER need to give platinum to Thurgadin merchants - they deal only in Token currency
  • The Coordinator that used to tell you how many tokens you has is now silent on the matter. Instead, look in your Alt Currency tab in Inventory

This is the FIRST NEW SoD feature, and also the first to use a brand new icon! We will eventually make Fame a currency as well, and will add others, too. The reason for doing this now is a side effect of cleaning up merchants. Feel free to ask in IRC if you are confused about any of this. Ultimately, it's a much cleaner and more trackable system, and we think you'll really like it!

Patch Notes - 12/27/2015

  • Some improvements to money handling, though there are still issues we're working on. ** If your money appears "wrong", try relogging to make sure - this is a known issue and seems to just be a display bug. **
  • More activatable AA fixes (15 affected)
  • Inspect should handle slots better
  • Can buy player items correctly now
  • Swarm pets of many varieties should work now
  • Other stuff and things no one but us cares about

We will have more merchant/money handling fixes incoming very soon (was hoping to get them tonight). Please report any confirmed dupe bugs immediately in /petition - I didn't find any, but there's always risk editing merchant code. It goes without saying, intentionally exploiting dupe or money bugs is a jailiable/bannable offense, so please check with us if you think there's a problem. You WILL NOT get in trouble for simply reporting it, you're more likely to get our thanks.

- taryth

Patch Notes - 12/26/2015

  • Beastlord stances should work
  • Spirit Speed should now correctly carry out Hakahm's Companion Curse
  • Most activated AAs should now work
  • GFlux is back as an effect!
  • Removed ability timer from Track
  • Clients should be trackable again
- taryth

Patch Notes - 12/23/2015

  • Silence should no longer bug your ability to cast/attack/etc. permanently
  • Group buffs should only hit raid if duration >= 150 (like 2.0)
  • Runspeed slightly increased, let's see how that looks
  • Numerous group fixes

We have also temporarily increased the exp bonus to 50% (!) Just our way of wishing you happy holidays and thanking you for your patience during the 2.5 transition.

- taryth

Patch Notes - 12/22/2015

Going to try to keep up with patch notes a little better.

  • Quivers and other items which summon stacks should work correctly. In fact, many clickies should be fixed
  • Clicking items should not longer remove 2 charges
  • Fixed a crash in gfay
  • Significant improvements to zoning code. Should notice far fewer disconnects and other weird issues when LD/zoning
  • You can remove items from world tradeskill containers without them poofing and you getting disconnected. WARNING!!!! If you simply walk away, the items will poof still! Make sure you reclaim the items!! (This will get fixed at some point)
  • Items with haste listed on them should actually grant haste now!

Other notes:

  • Boats need a bit of work. For now, I will place Taryth's Little Helpers at boat zone points that can take you to various locations

As for other things currently being worked on:

  • Activatable AA fixes soon
  • Broken spell fixes
  • Review of mob DPS
  • Runspeed fixes

Please don't ask timelines on things or what will be included. We are working extremely hard and trying to triage as best we can. We're getting there now, but we still have a ways to go. So keep submitting /bug reports - that is where we are going to find things. Immediate needs (missing items, etc.) can still be petitioned. Please understand that we cannot possibly track personal requests, IRC comments or forum feedback - if it's not in /bug, chances are we won't be looking at it just because we can't. So again, use /bug always please!

Patch Notes - 12/16/2015

2.5 is finally here

After several years of work and an immeasurable number of man-hours, the 2.5 client update is live. The update entailed a massive overhaul of most of our server code and allows us to use a much more modern client than before. On top of this, we're also now listed on the official EQEmulator server list which opens the server up to a wider audience.
As with any sort of major upgrade, there are bugs to be expected. If you find any issues, please use the in-game /bug command to report them. We'll be checking these reports frequently so we can get things ironed out as quickly as possible.

T:hank you to all the testers who helped with the beta and reported issues to get to where we are now.

Lastly and certainly not least, we couldn't have accomplished this major upgrade without the huge amount of work from Taryth, Secrets and KLS. They all put a ton of time into this project.

