Patch Notes - 12/19/2008

Sihala AND Tarhyl Augs?!

Our illustrious Dev-Cyzaine has released both the Sihala and Tarhyl Deity quests! The remaining quests are coming down the pike - stay tuned.
As an aside raid respawn timers have been lowered slightly to help with the current bottle neck (how dare you all want to play on our server). In addition to this we are trying out a new and improved respawn randomization schema that may also help smooth things out. Hint: Not all zones are timed exactly the same anymore.
We have a fairly big release planned to drop around new years. Cross your fingers!

Raid Commands

New Raid command:
  • /cm raiddestroy - completely destroys the raid you are in for yourself and anyone else in it. Usable by all, but don't abuse it or it will become raid-leader only.
  • /cm raidremove - Remove character from your raid, regardless of location or online status. Usable only by raid leader.
Miscellaneous changes:
  • /cm listreject now shows you the next item you have waiting in the mail.

Elemental Damage, Thazeran Augs and More!

Elemental Damage
In preperation for the new items in Ikisith and beyond, the functionality of +elemental damage has been changed! From this point forward every point of +fire damage will increase the damage of fire spells, every point of +magic will increase magic spells etc... This allows us greatly flexibility in items for casters and melee alike. For Rain spells damage is split across each wave, for DoT's the damage is added in all together to the last tic. Spells must cost more than 300 mana to be affected by elemental damage, or be a weapon proc. +elemental damage will not help increase the damage on Festering curse. Please bug report any oddities you may come across regarding this addition.
Thazeran Augs
Quested augmentations in Thazeran's Tower have been adjusted to be balanced for all elements. There should no longer be one best augment per class.
Plane of Frost
A new named has been added to Plane of Frost. Also many items in the zone have been tweaked.
Vendor and Unbinder Changes
  • Vendors now accurately state what prices they will pay for items with augments. They now do indeed pay more for items with augments.
  • Unbinders now charge correspondingly more to unbind items with augments.
  • Vendors no longer cheat you out of a cp on occasion for items without augments!
Plane of Earth
  • The S.U.B.W.A.Y system has been tweaked to be much more safe and convenient.
  • (Next Patch) A new item drops around the zone called a Phantasmal Husk. Appropriate use of this item plants a "Phantasmal Ward" at your camp. This ward fends away all wandering mobs in a certain radius around your camp for three minutes.

The New Patcher!

First a message from Gunder about the new patcher he wrote for us. As he says below switching to the new patcher will be mandatory!
New Shards Patcher!!!
We are pleased to announce the release of a new patcher for SoD. This new version:
  • looks much better!
  • no longer requires the .net framework which will cause fewer compatibility issues across platforms
  • will update itself when new versions are available
  • provides us much more flexibility in what can be patched
Look for more features to be added later. You can download the new patcher here!.
There will be a 1 week period where both patchers will continue to work, after which the old patcher will be discontinued. Please download the new patcher and try it out to work out any issues before then.

As for this weekends downtime we are going to be adding bonus exp to all zones from Sunday the 16th through Tuesday the 18th of this month. Also we are going to be giving a bit of fame out to the top ten levelers on Xardon's temporary fun server that has been up.
We appreciate everyone's patience during the downtime. Although these outages are few and far between we understand how inconvenient they can be when they do happen.

Patch Notes - 09/28/2008

Raid Tweaks

The following encounters have been slightly changed to stop unintended actions that make the fights much easier.
  • The Eternal Well encounter has been sped up to its previous speed. I am still not 100% sure why it was slowed down but I think it had to do with a code change that went into one of its primary functions. Either way there are no more 10 minute waits between mobs.
  • The Generals encounter in Tower of Tarhyl has been tweaked to both make kiting much easier and tanking harder.
  • A certain section of the Enthann encounter has been reconfigured so you can not pause the script and med to full. A certain spell has been added to offset the higher difficulty this causes.
  • Two encounters in the Plane of Frost have been changed to be less specific class demanding.
These changes were all offset as to not make the fights harder. Instead they take out aspects that allow you to trivialize large portions of the fight by using unforeseen exploitative strategies.

Also to fill a belated promise I give you Ikisith Spoilers!

  • There will be 26 zones upon release. Including 5 group dungeons and 7 raid specific zones.
  • Currently there are over 100 tomes slated for the expansion with more being dreamed up as we go.
  • Check the spell parser for your class. You might find something interesting. (Although not finalized)
  • The main quest is going to integrate directly into Ikisith. Have you finished yours yet?

