Deepmaster Talain assigns you the task of providing aid in the spiritual and mental welfare to a petitioner.

Note: When killing the Sludgepaw Gnolls it may be a good idea to kill them with another toon as their faction can be important later on depending on your choices. if you do kill them you can repair the faction but not killing them saves the trouble of doing so.

Find Deepmaster Talain (Southern Newport  at -156, -518  •) .

You say, 'Hail, Deepmaster Talain'

Deepmaster Talain says, 'Welcome back, initiate. How may I be of assistance?'

You say, 'Do you have another task for me?'

Deepmaster Talain says, 'I trust your dealing with the petitioner went well, initiate? Your next task, to show that you are worthy of raising in standing to become a novice, is to use the magic of the Gods in battle against those who would poison and defile the waters of Dalaya. Go to the sewers below Newport and find the filthy Sludgepaw Gnolls, and out into the vast reaches of the Western Badlands and hunt down the gnolls that are infected with Rotting Plague. Put an end to their corrupted existences and take their fangs to show me. Five of each is what I request of you.'

Gather and give Deepmaster Talain:

• Sludge Gnoll Fang x 5
• Plague Gnoll Fang x 5

Deepmaster Talain takes the gnoll fangs from <Player Name>, chanting lowly as he places each fang into a bowl of purifying water, 'You have done well, novice. I feel you have outgrown your temple shroud, and I shall give you a new one.'

Shroud of the Initiate is removed from your inventory.

You receive Shroud of the Novice from Deepmaster Talain.

Your faction standing with Church of the Deep One has gotten better!

You gain 10,000 experience!!