2.5 Release Date

Folks,
I was hoping to release 2.5 this week (12/12), but there are still a few late things that we can't go live with. Rather than risking a disaster of rollbacks and more broken stuff, we need to push this back a week. As such, let's hold off a week and go for 12/19. I'm sorry for the repeated delays, but I'd rather do this than release something that I'm just not comfortable with.
So plan for Saturday, 12/19!
- taryth

Patch Notes - 12/07/2015

Winter is coming... and so is 2.5 Thanks to Secrets, we've now got dual login support for 2.5 which means we will be listed on the official EQEmu login servers as well as continuing to run our own login server. This won't affect any existing accounts; you will still be able to log in as normal. Being listed on the EQEmu login server exposes us to the thousands of active players of various EQEmu servers. Speaking of winter, the 2.0 codebase has been frozen and I'm currently working through merging the last several years of code changes forward. Once this is complete we'll need to do some final testing for regressions, but we're in the home stretch.

MUST READ: 2.5 Go Live

We've posted some very important information on 2.5 go-live. Folks need to be familiar with it, and I highly suggest getting a working copy of 2.5 installed ASAP.
https://shardsofdalaya.com/forum/threads/2-5-go-live-please-read.29918/
Please don't wait until the last minute! The sooner you get ready, the more availability we have to help fix issues. We are finalizing the migration of 2.0 patches to 2.5, resolving a few more crash bugs, copying our tools to 2.5 and we're gonna kick this pig, so please be ready.
Staff is available in IRC (#25Testing) to assist with migration issues. If I am in game, feel free to ask me there as well - it's perfectly fine to send me tells pre-2.5.
This is very exciting for us. While the learning curve may be a bit steep and there will be short-term frustrations, we think you'll really like it. :)

Change to First Ruins Bloodfire/Rohk Policy

The policy with respect to the "Rohk area" has been updated. The new policy is as follows:
  • "The entirety of the Tarhyl area, everything past bloodfires, is now 6man only (including Rohk and Elders). No 7th man rezzing or buffing will be allowed past bloodfires."
- taryth

Patch Notes - 11/18/2015

Clarification of Yclist Policies, and Engagement Change

There have been questions in the past about whether certain things are allowed vs. not allowed in Yclist. We discussed this and thought we'd clarify a few things:
1) You MAY use the piranha tunnels to bypass the gate. You may find a few more of them, however. But the intent is you may choose whichever method you prefer. What is NOT acceptable is shrinking or any other techniques to sneak through the gate. Confront the mobs or use the water tunnels - those are your options.
2) The "banner method" for getting up outside Kli'kil's room has been been ambiguous. Generally, some leeway has been given to people collecting pages only. Apparently though, people have used this as a quick way to bypass intended trash on the way to bosses. As such:
  • You MAY use the "shortcut" if you are up collecting pages. Note that you still have to deal with trash if they are up, of course.
  • You MAY NOT use the shortcut to bypass content (up to and including Animation and that whole area) if you are engaging a boss, notably Kli'kil and Fer'din. In fact, if you fail to clear the trash when you go to engage them, you will find they have a new trick up their sleeve, one you won't like.
Please note, on this latter point, that you will need to make sure to clear out the enchanters near Prime Enchanter's area (hint, hint). This includes BOTH RAMPS up to Kli'kil, make sure you're getting the new enchanters on each ramp up (that's 2 new mobs, can be solo pulled). This is really the only change as long as you have been clearing appropriately (and you really won't notice it beyond 2 extra trash to clear), but PLEASE make sure you get both ramp mobs, or bad things will happen to your poor raid.

Any questions, catch me in game or IRC.