Patch Notes - 09/23/2008

Azmaen, Heart of Frost

Shojar's Plane of Frost is looking to make its appearance on Thursday as Azmaen, The Heart of Frost.
Azmaen will span tier 8 and early tier 9 meaning difficulty will be on par with Lower Thazeran's Tower and the Lower Tower of Tarhyl. It is about equal in size to the similar portions of the previous two zones mentioned.
This is step 1 of 2 of our effort to help the congestion currently in this raid tier. Be aware that step 2 is most likely a long ways down the road so be sure to take advantage of the extra options this new zone adds now rather than later.

Patch Notes - 09/14/2008

The Deep

The final zone in the Vah mini expansion has been added - The Deepshade!
The Deepshade is a zone suited for level 58+ characters that borders on Runnyeye. It has a layout slightly different then the normal experience zone so be sure to explore!
Finally its "cash payout" is also different than other zones. You will notice an artificially low amount of actual money coming out of the monsters themselves but should also notice something else balancing the zones rewards.

Patch Notes - 09/12/2008

The Vah

Thanks to the efforts of Cvetkaa and her friends in Exodus, the Vah are once again active on Dalaya. Their home zone of tarhylcrags is now live, as is the lowbie dungeon Runnyeye nearby it, and Vah characters can now be created. Be warned that the naming policy will be strictly enforced for these characters, and until we say otherwise, anyone making deliberately terrible names will have their main jailed for a week. Otherwise, play nice and have fun with the new content!
Note: Tarhylcrags is a GoD zone, and requires Gates of Discord files to play.
The Mountain Crags of Tarhyl contains content for characters levels 1-15, along with a large amount of class quests for Vah classes and general quests available to anyone who works up faction with the city (through quests obtainable there).
The Runnyeye Citadel contains content for characters levels 10-35. It is a dungeon zone open to all players, though extremely high-level characters may find themselves very unwelcome indeed...

A new quest for low-tier level 65 players has been added to the Southern Wastes of Tarhyl. A new quest for high-tier level 65 players has been added to the Fire Grottos. Bonetower, Siege Golem is once again active in Kaezul's armies.

Oggok Mines

A new zone for level 5-30 players has been released. Situated at the back of the city of the Oggok, the Oggok mines features both hunting and alignment-heavy quests from the two factions fighting over dominance in the mines.
Currently only the first tier of quests are implemented, and Oggok Mines will be available for level 30 and below players only until it is fully finished.

On the Ikisith front things are going fairly well. The first six zones are almost completely done with a fair amount of work being spread around all other areas. Of course thats completely ignoring the huge amount of work that has been put into spells, items, abilities, tomes and the like that have been put in since the teaser post. So what exactly have we been doing? Our local coder Gunder has been slaving away plugging memory holes to make way for the extra server load and new features. Tyrsell has been focusing on the Deity quests but has still had time to almost completely finish a zone or two. Xardon spent hours getting all the zonelines functioning and streamlined. Finally Zaela has been trying her hand at zone creation instead of item creation. Not only is her zone beginning to shape up very nicely but she has not broken the server even once doing it. Now you might think that is not the most impressive statistic but compare it to my first zone (3 server breaks) or Tyrsell's (1209.5 server breaks^) and you begin to see the picture. Till the next update! Perhaps with a bit of tome teasers. ^Dalayan Census Bureau - 4689 AF Statistics. Estimated to the nearest half server break.

Patch Notes - 07/19/2008

It Comes.

Deck hands scramble to place several large wooden crates neatly in the the spacious cargo hold that surrounds you. Suddenly you feel the crate that you are hiding in being lifted up. You take a moment to consider what is happening but mid-thought you are thrown harshly onto a pile of other boxes and chests - anything to make more room for the objects of the Kaezulian Empires greed you suppose. As the large Iksar deck hands finish their work and begin filing out of the hold to resume their other duties you close your eyes and allow your mind to wander.
Perhaps stowing away on a Kaezulian ship is not the most triumphant entrance into Ikisith, but it is only the beginning. Kaezul must feel the retribution of the Old World and you will be amongst those who inflict it.
After some time you force yourself to fall asleep. There will be plenty of time to begin avenging your dead brethren in the morning when the ship docks in the heart of Ikisith.

Introducing "Shards of Dalaya: Fury of Kaezul" the second full expansion in Shards of Dalayas history. (Working title) Featuring:

  • Kaezulian spells to pilfer allowing all classes to both progress current abilities and add new ones.
  • Dozens of new tomes to advance or specialize your character!
  • 22 completely new zones featuring level 55+ content for both casual players and raiders alike!
  • A progressive raid sequence allowing Dalayans to finally confront the Kaezulian Empire in its own territory!
  • Dozens of new quests spanning from short experience tasks to epic undertakings.
  • A lore-rich storyline that finally reveals the origins of the suffering that has been inflicted on Dalaya for so long.
  • Hundreds of new items for you to equip and deck out your character.

