The Monk, a OoS class description...
Contained here are some of my personal assumptions on monkly-ness

Monks are "special".
Monks are the '”only” class that have Feign Death as a ”ability”, Shadow Knights and Necromancers have a Feign Death Spell. Better yet, the Monks can use Feign Death instantly, this means he can still Feign Death while in motion or ducked.
Monks are the only class that is limited to only two playable races.
Monks are also one of the easiest classes to play, yet one of the hardest to play well.

Monks Pull, Monks DPS, Monks are Crowd Control...
In Shards of Dalaya Monks can do excellent DPS (thank god!) but it is not their main roll in a group. Monks pull. To be a Monk is to be a puller, and this is unarguable.
When a group has ask you to pull for them, they are, in many occasions putting their lives in your hands. If you are not a efficient puller you will eventually train your group and if not kill them put them in great danger.
This is why a monk is also crowd control. Monks do not manage the "crowd" inside the group, they do so before they even bring their targets to camp.

Rogues Evade, Monks fall down...
Until a recent patch a previous patch that punished Monks for Feigning Death after damaging a mob, the Monk feign death could be used much like the rogue's evade. If you were to pull agro off of a tank, you would simply fall down and give it back. This will now give the entire party a experience penalty. Dropping agro via Feign Death is still a very vital tactic in non-experience based groups and in my opinion is almost always preferred to death.

Monks fall down...
No good monk is afraid to die, your job is to run into situations that would kill other classes and then piss off groups of mobs that would also kill most other classes. With swift work and skillful timing... you will still die. This is a fact that as a monk you will need to accept. Doing what we do, we die.

F.A.Q. from a learned Shards of Dalaya Monk and a veteran ********* raid Monk...

  • You will want to run fast... everywhere and at all times.
  • Regeneration (and, in Shards of Dalaya, Bind Wound!) is your friend. Nothing sucks more then laying there at 3% life and having to wait for your Hit points to come back so you can safely run away.
  • Stun resist is not just for casters. If you are running from a mob that can hit you for half of your life, you would not want to get stunned on his first swing so that he can finish the job on the second.
  • Learn to enjoy dieing, you will probably do it a lot.
  • Do not neglect your Hit points. +100 Hit points = +25 Hit points healed from Mend
  • Finally practice MEND ! It is no help to you if it does not succeed.