Patch Notes - 10/10/2015

2.5 Update

  • Made some major fixes to groups and raids, hopefully they work better now. Don't expect advanced functionality like locking, group transfer, etc. to work yet; that will happen shortly after release.
  • Fixed certain weapons crashing zones (like Spirit-Harvest)
- taryth

Patch Notes - 10/04/2015

2.0 Patch

Some minor but interesting patch notes:
  • OMG Thek`rak should be fixed after umpteen years of being broken! The AE that fired when it wasn't supposed to should behave now. There may be other fights affected as well, particularly ones where you need to be either in line of sight or out for an AE.
  • Silly Lua debug message is gone
  • Changes for the hopefully eventual return of Nadox someday
  • Couple other internal fixes
- taryth

Patch Notes - 09/25/2015

Latest 2.5 Updates

  • Cooldowns on clickies should work again
  • Resist AAs should no longer be out of whack when obtaining the first rank of Advanced resists
  • Archetype abilities require 6 general AAs, and class requires 6 general plus 12 archetypes. That said, we have opted not to have the other prerequisites enabled, at least for now
- taryth

Patch Notes - 09/22/2015

2.5 Update

We know there are still issues logging into some zones. I'm working on that.
Big update solving a lot of inventory problems and a few other things:
  • Can now read book contents
  • Problems with Dream items being wrong and odd spell mem problems should be gone
  • Problems occurring with items given by quest NPCs should be much, much better
  • NPCs should no longer spawn sitting
  • Con levels, most notably of adepts, should be correct now
  • Clickies like Crystal Cactus Pod and other things that use Produce should work now and not take 30 seconds to cast
  • Bard songs are once again limited to 2 beneficial melodies
  • World tradeskill containers should work now. We have disabled the more advanced functionality that helps make tradeskills less painful for now, we're deciding what to do with it. For now, it should reasonably mirror 2.0
- taryth

Patch Notes - 09/20/2015

2.5 Back Up, and updates

The migration to new hardware was successful. Performance is still not ideal, but it seems far better, give it a go.
Changes so far:
  • Should be able to delete your characters now
- taryth

Patch Notes - 09/18/2015

2.5 Hardware Upgrade

Folks,
We are aware that people have had lag and zoning problems in 2.5. I believe this is a result of not having enough resources available, but we can't easily allocate more without impacting 2.0. It seems we might be impacting 2.0 a bit already, so...
This weekend we will be putting 2.5 beta on its own hardware. This should help with a lot of these problems, and alleviate some of the slowness/zoning problems on 2.0 as well. 2.5 may be down for a short bit as we cut over, but 2.0 will not be affected.
Please let us know if this helps, I certainly expect it to.
- taryth

Patch Notes - 09/15/2015

2.5 Status Update

  • Added /cm idied command. This will summon "Oops I Killed You Bot" which will help by removing death fatigue and restoring HP and mana. He also does a heck of a show. There can be only 6 in a zone at a time, if there are too many dancing, wait a few then summon one.
  • Zone to cesspits is fixed. Additionally, some other area-based events should work
  • Factions should be ok now

One Good Weekend Event Announcement

Announcing that the fabled One Good Weekend has been located and it is HALLOWEEN weekend of all the times of the year.
What does this mean? It means we are prepared to unleash SoD 2.5 on you, the cool and deserving playerbase. We're sewing up a few bugs, practicing our migration techniques, and putting our money where our mouth has been for like five years. SoD 2.5 opens up so many avenues for development that I am crazy thinking about it. Also it removes several long-standing and otherwise irreparable bugs.
Taryth says we're ready!
October 31st is a long ways away though, so what can we all do in the meantime?
First, go read a thread about it. Go help test, get excited, find bugs!
Second, we are having a DEV Q&A this Thursday, the 17th of September at 6PM PST. I will be there, but more importantly Taryth the architect of 2.5 will be there to field any questions about the imminent upgrade. Maybe build some hype? Maybe give away a prize? I don't know, weird things happen when devs congregate.
I am super excited about this and waiting these few last weeks is going to be torture!
2.5!!!!

