Find Ned Timsis (Rivervale  at 320, -340, 3  •) .

You say, 'Hail, Ned Timsis.'
Ned Timsis Says " Greetings...friend. I couldn't help but overhear your conversations with the Captain. I might know something, but my... reputation prevents me from being taken seriously by Algo, you see. Hmm....perhaps you will take me seriously, however. If you want to know about the murders....take this. Look for the lock it fits.

You receive Small Copper Key from Ned Timsis.

Enter the house the key unlocks. (Rivervale, loc 425, -415)

Note: Micci and Dimin are both in this house. They will attack if they see you. They do not see invis.

Gather and give from the house to Captain Algo (Rivervale  at 232, -315, 3  • Near a lake, standing behind a tree) :

  • Commander's Sigil
  • Polished Light-Stealing Orb.
Captain Algo says, 'What... what in the world is... you... found these in the Commander's home? His... children. He... no. I must accept the truth. Our beloved Commander is possessed by the foe. A threat. A traitor. My... my brother. My brother is a traitor. I must ask of you... <Player Name>, I don't think I could bear to raise arms against him, but if he is indeed possessed... we likely do not have a choice. See for yourself. And do as you deem fit.'

Find Commander Dradin (Rivervale  at 90, -160, 47  • Top floor of the building in the middle of the zone - above bank) . Kill him and loot another Polished Light-Stealing Orb.

Give Polished Light-Stealing Orb to Captain Algo.

Captain Algo says, 'I... thank you. There is little else for me to say. While you dealt with this... task... I-'
a halfling defender says, 'Captain! Enemies at the wall!'
Captain Algo says, 'What?! Already?! Friend... ally... listen. I must stay here and oversee that these traitors do no more damage. They are surely planning something in concert with this attack. I beg of you... head for the wall, quickly, and add your strength to that of Captain Lirra's. The wall must be defended at all costs!'

Find Captain Lirra (Whisperling Forest  at -80, -50, 2  •) .

Note: Hailing Lirra will start an event. Waves of a fearsome shadow and a fearsome shadow spawn, and finally a shadow master. Be careful, as these mobs fear. Lirra and halfling defenders will help kill the waves, however only Lirra may be healed.

Kill a shadow master and loot Essence of the Shadow Master.

Give Essence of the Shadow Master to Captain Algo.

Captain Algo says, 'Well done, my friend! The foe is repelled at the gates... and here in the Vale, we sealed the River Gate that the foul creatures were planning to assault simultaneously, and rooted out the few remainders of the traitors within. The Vale is secure, and the enemy is denied. For your heroical service to the Vale, I grant you our most prestigious mark of honor. Bear it with pride! I... wait. I heard something.'

You receive Amulet of the Vale Hero from Captain Algo.

Captain Algo says, 'No... no... what is this?! What is this?!'
Captain Algo shouts, 'This is a dream... a nightmare... this can't be happening... they're killing them. They're killing everyone... but we stopped them... but WE DENIED THEM... but...'
Captain Algo shouts, 'No... no... I understand. This is no dream. No nightmare. But it isn't real. It's a memory. It's a mirage. Everything. It's... not alive. I'm not alive. I don't even exist anymore... I tried... I tried to change a memory. Not the present. You cannot change a memory! You cannot change the past! You cannot! YOU CANNOT!'
Ned Timsis says, 'It ends.'
