Find Historian Kelden (Southern Newport  at 364.57, -84.96, 2.19  • In Lion's Mane Inn) , with Shadowy Remnants in your inventory.

You say, 'Hail, Historian Kelden'
Historian Kelden says, 'Hmm, I sense you are haunted by something. Fear not, <Player Race> - we are all haunted by shadows of the past at some time or another in our life. I am Historian Kelden - loreseeker extraordinaire. Though you may be troubled now by what you have done recently, I may be able to help you redeem yourself. Yes, I feel a bit of redemption is in order... do you agree?'

You gain 10000 experience!!

You say, 'Perhaps, what is this redemption?'
Historian Kelden says, 'Forgive me if I prattle, <Player Race>, but I seek the truth and will achieve such knowledge at all costs. Though I am stationed in far away Newport, I wish to study the cause of the plagues which turned my brothers and sisters into the walking dead of the Plaguelands. As a young boy I heard stories of ancient Halls where citizens of Freeport were brought and tortured - injected with plagues - and what have you. In my time since, I have learned as well of a vile wretch who watches over Freeport from the desecrated temple. That is why you have come to me, <Player Race> - you were destined to uncover the past.'
You say, 'What past will I uncover?'
Historian Kelden says, 'The shadows which haunt you are those of a man of undeath. This vile lord controlled all of the dead of Freeport to do his bidding, and with his passing, I feel it is time to journey into the heart of the corrupted - the Halls of Misery. Go there, recover relics of the past - identify their origins and return them to me. I wish to learn from them, hopefully to uncover what went on within those Halls. I am unsure what exactly you should look for, though I have a feeling you will discover them on your own intuition.'

You gain 5000 experience!!

Gather and give to Historian Kelden (Southern Newport  at 364.57, -84.96, 2.19  • In Lion's Mane Inn) :

  • Rusty Jailer Shackles
  • Corroded Guard Shield
  • Blood Drenched Warden's Cloak
  • Maggot Infested Captain's Helm
Historian Kelden says, 'My word, you have returned the relics to me. These pieces are tainted beyond comprehension, <Player Name>. The poor souls which were taken into those Halls were slaughtered, all to feed the soul drinker. This cloak... it is drenched in the blood of the victims of Misery. This helm, it was worn by a once-great Captain of Freeport - turned to darkness to watch over the tortures and executions. These shackles... blood stains them, the blood of the fallen which feed the hunter. The shield, I can sense that it was used as more than something to block vollies of arrows - it was used to crush the skulls of stray citizens. These crimes cannot go unpunished, <Player Name>. You must return to the Halls, and take with you this holy water.'

You gain 20000 experience!!

You say, 'Please, give me the holy water.'
Historian Kelden says, 'Cleanse the corrupted with it, and you will free their souls from torment. Gather their souls and seek out the soul drinker... the hunter. Fell it once and for all and destroy its chalice with the purified energies of the essences you free. I feel you can also purify the relic while doing this, as well.'

You gain 5000 experience!!

You receive Blessed Holy Water x8 from Historian Kelden.

You say, 'The relic? Do you mean the pieces I gathered before?'
Historian Kelden says, 'The relic I have given back to you has ties to both the Halls and the lord which you put to rest. Place the relic into the chalice along with the essences of the souls you free, and the remnants of that very lord. It should purify the tainted relic... if so - it will be yours to keep. Just know this, <Player Name>... the Halls of Misery will be cleansed by your hand, and the shadows of the past will be washed away once and for all.'

You gain 5000 experience!!

Note: In addition to the above, Historian Keldan will return a modified, class-specific version of one of the previous quest items depending on the player's class.

You say, 'Hail, Historian Kelden'
Historian Kelden says, 'Ah, <Player Name>. How goes the fight in the halls? Once you've completed what you have set out to do, return the relic - I would love to inspect it in its original state, prior to the vile corruption taking hold.'
Historian Kelden shouts, 'Three cheers for <Player Name>! With tried determination, they have cleansed away part of the corruption which lies in the Halls of Misery. Their once-tainted helm is now purified as a shining example of hard work.'