Patch Notes 09/10/2015

2.5 Update

For folks playing on the beta 2.5 server, a few big updates:
  • AA points should be refunded the first time you log in. You can then re-purchase AAs under the new system
  • Mobs should drop loot again
  • Pets should actually attack and behave, though they still warp around
  • / and /who should no longer crash zones
  • Messages like crits and DD should now show their numbers correctly
  • Duping/unable to destroy item bug is fixed
  • Pets should no longer have crazy hitpoints or hit for randomly insane amounts of damage
  • Major improvements to performance in some zones. Hopefully there's better stability in some locations. Note that Tears of Elael is still problematic - I suspect it's due to the large number of mobs and the fact we don't have a ton of resources allocated for the beta server. I depopped all the mobs in TOE in order to allow people to zone and such (enjoy!), but if you need something from there like a quest drop or something, let me know and I will get that spawned for you. Once we go live, I think the problem will go away.

Patch Notes - 08/25/2015

Server Downtime 8/28

There will downtime affecting ALL services including game and website beginning at 00:00 Eastern on August 28th.
This is now complete.
This this the first big step towards getting ourselves transitioned over to 2.5. We should have some more exciting 2.5 news coming soon!

Patch Notes - 07/02/2015

Bleep! The Scrap Heap is online!

Are you into puzzles?
Do you sometimes like doing tradeskills?
Or quests?
Okay for the two people still reading this update, please enjoy the Scrap Heap - a self-contained story zone with some fights, some puzzles, a bit of loot, and some interesting mechanics. The zone doesn't really support more than one group (it's kinda small) but feel free to go with as many people as you like. The combat difficulty (ho-hum) is like Kaesora+ (sometimes).
Oh I forgot to say where it is.. uh.. I dunno.. the badlands? Maybe?
- Slaariel

Patch Notes - 06/28/2015

Damage is now sent to all group/raid members regardless of distance to make parsing entire raids easier. In other news, progress is progressively progressing on 2.5 and we should have the new beta server ready for you to poke at relatively soon. The majority of our development focus is going towards 2.5, so patches and work on 2.0 has been somewhat sparse other than bug fixes.

Another Successful Donation Drive

Well, you guys did it - we made our goal of an additional 10%, and thus we are pleased to run 50% exp bonuses through 6/16! Keep an eye out for Blessings of the Gods standing around in zones - hail one and the global exp bonus will jump to 100% for a few hours, plus you win some personal thanks as well! They can look like anything in the zone, are not trackable, and will not announce their presence after they initially show up. There is one up as of now (May 28th morning) in fact...I will post a couple of hints on our SoD Facebook page.
As is tradition, we will be holding a lottery for donators. This will be held Saturday May 30th at 6pm Eastern, 3pm Pacific in Athica. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE PRESENT TO WIN (though we may give away some additional stuff to folks who ARE there)! The lottery has two parts - one is based on one entry per dollar donated during the drive, the other is one entry per donation, which includes regular donators! We will announce winners on the forums following the event.
Saturday morning I will run a Karit's Crates event, location TBD, I'm aiming for about Noon Eastern, 9am Pacific. I will make a global announcement before the event as to where to be, but show up for some fun prizes and occasional...well, lousy prizes.
Finally, we need help spreading the word about the server - we now have an advertising budget and are looking for creative ways to get the word out. If you have ideas, want to build some art, etc., reach out to us in IRC or in game and we'll work with you. Heck, you might even earn some fame in the process!
Thanks again folks, we are always blown away by the success of these events. This year was so great in fact, we're using a bit of the proceeds to fund some additional coding help on 2.5, which is making great progress, and is the best advertisement we could possibly have.. Once the drive is done, stay tuned for news on that front as well.
- taryth

Patch Notes - 05/17/2015

In order to support some of the new things for the account drive, we needed code, hence the patch. Things of note:

  • Blessing of the Gods is now a thing. It functions similarly to a Golden Beast, except you will not know what zone it might appear in, and it can look like anything in that zone. The server will be reminded of its existence every 10 minutes when it appears. Hailing (NOT KILLING) it will bless the server with a global experience bonus for a few hours!
  • Tokens of Ascendance are in game. These rare treats will be rewards during the account drive. As to what they do, well, when we dole out the first one, we'll tell ya. :)
  • Mob swarm pets (NOT players) should be targetable so they are easier to kill
  • Drop rate for world drops is temporarily doubled so that new players can get some gear more easily.

