Find Dis, Daughter of Marlow (Plane of Nightmare  at -3572, -427  • In the river tunnel north of zone in) in the southwest corner of the maze.

You say, 'Hail, Dis, Daughter of Marlow'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow blinks a few times, as if coming out of a trance. You feel a presence in your head, and come to realize it's a voice. 'You... you are... <Player Name>?'
You say, 'Yes, my Mistress, how may I serve you?'
Again you feel more than hear the voice of Dis. 'Yes... you... you could do. One moment, as I find myself... what is this maze... this place was not here before... did I... sometimes I wish... this place were not so literal.'
You say, 'Was it not a defense against before you wake Mistress?'
Dis' confusion gives way to something close to amusement. 'No... that doesn't sound right. I think I made it as a defense... for him... perhaps...'
You say, 'Mistress, I believe you had a task that I could assist you with.'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow suddenly looks directly at you, as if just fully realizing you are physically next to her. In your mind, her voice gains strength and momentum as her gaze hardens. 'I... yes. Yes... I do. I... don't... I don't think I have ever formally met you <Player Name>. I am Dis, called the daughter of Marlow. If this is a title or a truth, even I have forgotten. But in a way it doesn't really matter... Do you not think this is strange <Player Name>?'

You say, 'Strange? That we have never formally met, but I am now to work for you?'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow physically twitches. You can not tell if that was due to annoyance or perhaps some sort of giggle. 'You serve my mother, I am sure she is aware of you. I am usually busy with my duties, and with the growing power of Before You Wake... I am usually very busy. But as of right now I... need some help. It concerns my mother.'

You say, 'Your mother? Is Mistress Marlow alright?'
You feel a mixture of hope and trepidation upon saying that name. 'Mother... I... I wish to see her again. Not just... she needs to return to her realm. Retake her duties, and... I think I may have been a disappointment to her. The way I work... it's not the same as her. She understands the mortal mind, knows how to control it, to manipulate it. I just observe it when I am bored. I think that maybe if I show her, if I could just prove that I can do things her way... well maybe she'd seek me out again.'
You say, 'Mistress, I would be happy to assist you in this task. Just tell me what needs to be done.'
You swear you see Dis smile, despite the physical impossibility of the action. 'Yes you have the right mindset. As I said, I am far more direct than my mother in matters of mortal affairs. But I can be subtle as well. We shall also strike a blow against my mothers... our enemy, Althuna. I wish to corrupt, utterly, one of Althuna's champions. To twist their beliefs, and build them into a loyal and powerful servant of Marlow. You see usually I would simply kill them, or drive them mad as they sleep. But this is a gift for my mother. This is what she would do.'
You say, 'I relish the chance Mistress, but it is certainly easier said than done.'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow slides her hand on you, pulling you a bit closer. You can feel her excitement building. 'No it will not be easy. But together it becomes simpler. Who can possibly stand up to subtle attacks in both of their realities... <Player Name> from without. Dis from within. You for the flesh, I for the mind.'
You say, 'You mean that as I work from Dalaya, you would work from their dreams?'
The excitement grows greater still. It begins to spill out into the realm, absorbing all it comes across. 'Precisely. Together we will break one of Althuna's greatest. There is one more hitch however...'
You say, 'Who is the target?'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow Dis' voice takes on a calculating tone. For a second you swear its Marlow speaking to you. 'Her name is Deirdre Grey. She is a young High Elf, married to one Dereck Grey. They are both champions of Althuna, and work in and around Kelethin, keeping it safe from harm. You may need to get creative to reach her, depending on your standing with the citizens their. She will distrust you, she may even seem ready to attack you, but she won't. Not after the dreams I give her before you arrive.'
You say, 'I must know! What will this dream be?'
A horrible grating noise comes from where Dis' mouth should be. 'My secret. Go, and pretend that you seek redemption from your oh so wicked ways. Be as sincere as you can, she'll want to believe you. Than just do what comes naturally, and above all be patient. You are a follower of Marlow, you understand that things take time. I will try to pace myself as well.'
You say, 'I go to Kelethin then! Thank you for this task Mistress.'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow suddenly has some inspiration. 'I nearly forgot. This may require a lot of... back tracking. Give me your symbol of faith, the Amulet you use to get here.'

Give Dis, Daughter of Marlow your Amulet of Marlow to receive your upgraded version.

Dis, Daughter of Marlow makes a humming noise. She then presents you with an improved amulet. 'Give this to Kelethin, the banshee I mean, or whatever form she happens to be in these days. Her tie to that area is strong, and she will send you there... or at least close... poor dear gets confused sometimes.'
You say, 'What is this hitch you mentioned earlier?'
The frustration in Dis' words is very apparent. 'The target is protected from anything more than casual dreams by Althuna. I can't bring a part of her here and construct a stronger dream. We need something more to lower her defenses. I am sadly somewhat at a loss on how to do this. We'd need to weaken her from the inside, physically I mean. That won't be easy without getting her to trust you first, but gaining that trust would be easier if I had more freedom in creating the dream to begin with.'
You say, 'Weakening from the inside... perhaps some kind of poison to sap her vitality would help?'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow is suddenly excited again. 'That's not a bad idea. Talk to the peddler where you came in. I bet he will have something that can help the cause.