Development has already begun. Expect to get your chance to brave Ikisith soon.

Patch Notes:

  • New loots have been added to all the mini bosses in the PoTorment Tower Event. This should stop guilds from having the mini loots rot way before being done with the boss.
  • Ton of back end stuff for the deity quests. They are finally on the horizon folks.
  • Lots of back end stuff for Ikisith. Also congratulations on reading the first ever front page update confirming work on the Ikisith expansion has started.
  • City of Mercy is well on its way. Expect a release within a couple weeks.

On Sunday, July 6th at 5:30 PST (That is 12:30 am GMT) there will be a server wide lotto!

Edit- It has come to my attention that you Yankees are celebrating your fourth of July. In that case pretend this was originally titled "The Couple Days Late 4th of July Celebration Lotto" or "The Week Belated Canadian Day Lotto" or something equally festive!

Now for the upcoming patch:

  • Very Difficult and higher treasure maps will now have a small chance to drop relic spell scrolls.
  • Vendor prices for trade skill made armor have been increased across the board.
  • Spells in the Boon of the Garou line no longer land on players outside of the Enchanters group or raid.
  • Planar Raid Mobs have had their timers increased slightly in response to the fact that there are many more planes available to raid compared to when the respawn was first set. We will be watching this and adjusting it as needed.
  • All tradeskilled augments have been renamed to signify their statistic and type.

Tower of Tarhyl Weapon Quest Change

Due to a few people getting the idea that it is legitimate to follow other guilds to complete the last part of this quest (which spawns a hand in mob that stays up for a short while after you slay him) you now are required by flag to kill the mob who spawns the mob you have to hand into. (Cryptic enough for you non raiders?)
Those of you who just could not wait till your own guild is able to do this part of the quest have had their quests reverted to pre hand in status.

Online Vendor Search Beta!

Many years ago in the land of our ancestors a ranger named Aeran started work on what would be called behind close doors project "Ruin the Economy phase 3". Many hours were spent on the project but alas - the forces of evil kept it from being released due to small issues with the code.
Recently the torn and broken fragments of the ancient project were found by one who goes by the name of Aomi. Using the lost knowledge of his aforementioned ancestor he has been able to create this.

Patch Notes - 05/26/2008

Two Zones and an Announcement

  • The Plane of Fire has been released for public consumption. Our very own Dev-Cyzaine has spent the last couple months perfecting this as his first zone and I must say it has turned out pretty awesome. It also rings in his being promoted from trainee to full Developer - so be sure to congratulate him if you happen to see him around!

The plane itself is early tier 6 through mid tier 7 and can be reached via wizard port spell or The Ruins of the First City.

  • The Plane of Entropy is now ready to accept adventurers. My very own Admin-Woldo created the zone and was demoted back to Dev-Woldo because he wanted his spiel on PoEntropy to be as long as the one for PoFire above. Miraculously even in his demoted state he re-promoted himself to admin and everyone lived happily ever after. (3 words longer).

The plane itself is mid tier 4 to late tier 5 and can be reached via wizard port spell or a hard entrance in Western Plaguelands.

Patch Notes - 05/11/2008

Adventure Band Change

On account band system abuses of people not logging on characters all the way from levels 1 to 65 and power leveling them using high end content instead of level appropriate content you will no longer gain exp from anyone who is not within ten levels of yourself in an adventure band.
This should retain the original use of the band system while weeding out those who would use it to get quick and easy level 65s.

A minor update

Linked Advisor Garathor's spawn timer to Melwin the Malicious's spawn timer. When Melwin spawns, so too will Advisor. Advisor will eventually spawn if Melwin is left alive after Advisor has been killed, but it will take far longer.
Next patch, the worn effect 'Aura of the Dreadnaught' will have 2 points of over-cap flowing thought in addition to its other effects.
Next patch, Wand of Gate's cast time will change to 20 seconds.

Forums Switch

Yesterday we upgraded and switched our forums from Simple Machines to VBulletin. Unfortunately during the otherwise fairly seamless conversion all forum passwords were corrupted.
Be sure that you click here to reset your forums password before logging on.
Other than that enjoy the new forums! We are still deciding on a final skin and working out a few bugs but when all is done (in the next day or so) the new forums should definitely trump the old.