Watch for additional events coming up for the donation drive! If you haven't already, consider donating to our advertising/server promotion fund at https://shardsofdalaya.com/donations. For those of you who have donated, thank you so much for supporting the server!

- taryth

Patch Notes - 05/13/2015

The 2015 Account Drive has begun! Please visit https://shardsofdalaya.com/donations to make a "special" donation to help us advertise and build up the server! Over the next few weeks, we will be running special events and giving away lots of cool stuff. Encourage your friends to come play, or maybe return! And yes, we will certainly have a bonus experience period after the donations have completed, as well as the lottery and such that players love. But we've also got some new things to offer as well, including GM-driven events and a global event that we think the entire server will enjoy. :) Follow us on Facebook for the latest information, and keep an eye on the forums as well!

Patch Notes - 05/11/2015

More Beastlord Changes

Hopefully I've found a happy medium on beastlords now, particularly with mimic. The latest changes are here:
  • Pets will NOT benefit from Shared Power AA while in mimic stance. This was just skewing numbers too far. The downside to this is that pets hit substantially less (in some cases less than base) which would be very complicated to fix. As such, the compromises are:
  • AEs will now once again have a 100% chance to mimic, though they shouldn't "overmimic" now (basically N^2 mimics based on number of targets!)
  • Beneficial spells will also be allowed to mimic IF you are in combat. This shouldn't be much of a restriction
  • Cunning, Soothing and Runic 1 pet will NOT mimic. I may add additional exceptions later, but right now these are the three that are of most interest
  • The Endurance bump from Companion Surge just wasn't what I wanted. To compensate, I've made the CS line add ATK instead, made it a small bard-style duration buff and lowered the cost on /s 8 slightly
Once again, I am going to let changes settle a bit before making more changes. I think this is going to be pretty close to what I want. Yes, I still need to put in pet AA survivability and some itemization stuff, but I can do that at any time. I want to get core changes down.

Other Changes

  • Feign Death and DA will now interrupt Abstraction of Flame. Both spells are intended to prevent additional spell casts. Abstraction is a little unique in how it's processed which is why this was excluded. If you've been using it as intended, you will see no change. ;)
  • You will no longer be able to proc your own chest reactive slots

Patch Notes - 04/26/2015

Quite a few updates

Beastlord Changes!
I'm overall very pleased with beastlord changes, and it seems most players are too. Always nice. That said, some areas are more out-of-whack than I expected, so I wanted to make some targeted changes. As I told someone, it's like carving a sculpture, we've got the rough cuts done, now it's the refinement steps.
Also, due to client limitations, the timer in the AA window *is wrong* and cannot be fixed I guess until 2.5. Lame. The true timer remains at 30 minutes.
Here are the changes:
  • Procs will now only have a chance to mimic. The chance is governed by the level of your pet and the nature of the spell (single target, PBAE, etc.) as well as whether it costs you mana. I think this was one of the biggest things that went much further than I wanted.
  • Pet curse will only affect "primary" pets - swarms and such will not receive the benefit.
  • The cost of mimic stance was increased last week, it should not replace things like /s 2. I'm going to leave it where it is for awhile and see how that looks.
  • You will no longer get stunned when your swarm pets die, thank goodness
  • ALL BL pets will now proc a stam/mana spell on their master. The amount scales along with the level of the pet. Here again, I just made these numbers up based on some other things, so they may get dialed up or down once I start seeing some metrics roll in.
  • The "half cost" spell that R2 pet procs now sends an extra message like a rogue opening that lets you know when you can take advantage of it, should make it easier to filter
  • Message for WW now activates BEFORE the pet actually does it
  • You won't get a stupid message when casting things like beneficial spells that won't work while in /s 8
Overgrowth Fixes!
  • Warden Wevrynn is finally ready to accept the pendants from the Circle's leaders. There is power that lurks deep within The Overgrowth
  • Kara`kadar has been adjusted to be roughly a tier 11 fight
  • Eniva the Troubadour has finally been fixed
  • Prime Warden Jenrok has been changed a bit
Miscellaneous
  • Reanimated priest got nerfed...in a good way. While the fight was always hard, it's now working FULLY correctly (it wasn't in its original incarnation) and was just too hard for its tier. AE damage has been reduced and main tank should get pummelled less. Also, might want to JI it...
  • Thaz Earth boss is currently unavailable - he had an exploitable problem that we haven't had time to look at yet. Mini should still be doable if you are so inclined.