Find a dreampeddler (Plane of Nightmare  •) near where you port into the maze.

You say, 'Hail, a dreampeddler'
a dreampeddler says, 'I thought I felt a disturbance near Dis. Is everything alright?'
You say, 'I am on a task from Mistress Dis. She thinks you could be of assistance.'
a dreampeddler eyes glaze over for a moment. 'Ah that's how it is. Ok I think I have an idea. I know of a potion called the Green Muse. Guaranteed to weaken someone physically, while sending them into random fits of paranoia, with some mild hallucinations. Poor sap won't know reality from fantasy after a few days on that.
You say, 'Excellent, I'll take the Green Muse and-'
a dreampeddler says, 'Not so fast, <Player Name>. It's never that simple. I haven't had to make a Green Muse in awhile. I don't have any of the ingredients on hand. I'll need you to collect them.'
You say, 'Why can it never be simple.'
a dreampeddler says, 'Ya, I know... in any case, you got a bit of work to do if you want it. I'll cut to the chase though, the potion requires three ingredients. A poison known as Savage Frenzy will weaken her, Black Blood will bind it to her, and distilled terror will make her fear being awake as much as sleep.'
You say, 'Where can I get this Savage Frenzy?'
a dreampeddler says, 'Ah, you'll need to find a rogue for that I'm afraid. It's a type of poison they can make. Hopefully you can cut a deal with one.'
You say, 'Where might one harvest Black Blood?'
a dreampeddler says, 'Black Blood courses through the veins of dark and corrupted creatures on Dalaya. It shouldn't be very hard to get.'
You say, 'Distilled Terror? Now you are just making things up!'
a dreampeddler says, 'You must not spend much time in Eldenal's then. Go to their mansion. I'm sure it'll turn up eventually.'
a dreampeddler says, 'Not quite... if I'm going to mix it here, and you want to take it back with you to Dalaya, you'll need a special vessel to carry it in. It's called a Crafted Vial of Marlow, and must be bought from someone who specializes in the trinkets and baubles of the gods. Conversely if you are a strong enough alchemist you can just mix it yourself. Then no special vial is needed at all.'

Gather:

  • Savage Frenzy
  • Black Blood
  • Distilled Terror

and craft your Green Muse either by doing it yourself via alchemy, or by obtaining a Crafted Vial of Marlow and having a dreampeddler craft it for you. Afterwards, find Deirdre Grey (Greater Faydark  at -215, -268  • Kelethin) in Kelethin.

You say, 'Hail, Deirdre Grey'
Deirdre Grey says, 'You... I think I've seen you before... <Player Name>, right? Why have you come here, I feel only darkness in your heart.'
You say, 'Don't judge me so harshly. I came seeking help.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'Really... like my drea- nevermind. My husband and I will give you the benefit of the doubt Shadowknight. But the road to redemption is difficult and tedious. Do you think you have what it takes?'
You say, 'I can take anything you can dish out.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'Dish out isn't the word I'd use. Marlow's greatest sin is her disrespect for the dead. As such your first task is quite simple. Bring to me twenty bone chips. This will prove your humility and-'
You say, 'You have got to be kidding me... bone chips? Bone chips! Are you seriously sending me to collect bone chips! Do you expect them to be of any challenge to me at all?'
Deirdre Grey glares at you. 'That's not the point. Do as I ask if you are serious about redemption. If not go on your way.'

Collect 20 Bone Chips and return them to Deirdre Grey.

Deirdre Grey says, 'Impressive <Player Name>. I know it doesn't seem much, but the path of conversion is long and difficult. You have to start small and work your way up. That's what my father always said.'

You gain 200 experience!!

You say, 'He sounds like a wise man. Would you tell me more about him?'
Deirdre Grey says, 'He really was. My father knew everything. He was pretty much all the family I had growing up. He was kind of the reason I joined up Althuna's order, even after the Rose Squadron rejected my application. He was so righteous, so confident. I really want to be like him. I miss him a lot.'
You say, 'What happened to him? Did he die?'
Deirdre Grey says, 'Yes. He died facing the evils that you, unfortunately, still represent. But we will work through that now, won't we? I have your next task. and its a difficult one.'
You say, 'Fire away, I can handle it.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'In the nearby Cauldron of Dawn, you can sometimes find, at night, a shambling abomination. He is very clever for a water logged zombie. Dereck and I have been hunting him for years. I believe that if you could find and kill it, that it would show that Althuna believes in your redemption. Go to the Cauldron, and hunt down this fiend.'