Lil` Patch

The 'Salve of Sihala' item now drops from bosses in poearth.
The back of Surefall now sports a new newbie dungeon, intended primarily for levels 3-15.
Heavy Silk Waistlock now has a type 5 augment slot.
Ray of Light is now a lightsource.
The deepocean monsters now have an unlimited-range aggro message and a longer aggro range. This should make it easier to avoid the lethal glows they live near.

Patch!

  • The Dungeon Restoration Project has revisited the zones of Mielech C, Sorceror's Labyrinth, and Fire Grottos. Many surprises await spelunkers!
  • It is now possible to repair faction with the Plague Survivors in the plaguelands.
  • It is now possible to repair faction with the centaurs in Centaur Hills.
  • Arrowmaking Rig has been improved.
  • Fixed the identify messages of the 'unfair bargain' items for the vah quests.
  • Made most vah quest banners equippable to AMMO slot.
  • Version three of the Eyes of the Father encounter is online.
  • Extended the vah quest drop in Plane of Earth to include most mobs there, but at a far lower chance.

  • Fixed a bug with fade where the mob would break after it's primary target died.
  • Fixed bards mezzing themselves crashing the zone.
  • Changed charm pet haste. Charmed pets now receive half benefit from any haste effects cast on them, but have no cap on how much haste they can have.

Ulazzaria and Deyranni in Prison of Admyrrza have been made harder to match the rest of the progression in the zone. They were overly tuned down during the Shards of Dalaya 2.0 changes and have been in sore need of these tweaks since.

Patch Notes - 04/04/2008

An Update!

Steamfont has a new low tier raid mob! A game can never have enough Gnomish contraptions gone rogue. (As an aside expect another completely different low tier encounter in the next week or two.)
Lesser Faydark has two new quests for levels 55-65!
Kelethin has been having an ongoing makeover the last few days thanks to our local Temellin. Enjoy the new quests and polish!
The Plane of Earth S.U.B.W.A.Y (Subterranean Uber Beetles Will Assist You) system has been implemented. This should make the far side of the zone a bit less daunting while still retaining difficulty and amount of trash. Also there is now a zone in to PoEarth located in Darkwoods!
The First Ruins has been given factory code! This means that you now have a small chance to spawn named creatures when killing normal mobs around the zone. No longer will you have to wait above a spawn point gritting your teeth in the hopes of a named.
Excess experience earned when paying off the last of an experience debt no longer is eaten! Pats on the back go to Wiz on this one.
Finally I took a few minutes to outline the policies regarding 6 man raid zones.There was a tad of confusion about Cyrtho Malath and Emberflow in particular so hopefully the post clears that all up.

  • Two Tower of Tarhyl trash drops that were broken have been fixed and are working as intended. (Raid the zone and it will sound a lot less cryptic!)
  • The Shiritri deity quest should now accept your symbols of torment!

Patch-zula the mic rula

  • Refiddled with some Emberflow stuff. Be on the lookout for surprises!
  • The new tomes will no longer un-set themselves every server tick.
  • Added some npcs to Erimal.
  • Gave the relevant NPCs to the SNP int caster newbie quest set faces.
  • If Summoner Sven does not capitulate on reaching 20% health, added an option to simply hail him to get him to surrender.
  • Removed the class requisites on the Cornerstones.
  • Slightly changed the way the game checks to see if Mira has a conversation waiting. If you're stuck waiting on her to talk to someone, try going through her dialog options again.

  • The new EXP Codexes from Emberflow and other fun places will now work
  • +skill bonuses from augments will now work
Also, we have two new admins: Thinkmeats and Woldo have been officially appointed to the jobs they've already been doing for a while, which is to jointly lead the dev team. Two hurrahs for the two-headed admin giant.

Patch Notes - 02/26/2008

Lil Patch

Improved faction hit generated by killing higher-level Cult of Eternal Flame monsters. Adjusted Boomba's Key faction requirement to apprehensive.
Added *Clockwork to the game.
Adjusted the click effect on the Standard of the Vah Rehn to stack more properly with other spells. The click on the Lands of Magic item with the same name remains unchanged (IE, doesn't stack with much).
Added vah quest tree sidequests/dialog options for Sivyana and Tarhyl followers who can't obtain the drops from First Ruins. Hail the monsters you would normally kill to find them. Note that the one to locate the 'a hidden presence' will not be active until the next patch.
Added chances for the Spawn of Bloodfang and the Nazdrich nameds to drop the quest item their trash drops. They are more likely than trash mobs to drop the item, but are not guaranteed to do so.
Improved droprate of the 'chilly flint rocks' item in Everchill Caverns.