Patch Notes - 04/21/2015

Some New Beastlord Changes Active...

  • So a few new beastlord things are active. You will find Gelid Blood (L58) available on merchants. There is also a new quest which will unlock your beast's true potential, as well as explaining the new skills and stances you have. It is a quick quest, primarily designed for lore.
  • A couple more changes to pets will be incoming in the next couple days, then I'm going to let things settle for a bit to see how things look.
- taryth

Patch Notes - 04/21/2015

Most of the patch stuff is in preparation for Beastlord changes, most of which I expect to roll this week. However, as of right now the following are available:

  • Gelid Blood - a lower-level version of the new BL cold dot line is in game. I haven't put it on merchants yet, but it will be buyable sometime this week
  • Spirit Speed AA has been replaced by Hakahm's Companion Curse. This allows all non-charmed pets (not just the BL!) to crit for its 24 second duration
  • Plague should no longer be available to BLs (replaced by cold dot line)

Once I finish testing stuff, I will turn on the following:

  • 2 new stances
  • Pet damage ramp up as mob HP decreases
  • BL gets a percentage of the above multiplier
  • R2 pet improvements
  • All pets will proc a stam/mana burst for their masters which scales according to level

Feedback is welcome! Please don't ask for any other changes until these are in,, fully tested and evaluated. Again, I reserve the right to back anything down that ends up being terribly out of whack, though thanks to a lot of tester help, I think that will be minimal.

The Biggest Change to SoD...Possibly Ever

EDIT: Happy April Fools!

So after careful consideration (and a LOT of internal fighting) and feedback from the player community, we have decided to proceed with a server wipe. On the plus side, we were able to keep players intact; we have merely reverted everyone to level 1, removed equipment and such and started everyone back in The Dream. We know this is a controversial decision, and it's not one we made lightly. Feedback on the forums is welcome, just please keep it civil. With the rollback however come a couple of new changes for Beastlords:

  • 2 new spells are in game, though not yet memmable (obviously it will be a bit before folks get back up to 65). As people progress, I will be working with BLs to make sure we get it right from the start. One is a DoT to replace Plague, though that is still memmable for now.
  • Venom of the Wild got a bit of a bump
- taryth
Note: The change to Beastlords was not part of the April Fools prank.

  • Load in zones should be reduced (no more mobs chain casting buffs)

Patch Notes - 01/17/2015

Speaking of Prime Enchanter

  • The encounter has been modified to get rid of the orbs once the enchanter himself is dead. Let us all rejoice.

Patch Notes - 01/15/2015

Two fixes

  • Prime Enchanter now has a better sense of color (the previously incorrect "orange" emote is now "yellow" to match the rest of the encounter)
  • Tinkerer Garstik should now behave correctly when you give him what he asks for

Patch Notes - 01/11/2015

Probably final Monk changes (for now)!

  • Monks have an innate accuracy bonus to make up for the loss of /s 15
  • Monks who are attacking the same mob for thirty seconds will now get a sizeable damage bonus for that mob. I don't expect this to happen all the time! But it should be a nice boost on some raid mobs.
  • Monk DPS and tankability are now better than they have been at any point in SoD history so let's all rejoice about that.

Patch Notes - 01/11/2015

A new year and a new patch of notes.

  • A bug was fixed with focus effects from spells not using the highest value correctly (Cunning, etc)
  • /cm autofire can now be explicitly toggled on or off in macros. For example /cm autofire on will always turn autofire on even if it's already on
  • Augs with instrument modifiers should work properly now
  • Details of more monk changes to come when slaariel wakes up