Find a shambling abomination (Cauldron of Dawn  • Wanders from the northeast corner of map south along the shore, also paths across middle island) and kill it. Loot The Shambler's Hand and return it to Deirdre Gray in Kelethin.

Deirdre Grey says, 'Praise Althuna! That shambler has been avoid me and Dereck for years. To think you would find and dispatch it so quickly. Dereck was simply wrong about you.'

You gain 10000 experience!!

You say, 'About Dereck... I don't think he likes me.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'He... he's a good man <Player Name>. He's everything I could hope for in a man. Strong, brave, wealthy. We are making a difference in the world. Together. Be it training the new recruits of Althuna, or fighting evil. He is the... he's the most important thing in my life.'
You say, 'Really? Because he seems controlling and arrogant to me.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'I... please don't say such things about him. I know he can seem mean... and arrogant... and pompous and full of himself and... I'm sorry about that outburst... listen he doesn't trust you at all. But we can prove him wrong with this next task. All you have to do is go to the Towers of Agony and-'
You say, 'Towers of Agony? That's quite a step up from the last task.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'I... I know. It was Derecks idea... I don't think you should go personally. No one would think less of you if you stopped. I'm sure I can find another task-'
You say, 'I didn't say I wouldn't do it. I told you, I'm ready for anything. What do I have to do.'
Deirdre Grey says, 'You... you are really brave <Player Name>. I've never dared enter Sivyana's domain. But she has captives there according to our reports. You need to find one, and talk to them, rescue them somehow, and bring back proof of your deed. Please, no one should be tortured like that.'
You say, 'There are many forms of torture Deirdre. And many ways one can be trapped. Think about that while I'm gone.'
Deirdre Grey looks at you, startled and shaken by your words.

Find a A tormented victim (Towers of Agony  at 230, 820  •) in Towers of Agony.

You say, 'Hail, a tormented victim'
a tormented victim moans. 'Are... are you here to rescue me?
You say, 'That's honestly not my style. I will put you out of your misery, however.'
a tormented victim says, 'To me you are still an angel... end it.'
You say, 'Prepare yourself!'
All of a sudden a chill covers the usually steamy environment. The victim looks at you in confusion, and begins convulsing... all of a sudden...

A chill touched victim (Towers of Agony  • Next to a tormented victim) spawns. Bring some help and kill it.

a chill touched victim shouts, 'Frigid life. Can't feel anything. You. Must stop you. Your fault. You'll end us all.'

Loot Shackles of Torment.

Return to Deirdre Grey and give her the Shackles of Torment.

Deirdre Grey smiles at you. 'You really are something. I can't believe you freed the prisoner and brought back their shackle, and barely have a scratch on you. You really are amazing.'

You gain 20000 experience!!

Deirdre Grey says, '<Player Name>! Thank Althuna you are here! The Kelethin scouts have reported something terrible! Somehow a minion of the plague king Gradalsh has reached Greater Faydark! I don't know how its possible, and I can't find Dereck anywhere! You're the only one who can help me and... I don't think I can do it on my own. Please! Come with me!'
You say, 'Of course, where was this thing spotted?'
Deirdre Grey says, 'Quickly follow me! Keep up, I can't do this on my own! Be ready to jump!'

a plague-wracked terror (Southern Badlands  at -5450, -2650  • In a walled-in house) spawns underneath Kelethin. Bring a group and kill it.

As the creature dies, it explodes violently, releasing putrid gases. You quickly avert your face, but Deirdre is not so lucky...
Deirdre Grey moans in pain. '<Player Name>... I can barely see you... I... I think its over for me... unless... Please I need... a cure to this... do you have anything... something to... to save my life.... I don't have long...

Give Deirdre Grey the Green Muse.

Deirdre Grey injests the potion, then coughs violently, and spasms a bit. Eventually she calms down. 'That... was a close one <Player Name>... I'm so thankful you were here to help me... I... I'm very tired. I can get back on my own... don't worry about me.'

Return to Dis, Daughter of Marlow.

Dis, Daughter of Marlow is already active and waiting. '<Player Name>! That really went better than I could have hoped! I had to call in a few favors from Gradalsh to make it happen, but it was worth it. Deirdre is so weak on the inside... I wonder if all mortals are like this. Oh the things I am telling her <Player Name>... did she tell you she is having marital problems? You should use that for the next step.'
You say, 'What is the next step?'
Dis, Daughter of Marlow shakes her head. 'No first things first. You need to be rewarded. Give me your augment, the one Phago gave you earlier. That was the augment of a novice, but you have proven yourself far stronger than that.'

Trade her your Servant's Badge of Dis.

You receive Champion's Badge of Dis from Dis, Daughter of Marlow.

You gain 75000 experience!!