New Server!

We now officially have the new server box up and running. Once we get all the kinks out this should mean a substantial reduction in lag and zone times and a increase in general server capacity.
Be sure to tip your hat to any of our awesome hardware and web team for making this possible. Also special thanks goes to our very own GM-Xar for single handedly donating a large portion of the new hardware.

Tailoring - It's what you're wearing

  • Pantherskin Boots now exist!
  • Wyvernhide / Wyrmhide had their AC lowered and their other stats adjusted / boosted.
  • Tailors check your books as some of the basic recipe concepts (number of hides / number of ointments) for each item have been adjusted.
  • Trivials for each armor set were standardized for their respective skill ranges. This should reduce the need to make one single item an obscene number of times in certain skill ranges (See: Sharkskin Shoulderpads).

Patch Notes - 02/16/2008

Knock knock. Who's there? A lot of new content.

The Plane of Earth is now live and ready to accept raids. It ranges in difficulty from PoTorment through to beginning Sepulcher.
Emberflow Caverns, a new very-high-end xp zone in the 6-man style of cmalath or catacombs, is now live and ready to make corpses. Look for it in Fire Grottos.
A new tree of many quests, the largest in the game by an order of magnitude, is now live. It begins in humble Stinger's Bog and promises immense rewards to any player who manages to complete it all, along with plenty of good stuff for people with less time on their hands, too.
Thazeran himself is now active in the zone which bears his name.
The Eyes of the Father are no longer crossed.
Sea of Storms and Sea of Swords now have new monsters lurking in the depths.
Deepsea bow is now tradable and less bad.
A Bone Girdle has been fixed.
Ganzese the Mercenary wasn't correctly beating players as badly as he was supposed to be. This has been fixed.
The Plane of Earth, Thazeran Himself, and about 30% of Emberflow brought to you by Team Woldaff. The rest is my fault.

Patch Notes - 02/09/2008

Returned the spawn rates of nameds in First Ruins to their former glory. Increased the spawn time of 'Earthshaker' and slightly reduced the spawn rate of 'a dead machine' in the Rust. Zaela's adjustments to Prison Sanctum loot are now in-game. Added a few more stones to the small mountain of content looming just over the horizon.

Patch Notes - 01/30/2008

The empty area in the back of Fire Grottos is empty no longer, as it has been occupied by a new raid encounter intended for low-middle tier guilds. NPCs who cast complete heal now cast a slightly different spell with a significantly longer casting time, allowing more time to interrupt them. The Necromancer spell 'embedding darkness' has been upgraded. Finally, look for a whole lot more content coming soon :O

More Balance!

Next Patch:
  • -Thazeran's Tower class armor sets have lost their battle at evading the item nerfs of three months ago. Not all pieces have been struck and total mana/hp lost across an entire set is only around 50-70.
  • -Sanctum loot is getting an area wide rebalanced to make it worth while for the difficulty of the area.

Bard Armor Changes-

Bard armor instrument mods are getting a bit of an overhaul this upcoming patch. As it now stands bard Thazeran armor instrument mods are a huge leap up from their predecessors (IP puppet, CoD sword etc.) To fix this we are going to be lowering the Thaz armor mods while adding other pieces of armor with both higher and lower mods throughout the tiers. This should both balance the Thaz armor and make them less irreplaceable.

Patch Notes - 01/06/2008

Beastlord spells undergoing live testing

As some of you may have noticed, two new beastlord spells have entered the game: Harsh Winter, a level 59 spell purchasable from npcs, and Venom of the Wild, a level 64 spell which must be farmed or purchased from other players.
Venom of the Wild is a fast-acting and powerful, but inefficient, DoT spell. Harsh Winter is a mediocre direct damage spell that casts a recourse on the beastlord, improving the damage of all DoT effects that beastlord currently has running for the next three ticks.
In addition, the beastlord spell Rage of the Wild has had its duration cut in half, but has had it's damage-per-tick improvement improved. Specifically, it goes up 18 base per tick instead of 9, but lasts half as long.

As a final note, these spells are subject to change for the next few patches while they're tweaked to make sense balance-wise.

Lil Update

Necro thaz bp's effect works now.
Beastlord thaz bp's effect will be updated to what Xeldan said it would be next patch.
Beastlord test spells coming along nicely, expect to see more of them in the future.
Artificiers in Starfall are no longer aligned with Jayla, meaning that they'll stop butchering pariahs who come to them.
